I just received an email from them and I think that's it's not too bad.
However I commit that I don't really understand about technology so please to accept my apologize if it's not really a bargain.

Isn't the price sweet spot at 2Tb right now for 3.5" and 1 Tb for 2.5"?

DSE have a Seagate 2TB external HD for $119 (same bytes per buck ratio).

if you're in sydney, fluidtek have them for $100

  • If it was USB3, then it would have been a good price..

    • They have the USB 3 version for $10 more.

Nah, that's a good price. However you'll end up with too many hard drives if you buy such a small one ;)

    • Such a small one ;)

lol! Since when is 1.5TB classified as "such a small one" >.<

      • Since the "standard" became 2TB at the same cost per GB as a 1 TB drive. :-)

Since 6 months from now. :D

  • Is this one of those portable hard drives? Or is the size big?

    • +1

Big: 3.5 inch so you need external power as well.

  • hey what is better this drive or samsung story usb 3.0?

    • IF you have USB 3.0 sockets on your computer, then the Samsung is heaps faster. All new computers will have USB 3.0, so if you want something somewhat futureproof, then you should get that interface.

If you only even have used USB 2.0 and won't be tranferring lots of big files, then anything will be OK. But even a 1.5TB drive will take an eternity to fill at USB 2.0 speeds. Last weekend I copies about 600GB of games via USB 2 and it happens at about 25-30MB/sec…. about 400 minutes or 6.7 hours. At that rate, it'd take you almost a day to fill a 1.5TB drive.

    • Samsung Story Station with USB 3.0 is up to 10x faster than the older WD 1.5 with usb 2.0. So as long as your pc has USB 3 than get the samsung.

    • Sorry guys I thought this was usb 3.0 drive..

Guess it is not as good value..

what I meant was which is better samsung story usb 3.0 or wd usb 3.0 3.5" external drive

note: yes I got usb 3 port.

  • I have this exact model, for those asking on reliability, I have had it ~12 months and never had a problem, even though it's USB 2, it transfers fast enough if you are not in a hurry.

IMHO good equipment at a great price.

    • You are just good luck. I had this model July last year and the power adapter died within 3 months. WD replaced it (mailed from Singapore), but the waiting time is over 1 month.
And the performance, it's slower than seagate 2.5" (500GB model).

      • You are lucky they mailed out the adapter because when my adapter broke they said it was not covered under warranty and I would have to pay extra for a new adapter.

  • do these work on ps3's

    • Yes, formatted to fat32
