[Negotiated Deal] Telstra Casual Unlimited Broadband Plan + Google Home Mini + Telstra TV $89/Month & No Cancellation Fees

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Just my 2nd post so go easy.. :)
I have seen a similar offer but managed to get the Telstra TV2 (added in as well via chat) + No Installation Fees($90 waived) + No casual fee ($240 waived). Sounded too good for me to jump from my Optus Plan(ridiculous speeds of 3-4mbps!)
Here goes the details:
$89/mth
Plan Details - Unlimited Bundle
Price per month & total minimum cost $89 per month
• with Telstra TV 2 $0 and Google Home Mini
Plan and Call Inclusions Inclusions
• Unlimited monthly data allowance
• Unlimited Local, National, and Mobile calls to standard numbers in Australia
• Family Calls Benefit (responsible use policy applies)
Charges apply for usage above these allowances, or usage not included in the plan

Just the goodies are worth it in my humble opinion to switch.. and if not satisfied, we can simply switch back without and plan cancellation fees ;)

I got similar deal without google home mini, but they included Foxtel cable and free upgrade to IQ3. Paying $99 per month.

Via chat or phone? Flexing those muscles!

      • Email, after making a complaint via the Telstra website after they increased my fees about 2 years after my contract finished.
I basically told them that after being a loyal customer for x years, why did they increase my internet cost when everyone else was reducing them.

        • +1

it happened to me recently, and I was on the phone with this stupid lady for like 30 minutes going in circle, basically she is just saying its their right to do (as the contract has expired with the discount so now the plan is back to normal price) so even though shes got the power to do something she won't. And she was also saying I should've known that my plan is expiring, and that it's my fault I didn't realise after 2 years lol what a load BS. I was like Telstra is literally offering the same service now for 89 dollars now and you want me to pay 120 for it?

Anyway long story short, I saw your post so I just made a complaint online and they adjusted my bill so it's $99 dollars then I sign up to the plan OP had for $89

    • Since when, all new Foxtel installs are on Sat

      • Since when

        early this year.

Had to sign up for a new 2 year contract though… My contract will be over by the time we have NBN avail.

        • +3

Are you sure you'll have NBN in 2 years? My install date has been pushed the last two years. At least now build has commenced, but I am still being told that June 2019 is the earliest i'll get it!

  • +9

Too expensive for 50mbps speed. 100mbps would be ok

    • +1

      I get 54-56mpbs usually.

    • on a similar plan via jb hifi a few months back. didn't get the mini but got 2 ttv2's and 100/40 speed bump after asking for it.

      • Can you confirm if that was on cable? Telstra reps kept saying that they could give me the speed bump for a "discount" if I had cable but not with the NBN.

Finally got a rep that caved in and said that they could "consider" giving me the boost pack for free after the service was connected and they could see what the top speed was for my are (eyeroll).

Do you think it'd be worth trying with JB hifi?

    • +1

Genuinely curious where I can get 100mbps and all those extras for that price. Thanks.

I'm currently on woefully-slow ADSL2. With landline rental, unlimited data and calls I'm paying ~$70 a month.

The NBN is still a long time off in my area.

      • +1

You think that you can somehow get NBN speeds, without NBN?

        • I have no idea. That's why I'm asking.

@virtualds said this Telstra plan was expensive and alluded to faster alternatives. @BlitzR mentioned 100Mbps with Optus but again, no mention of technologies.

So I'm just asking what these alternatives are.

If higher speeds are only available on NBN, then I can see why people without NBN in their area are keen to move from ADSL to this Telstra deal. 2-3Mbps to 56Mbps plus all those extra perks for ~$19 extra a month is great value in my case.

Edit: A quick Google says Optus cable is "technically" capable of 100Mbps with its Speed Boost Max pack. But the price is not competitive.

@surethang: if you can get cable in your area

talk to live chat to get a deal

im on a plan from 12 months ago

$80 unlimited (payg calls cause i dont use landline)

then got $20 discount for having a mobile with them

            so $60/m

Then i negotiated a speed pack 100mbit for free. forgot how but i share 2 bills on 1 account, and the old one was grandfathered at 60/m unlimited and 100mbit

            free install, free modem

this was also during their promo period which got me $500 starting credit.

        • +3

          Yes. Fixed wireless, like Uniti.

Was totally frustrated a couple of years ago when no major provider could connect internet to my rental unit. Only TPG could finally do so. And then I suffered one year of 0.5 Mbps "speeds". Yes. that was not a typo. Exchange was 7 kms away as the crow files, so there was no solution in sight.

Until I explored fixed wireless options, moved to Uniti unlimited $69 per month. Above 50 Mbps irrespective of the time of the day… and they are about to introduce 100 Mbps for ~$79 per month.

