  • you can't pay for apple hardware in the apple store using itunes credit can you?

    • +2

Just for apps, iTunes content, Apple Music, etc. not hardware

      • damn and you cant use this credit to buy apple store gift cards either.

    • +2

You can use it to buy Apple hardware - just not the more expensive barcoded items.
I'm forever losing then buying bloody Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapters! Simply go in store and use Apple Store App on iPhone.
Scan item, comes off iTunes balance, walk out thinking your about to be tackled for not paying…

      • i wonder how security deals with that. unless they have RFID in packaging or something.

      • +1

That's a nice loophole! Didn't know you could do that with the lower value items.

Can someone who buys these more than I do tell me if 15% is good. I remember that 25% used to be more common but I haven’t seen any of those for some time

    • Years ago we used to have buy one get one free deals for these iTunes cards. Haven't seen them for years. We even had OfficeWorks price beat a buy one get one free Harvey Norman deal once.
Google Play credits via Telstra Prepaid trick is long gone as well.

I buy these a lot. 15% is my threshold to stock up if I need them. I haven’t done better than 20% and that was via a price beat guarantee. Woollies and Coles will randomly have 15% off too and it won’t always be chainwide.

    • 15% off is the standard discount now, at coles, woolies, officeworks etcetera.

With some of the stores, I believe you can buy itunes cards using discounted gift cards, so you get an effective discount of greater than 15%. AFAICT, it's not possible to get discounted gift cards that work at Officeworks.

    • Costco does 20.02% off once every few months, but is only good value if you already have a membership for other reasons. Don't buy a membership just for iTunes cards.

    • Yep 15% is the new 25%

Just in time for me to pay the ATO before they throw me in prison!

    • Hahaha, the scams people will fall for.

    • -2

Always the same old boring paying ATO tax joke.
Apple probably let us pay our tax with iTunes gift cards before they allow us to buy Apple hardware in the Apple stores.

What do people use these gift cards mostly for now? From what I understand they don't work for Netflix subscriptions anymore

    • My kids school requires every student to have an ipad. Use the gift cards to buy apps for their schooling.

      V Bucks!

I still pay for my Netflix via Apple Itunes, but maybe I'm just grandfathered in.

    • Apple Music on top of student discount

    • Still works on my Netflix subscription.

    • Still works for me? Or do you mean does not work for new subscribers?

      • Yup they changed it so that any new subscribers will no longer be able to pay via iTunes giftcards. If you were already on it previously you should still be able to.

        • Ah that sucks. Guess I won't try the VPN trick in case that doesn't work after awhile.

    • I am unfortunately addicted to Transformers Earth Wars so the $600 worth I got from Costco has already been used up.

  • Do they have Officeworks gifct card?

  • Saw the same at WWS as well.

The best discount i got was when dick smith had a sale on them at 20% off and then you could use a "MATE10" code i think it was to take $10 off your purchase with no minimum spend. In the end buying $20 iTunes card for $6 . Haven't seen a better deal since.

  • They offer 15% off as regular

  • I missed out! Back to regular pricing now :(

    • Yeah. Would not have minded another $200 or so worth.
