Amazon is amazing… And I'm also broke because of it

  • +16

Great prices, but please buy from Target when possible. They deserve your money for this deal and Amazon will be very happy to sell at RRP if Target loses sales and decides to stop supplying cheap games in the future.

    • +4

Would buy from Target but they don't have much stock and you'll need to run from store to store to pick up all of them….

    • +15

You're right, the companies that originally offer the discount should be praised. It's great that Amazon are price matching all of these sales, but it's also good to buy from the store that originally offers the deal. For some people it's much easier to just order for delivery from Amazon.

Kmart has already got rid of their whole entertainment section because of this, you never know how long it is until target is next.

      • +1

Yup, not even a token $29, just matching to try and take business. Good however for those who can't get stock, but in the long term if there's no one willing to offer sales Amazon ain't going to drop their price.

      • +1

The difference here is that the Target items are clearance prices. You can tell this because the item can no longer be found through a search on the website directly and you need to find the direct link on Google (that and the clearance sticker I saw on Lego Worlds earlier in store).

        • Yeah that's fair enough, and I know it's hard to get stock in a lot of cases! It's just the general principle, I hope Amazon actually pushes their own discounts in the future on games, they did a great job on the accessories during Black Friday by pushing down the controllers to $45.

EB games needs to follow too, Amazon is certainly helping creating a more competitive environment!

        • +1

Regardless, I still think it's a good idea to purchase at the original store when possible. Target might decide not to stock the next Fire Emblem and we may be paying $89 everywhere on release date with no hope for Target clearance prices like these. Enough Xenoblade and Warriors sales now might encourage them to stock it.

      • -1

no keep it in stock at the cheap price so more people can price match at EB/JB for as long as possible. If its sold out, they generally will stop price matching and more people miss out

      • Well in terms of gaming, I don’t think it’s going to matter in the long run. Games will go digital, we’re already seeing physical sales go down in UK and I suspect Australia too. Kmart got rid of their gaming section because the same people that buy games at heavy discounts didn’t buy their discount (read: highly profitable) clothes. I bet most just walk out with the game only. I can see Target and Big W doing the same soon just like Kmart, Myer and David Jones.

As for Amazon, if you want Amazon to take over the world, keep shopping there exclusively, or distribute your funds and shop around. Amazon are going to consistently beat local prices because they’re here to overtake the competition. Their takeover of the market is probably inevitable.

      • +1

According to a Nintendo rep I asked a few months back when I stumbled into one (if you don't know, they have people who go around to stores and check up on their Nintendo stock and shit, making sure they have the right games, prices, all that) as far as she knew, Nintendo stopped shipping games to K-Mart because they kept breaking street dates at numerous stores and wouldn't do anything to stop it. I do remember all my K-Mart's clearing their Wii U games and consoles not tooooo long before they straight up stopped doing games all together, could be that Nintendo pulled out and then K-Mart just went (profanity) it, or maybe the other guys also pulled out for similar reasons?

Or maybe she was full of shit, who knows, but that's what she told me.

    • +1

I would if they had stock in any of the 20 targets around me, this seems just clearance, target let their games sit on shelves for so long

    • +1

This is Amazon's goal. They can afford to lose money on sold products if in the long term it reduces their competitors. When they have hardly any competitors and sales they need to compete with they just keep the prices up.

  • +4

Fantastic price for Xenoblade Chronicles 2. I think this is the all-time lowest for the game (it regularly goes for ~$70 on Amazon). Nabbed one. Thanks OP!

    • +1

      Decent game?

      • +1

        If you like the style.
Xenoblade 1 considered one of the greatest.
        Second. Not far behind

        • never played Xenoblade 1. Thoroughly Enjoyed Zelda BOTW - do I need a back story before try Xenoblade 2?

          • @timetoquit: Not really. It's very much its own story

          • @timetoquit: There is a little bit at the end that story-wise connects to Xenoblade 1 but the game can be understood perfectly without it.

        • Xenoblade 1 is the best however it was on the Wii at first 3DS version is great

      • Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a beautiful game, I combination of world design, gameplay, story telling and music come together in one of my favourite JRPGs.