NBN is moot, as far as I'm concerned.

          • -2

@Irate Monk: Just got off live chat with Telstra. She told me 5G with Telstra in 2020 will get you 1Gb/s. Not sure I'll get NBN when it comes to my area!

            • -1

              @shagaroo: That's true.

5G mobile data will make all the current common broadband speeds a joke. And also mak NBN obsolete, except in regional areas.

But the early 5G adopters will pay through the nose for those bragging rights. And, with 4K video streaming -which is the rage now - giving way to 8K in the not-so-distant-future, all that blistering speeds won't matter if not on a fixed-fee, unlimited 5G data subscription.

5G will be mainstream in 2020. But agreeing on a xx$/GB plan will be bank breaking even in 2022.

Unless the NBN or such terrestrial technology scales up to deliver 5G-lke speeds. But even then, fixed wireless could theoretically marry both these together.

  • How do you waive the fees?

    • +4

give the live chat a go :)

      • +1

Did you get the speed boost to 100/40 too?

Edit: just realised this isn't an nbn plan. Thanks.

        • +1

lol, I just realised the same because of your comment! I was able to get the same offer as the OP but with Foxtel now on the NBN. Absolutely no luck on the speed boost though.

  • 2 year contract ?

    • +2

      nope.. month-month

  • +5

I managed to get this a couple of weeks back on livechat, excluding the telstra TV, but with the 100/40 speed tier for $89 p.m.

    • No NBN roll out in my area yet :(

      • Same… They're now estimating 2020…

        • Lol.. same here bro!
Sounds insane that we have to wait so long to get NBN :(

          • +3

            @Siddo90: I prefer cable anyway…

            • +4

@jv: My expected roll-out is 2020 but I am unable to get cable as we are in a complex with 4 townhouses. Apparently 3 is the max, neighbors on all 3 sides have cable though :( I am stuck dling BF5 at 500kb/s

              • +1

                @knobbs: That sucks…

You'd be better off using wireless…

            • @jv: Me too. However I don't understand how I can only get Optus Cable at my residence. But so many people get the choice of either. Is it if the cable rollout was originally optus you can only use optus? But with Telstra they have to share their infrastructure with any other cable provider?

              • @serpserpserp: @serpserpserp You have to use the company that laid the cable, optus or telstra (or iinet in geelong i think)

                • @bobzor: many areas have optus and telstra cable - but a lot have just 1

              • @serpserpserp:

But with Telstra they have to share their infrastructure with any other cable provider?

Not for cable, just with POTS…

            • @jv: Same, I got a similar deal to you Ultimate cable with unlimited downloads for $79 a month on a 24mth plan. When the telstra tech came to look at the phone line he said not to move to nbn when it comes available as they are having many problems with the nbn over the cable line.

We have been told 3 times now nbn is available in our area and within a couple of months they will say its not available again.

              • @rewstar: There was some stall in HFC rollout, think it's going again though.

Personally I've not had that many issues. Got bumped up to 100/40 plan after complained about speeds.

        • +2

That's why they were saying NBN is the investment our grandkids will thanks us for…Only they'll be able to enjoy it

    • Does Telstra tv include stan and Netflix subscription or only app access?

      • +3

subscription not included, but the apps are there…

also apps for all the freeview, on demand channels.

        (also PLEX client)

Telstra TV is pretty good hardware…

        • +1

Plus the ability to use phone as a remote :D

          • +3

@Siddo90: Yep, useful when the kids hide the remote.

        • What does Telstra TV have over standard free to air channels or is it just apps that any old android box can do?

    • Worth it for that speed

    • Casual plan or 24 month contract?

  • +2

No immunity from being slammed for 2nd posts. This is a decent deal though =)

    • +1

      I'm a common man.
      I see a good deal —> I buy —> I spread the word :P

  • Just went to the website. Telstra TV not included in $89/month deal. For Telstra TV, it’s $99/month.

    • +2

      It isn't included..
But the live chat will help you get it :)

  • Wow, better than previous offer, now has Telstra TV in it. What happens if we just have it for a month? Can we keep the modem, telstra tv and ghm?

    • -1

      I wonder the same thing.
i took the month-month plan.. so I can basically pocket all the goodies if I decide to jump the wagon xD

  • Damn.. literally signed up for the "movers" offer a week ago!

  • I manage to get Optus 50 @ $67.5/p.m (10%) off. Is that a worth while offer?

    • How?

      • the 10% off is a student discount i believe, but can probably get it through live chat. usually there is a $10 discount for having your mobile w/ optus (making $75 down to $65)

        • I'm on a older plan that is just $60 month to month for unlimited cable, but not at 100mbps.

