What Frame for Prescription Glasses for Pre-Schooler ?

How can I go about shopping for frame and lens for a 4 year old who likes to pull apart spectacles ?

You had helped the same little fella via this post https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/327174 - where someone suggested rubber framed sunnies and he's been a happy camper ever since.

Now, I need to get him prescription lens and I fear at the escalating costs this is going to bring.
Any suggestions for how one could go about getting either a heap of spectacles to keep replacing broken ones ? Or ?
No private health cover if it matters.

Cheers,

  • DO you know what type of lens he will be getting? Those $2 shops sell a cheap prescription lens, but you need to obviously know what lens to get.

    • Thanks for replying. What do you mean by what type of lens ? I have a prescription in front of me - what am I looking for ?
Its for astigmatism, if that helps.

Check with your local council as some offer free services for kids. If you’re in Melbourne then Monash health has heaps of services as long as you have a health care card

We've found the thicker plastic type frames to be pretty good (never tried the thin wire frames). Our son got glasses for astigmatism when he was 4 1/2. We've lost count how many times he's thrown them across the room. Only broken one pair in 4 years. We do get a new pair every single year through our health insurance (no gap) so we pretty much always have a spare now.
Good luck in finding something suitable.