It is well worth the $30. My only criticisms:

Anime tropes can be a bit much at times, ie the design of pyra and some awkward interactions. But overall the characters remain likeable and you’ll stay invested in their plights.

The tutorial. The game is always introducing new stuff, even at 30 odd hours, but it’s never overwhelming.

My experience with the game was I bought it day one and played a few hours, I liked the characters but hated the gameplay. It all felt meh. So I put it down. 2 months later I came across a reddit thread praising the game so much that I put it back in my switch and tried again. I remember the exact moment, 8 hrs in… the combat clicked, the story clicked, and I felt emotionally invested in the characters. I proceeded to finish the game that week and I am pleased that I did. The game is worth the time sink and gives you some things to think about, not so much as Nier:Automata does but still a lot.

If you enjoy anime or JRPGs, or just want to try something new this is a game you do not want to pass up.

Ps play docked as it gives the best visually fidelity!

        • +1

I had a different experience with the game but overall it was still positive. Just a few things which bugged me:

The VAs scottish/irish accent really started to get annoying. Kind of like hearing a heavy aussie accent in an American movie.
Because of that, I switched to Japanese voice and immediately noticed the translations were really liberal lol.
Tora's grandpa is a huge pervert but that was translated away as being a weirdo.
Then the Blushy-crushy heart-to-heart event was a whole translation of moe. It was so incredibly cringey reading the english text translation vs hearing what the Japanese VAs were saying.

Then the stutter-step auto-attack cancelling felt incredibly weird, like it was an unintended combat mechanic. the combos feel really nice though when you manage to pull them off.

God, I wanna be the guy Amazon employs solely to check OzB all the time for cheap game deals to match.

    • OzBargain gimp

    • I wouldn't mind being paid by my workplace to check OzBargain too.

      • +1

that fact you are here during the day suggests you are :)

  • +1

    Grabbed Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

A note on Fire Emblem Warriors: it is a niche game being a crossover between the Dynasty Warrior series and the Fire Emblem series. To really enjoy this game, it helps to be a fan of both series. Koei Tecmo and Intelligent Systems have done a pretty good crossover with this title - taking what I think to be the best elements from both games and combining it into a single game (hack n slash + some strategic elements). Granted, it no longer feels as much like a Dynasty Warriors game, nor a Fire Emblem game - it's an interesting combination of the two.

  • So glad Amazon price matched, no stock anywhere near me

  • they didn't price match sonic forces :(

    • I would have, if it was in stock

      • You’re associated?

        • They*

          My bad.

          • +3

@RichardL: Nice try Rich - you've been exposed you corporate slimeball!

  • +1

Is Xenoblade Chronicles 2 a button masher JRPG? Enjoying Octopath Traveller now and just Final Fantasy in general (other platforms) but unsure about XC2

    • Sorry wrong comment.

      • +1

Edit: Replied to wrong comment, without refreshing :)

    • Definitely better than the last few final fantasys and not a button masher.

    • +1

How is Octopath? is it similar to any of FF installment?

hoping to see a sale on Octopath, so I can get one

      • Octopath is great. Quite different to any FF. Turn based battle and much more like a classic JRPG with its job / class system.

      • +1

Also vouch that Octopath is a great game.

      • Very very similar to Bravely Default if you've played it, except the graphics, combat and basically everything enhanced 10x better.

    • +2

Nope, XC2 is a deeply complex battle system and has probably the steepest learning curve for battle mechanics around due to it not being explained clearly and the way it's designed. It can look simple of the surface with the auto attack and low difficulty early game but it has a lot of mechanics underneath that will have to be used mid to late and post game.

      • +1

I can't stress this enough. Probably took me 60-80 hours to finally use all the mechanics correctly e.g. Orbs or Character&Weapon differences

        • Admittedly it's a bit hard to understand the mechanics until you have a full party and reasonable set of blades anyway.

  • Thank you OP, got a month of prime membership (also 50% off from amex offer) because Xmas is around the corner

    Oh and XC2 as well.

  • LEGO Worlds gone . It's now $53.13

  • expected delivery 20-28 dec ?
    *for Xenoblade.

    • Amazon AU has exhausted the stock they currently have, so it currently on Back-Order.

