$368.10 with free express postage might be better if you can't/dont want to manhandle a dryer

    • talk about express postage, ordered late last night, arrived this morning at 8am

  • I know even when discounted it's a lot more, but the Asko heat pump is still $899 at appliances online (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/419001). Our older model is 8 years old now, used almost daily, and still going strong. These condenser driers suck the water out of the wet clothes and either collect it in a reservoir or you run a pipe to the laundry sink and it drains there. A lot more energy efficient, and no steamy laundry. If you use a drier a lot it is definitely worth considering getting one of these. If you only use a drier once a week, then yeah the standard jobs are fine (and the Electrolux is good - I got one for my parents and they reckon it's been great).

    • Yeah i use mine once a week or so for towels and sheets only. Already have an existing point/exit/ hole to outside in my laundry for the vent so the moisture isnt an issue. Also yes, that one is more then double the cost haha. Still, each option is good for someone!

    • Thought of getting this but the reviews on this model are horrendous. You must be lucky!

      • The Electrolux? Again, I don't use it but my parents are very happy with it. They probably only use it once a week though if that.

The Asko, well with that I do have a different (much older) model but I wouldn't think there should be an issue with the newer version. There is one really important thing to know about the condenser models and that is - along with the normal filter in the door - the condenser unit below needs to be taken out and cleared every now and then. Depending on use, and the sort of clothes being dried, maybe once every 6 to 12 months. It's a minor hassle to do, but if you don't then it will take longer (and longer) to dry things. Ideally you also arrange to have it drain into the laundry sink - otherwise you'll be continually emptying the water manually or it will not dry. Had a quick look at the reviews for the current Asko on productreview and it's worth reading the reviews themselves rather than relying on the star rating. A few people were complaining about it taking too long to dry - my bet is the condenser is clogged and/or maybe the water needs emptying. One person gave the dryer a 1 star review because it was delivered with the door on the wrong side to what they wanted, then they had some other issues that sounded like the machine being installed incorrectly or possibly damaged during delivery. Or just maybe it was a lemon. It happens (they later say they bought Miele instead and are happy with them - personally we had a horrible experience with three different top of the range Miele products and associated support and would never ever buy Miele again, so it's all luck of the draw I guess). One person gave it three stars and complained of a screeching noise with the drier out of warranty - they have a two year warranty and you can get an extension to that for a fairly small cost - but anyhow Asko repaired their machine at no cost. Another person gave it two stars because it was making a screeching noise - and that was also repaired. I dunno, from reading the reviews I reckon that it is a good machine, and if it goes wrong Asko seem to stand behind their products….. Personally I would not hesitate to buy an Asko product. :-)

        • Yes I was referring to the asko on product review. People complaining about screeching noises and drying quality. I'd normally take reviews with a grain of salt but this one has so many bad reviews it makes you think twice. Plus they're offloading this at $900, from $2k. Makes you wonder if there's something wrong

          • @padman: Again, I suspect a lot of the drying quality complaints are due to people coming from normal electric dryers and not knowing how to properly install & maintain a condenser/heat pump dryer - and the screeching noise is something that can happen to any dryer if there is an issue with the bearings. Actually, it almost certainly will happen eventually - it just depends how often you use the dryer and if you overload it regularly. I had it happen with our (pre Asko) Fisher & Paykel after about one year (and they told us that 'normal use' was once a week! With three kids under the age of three our dryer was frequently being used twice a day….). If it's a big concern, even though Asko seem pretty responsive I'd just get the extended warranty - as I recall you don't have to buy it right away, you just need to sign up whilst it's still in the standard warranty. Maybe buy using a credit card that also extends the warranty.

As for price - I reckon it's simply being replaced by the newer model so it's a 'run out' special. When I bought ours it was half price, and for the same reason - it was being replaced by this current version.