          • @serpserpserp: i managed to get that deal (assuming $20 off cause of linked mobile) and free 100mbps and free $500 credit and free modem + install

            • @furythree: how'd you get the free speed boost and credit etc?

I think the free install and modem are a given. Got that too.

              • @serpserpserp: i complained to live chat about them messing with my grandfathered plan

  • cant see where it mentions tv2 inthe offer, do you have to ask for it?

    • As per previous replies, live chat.

  • Thanks, got it via Live Chat.

  • What’s the upload like?

    • -1

telstra cable upload is 5mbps (the only downside to NBN)

  • +1

Hi everyone, I have my NBN installed early this year from optus and due to optus force every cable customer to NBN by the date optus given not government , and saying will cut off all the phone line and internet. I have called and complained several times and the case has been forwarded to Optus customer relationship department.
After negotiation, currently i pay $70 per month at top speed with a 2 years renewed contract.
I have been very happy with the internet speed and the price. Try your luck!
I think it is nice to share as a ozbargainer. :)

    • When you say top speed what speed is that? I was in the same boat but only got 40mbps download and that’s only for 6 months

      • 100/50 I believe and also at that time have a Optus tv channel and sport come with the new contract.

  • +1

So Telstra TV is just a "media centre", doesn't include Foxtel Now or anything? If you have a smart TV with apps, it's not really worth it?

    • +1

It is essentially the Telstra version of the Vodafone box. But it is a good box, on par with the likes on a xiaomi mi box, but a big step down from a NVIDIA Shield etc.

  • Does the telstra TV comes with browser? and it has in-app like netflix and youtube?

  • Just tried via live chat but no luck. Initially told me she can only give me what the website says, but at the end got to reducing the set up fee to $99 and waive the casual fee.

    • +1

these bargains that not everyone can get are weird, should be forums maybe

      • Agreed. Variable "Live Chat" deals are often mirages.

    • That's literally the initial offer.

      • +1

Yeah, she said she would lose her job if she gave me that deal. Worth noting that response time were so slow, the whole chat took 50mins

  • +1

    Aussie broadband or Telstra?

    • for NBN? ABB

    • +1

Leaving Telstra on the 10th for Aussie (Rep didn't even care I was leaving). Hoping their reputation stand up.

    • +1

I'm with mate NBN atm, and I must say, so impressed with the speed and uptime, tried to get on ABB but they weren't accepting orders at the time, but still works out cheaper and solid service. People seems to think customer service is a big deal, but I've never had to send 1 ticket/email to them, "It just works"™

    • DCSI

  • I wouldn't care for the Telstra TV & Google Home Mini. I would have switched if Telstra offered a fast unlimited Broadband Internet for a reasonable price in my area. I am currently on a TPG unlimited broadband Internet plan (NBN is expected in my area some time early next year, but they kept changing dates all the time so I can't rely on that), and although I have had no issues with connection and TPG in general, the speed isn't that good.

  • Live Chat can't apply Telstra TV onto Casual citing "The system is not going to take waiving off the device on a casual plan."

    • +2

LiveCHat caved in, and managed to get the same deal as OP

      • What did you say? The person I was chatting with said she’d lose her job if she gave me that deal

        • Just saying I am only looking at the above deal - they said TTV2 only for 24 mths plan. I said thats fine. I will stick to existing ISP and thanking her for the time. She asked me to wait, and went talk to supervisor :)

          • @bluebluebird: Haha that’s good. Glad someone actually manages to get the deal.
I got the Telstra tv easy, but she won’t drop the connection fee.

            • @Prince K: Which is the connection fees? $240?

              • @bluebluebird: $99 New customer connection fee (which is applicable to 24months contract on their website) but waive the casual plan fee.

                • @Prince K: But the $99 is only for 24 mths plan, and not applicable at all for the Casual as it is included in the $240 casual fee which is being waived right for new customer.

                  • @bluebluebird: Oh, I’m looking at adsl and the plan is $89 for 24months contract.
So the actual negotiating part is the Telstra tv? As in there’s already a promotion to waive the casual fee?

                    • @Prince K: That's right. But I could not get the Foxtel Now added LOL

                      • @bluebluebird: Thanks for letting me know. I’m live chatting again, This time got the set up and casual plan fee waived, but won’t give the Telstra tv or google home mini.

Nope, won’t budge and said goodnight hahaha

Oh you won’t believe this, third time, the person actually said yes to waiving fee and add home mini and Telstra tv. But he insisted new connections can’t be done via chat and I have to call

                        • +1

@Prince K: Try to get a welcome credit when you call!

  • Does telstra tv have pvr function? How does it compare to fetch TV?