Usually dispatched within 2 to 3 weeks.

      • I currently on Prime trial.

Would I need to pay for delivery once trial runs out and they havent fulfilled my order?

Not that its really important cos price is great even with shipping

        • +1

If you place an order now, that will be the price you'll be charged when stock arrives.

  • I bought xenoblade 2 from amazon recently at $60, any chance they would 'refund' the difference if i ask? I wont bother returning and re-buying tho

    • Same, I bought it during black Friday thinking it would be the best price. I guess it's worth contacting them.

      • +1

Contacted them but xenoblade 2 went out of stock during the chat. So nothing happened, not sure if I would've been successful it was still in stock though. Xenoblade for $60 is still a good price and apparently the game is worth every cent based on reviews. Atleast i tried !

        • +1

haha same! it all went downhill once i couldnt provide a link. no point dwelling on it.

        • Same happened during my chat, however my chat rep gave me a $20 promotional credit to compensate, I might have used up my Amazon luck for the next year of getting free stuff.

    • There is a chance, probably not a huge one depending on what "recently" is but worth a shot anyway. Just use their chat system.

  • +1
  • Will jbhifi or eb games price match?

    • In the Target Deal Post, a few user manage to price match Fire Emblem at EB Games.

      So it's worth a try.

    • Just got rejected at my local JBHIFI, tried to price match Fire Emblem.

      • Unless they’re making a loss, I don’t see why they’re refusing. Just losing a potential sale.

        • Just call up a few different stores until someone bites.

        • Yeah, I'm honestly fed up with them at this point. They refuse to price match any online store, and it seems stock for the Cloud Alpha has magically appeared after I was told they would be no longer selling them.

      • If you're in nsw, try the Strand

  • Hm, looks like XC is back to $68? Cannot find the $30 anymore.

    • -1

      Appears to be OOS now.

  • Seems the only one they didn't match the price of was ARMS. Interesting

  • -1

XC2 on back order right? I only want this.

    • Was on Back-Order, now Out of Stock.

  • How can back order be out of stock if its not in stock in first place lol.
And it’s only 300+ clicks target has 1500 clicks. Think it might be updated again back in stock as this is usually the case with Amazon.

    • +1

All games were in stock at the time of posting. Once current stock has been exhausted, item moves to back-order. I'm assuming Back-Order has a limit, which resulted in the item not being fulfilled by Amazon AU anymore.

  • +3

Darn, really sad to have missed out on Xenoblade.

  • -1

If it is out of stock why does it still allow me to add to my cart? Clearly they still have stock. Like you said it’s set a quantity, hope amazon changes this soon.

Wanted XC2 and FEW as well.

    • +1

The game that you're adding to cart is sold through a Third Party Seller (ie. Mighty Ape, The Gamesmen, etc) and not through Amazon AU directly.

      For Xenoblade

Ships from and sold by Mighty Ape.

      For Fire Emblem

Ships from and sold by The Gamesmen.

      • Thanks for clearing that up. Just hope we get more stock and if we do chances it won’t last more than 30mins.

  • +1

nice for xenoblade! give us a good deal on octopath!

    • +1

      I second this one

  • +2

Doh. I was checking for this right up until lunch, then I get back and I missed it. Would have happily gone for all 3.

  • +1

Added to cart but too slow to checkout. Doh.

  • [Edit] Delete comment

  • Caught wind of this late but decided to try my luck at Target Roselands at around 7pm even though their site said no stock. Found 2 staring at me on the shelf as soon as I got to the games section. Was so close to buying it from JB the on the weekend.

Edit: this is regarding Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

    • Just XC2 or FE as well? Might swing by if both games are available.

      • +1

I had a look for all the games listed as reduced but only saw XC2.

    • I rang roselands. They checked but no stock.

  • +1

I think after Christmas Target are going to stop stocking Switch stuff.

    • Why do you say that?

      • Seem to be running out all Switch stuff. I wouldn't be surprised if they end up ditching entertainment like Kmart.

  • Went to EB MC got both :D

    • Was that today? If so, how'd you do it?

      • +1

Yesterday, I showed them Target's pricing as Amazon is out of stock.
