One of the best things about this is FreeSync

    🙂

    • +1

Freesync lets me play 4k ultra games on my V56 without feeling sluggish at <60fps

      <3

(eg Rise of the Tomb Raider)

  • I'd recommend anyone buying this to consider buying an aftermarket GPU cooler too.

    • Are they easy to fit and approx cost for a good one?

      • First of all I think you should use the card as is, don't buy anything until you know that it certainly bothers you enough.
Well I think the hardest part would be applying all the tiny heatsinks for the ram and stuff. You'd have to make sure the heatsink was the right size for each chip. After that applying the cooler itself would be just like applying a normal GPU cooler I guess.
Generally you should look at arctic cooling, something like this :
        https://www.newegg.com/global/au-en/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186052&Description=arctic%20cooling&cm_re=arctic_cooling--35-186-052--Product
        - $55
        https://www.newegg.com/global/au-en/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186096&Description=gpu%20cooler&cm_re=gpu_cooler--35-186-096--Product
        - $65
        https://www.newegg.com/global/au-en/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186097&Description=gpu%20cooler&cm_re=gpu_cooler--35-186-097--Product
        - $81

  • Wow. that is a great price. Not sure about warranty for Amazon US items. Free Sync is definitely a plus.
Approx $565 after cashback ( which takes couple of months).
Only downside I see is the blower addition taken AMD cards emit lot of heat. EVGA 2070 was Approx 140 extra and not sure if worth the extra dollar spent.

    • Couple of months for what? Shopback cashback?

    • Winter is coming, the blower is an advantage.

      • Summers just started….

        • Exactly, winter is coming.

It appears that RX Vega stock on the way out and doesn't look like there's going to be any stock replenishment. Amazon USA is mostly out of stock and so is Newegg..

If you really, really want a Vega card you should probably buy this now rather than wait.

but if you're not hung up on Freesync you should probably buy a Nvidia card. The vega 64 throws power efficiency out the window for raw performance and it heats up my PC so much the side panel of my Fractal design case is about 50 degrees celsius.

    • O dear. I take it that along with heat, PC is drawing more power as well.
Getting too confused with card pricing now and cancelled my EVGA 2070 black purchase from Amazon for approx 762 ( $708 after cashback) and waiting for new AMD cards or better pricing.

    • Have you considered buying aftermarket coolers like the ones I listed above?

      • Mine is a Gigabyte Windforce model which I paid $639 for, so adding an extra $100 or so for a Raijintek Morpheus2 cooler pretty much throws the 'price/value' ratio out the window.

The cooling on it is okay. However, the heat output is just as fierce. It matters not how much fan or aluminium fins the card has, all the heat generated accumulates in the case so you'll have to also upgrade case cooling, or switch to a mesh style case.

        • Oh I assumed you had the stock blower one. Strange that even the windforce one gets so hot.

        • Why AMD Vega stock is getting no more new stock. Is it due to the new cards?

@EnALup: I'm guessing it's because the profit margins are declining on these items. People paid lots of money during the crypto boom, but now crypto is over so the prices of Vega sharply decreased.

AMD Vega uses HBM2 stacked memory which is pretty expensive so the cost of these cards remained high while the market prices continue to slide.

Hwnexus talked about the price of HBM memory in this article.

TLDR - Vega cards — too damn expensive to keep making. Other cards which use GDDR5 memory is much cheaper and more profitable.

            • @scrimshaw: Thanks. That makes sense.
Performance of these are below 2070. Taken heat and power consumption, I think 2070 would be a good upgrade. Only downside being missing on Freesync.

        • Yep, puts it into RTX 2070 territory, plus you get a cooler running unit with a lot lower power usage.

    • No luck with undervolting?

  • Anyone who buys a cheap Vega card make sure you look into undervolting it. Will take about 30s to do. Very easy. Very safe. Use a bit less power and run cooler but you'll actually get more performance

    • is undervolting the card possible on Macs? I intending on using this in an TB3 enclosure on my mac book pro.

      • No idea sorry but in windows it's done in the driver software and I can't see why that would be any different in MacOS

      • Buy a real computer.

Thanks Op, missed out on the cheap ebay vega 56 deals because they were 'out of stock', so this is good timing.

Also note that the above is the OC model.

it only costs this much courtesy of the lib import tax - which is why they still cost so much here….market protections in technology are anti competitive.

Just noticed that if you buy from the US store you get a coupon for 3 games (Tom Clancy’s The Division® 2, Resident Evil™ 2, Devil May Cry™ 5). Costs a bit more (US$457.22 - mentions it just before you commit to the order) but might be worth while for some.

I've contacted Amazon US (seller) via amazon.com.au to see if we will get the coupon here.

  • its out of stock now but newegg has a similar deal for a sapphire vega 64 $600 free shipping.
    https://www.newegg.com/global/au-en/Product/Product.aspx?Ite…

I bought one during the black friday sales when i thought it was on sale, a bit annoyed the price is still the same. But I did get an extra $30 off from the coupon.

    • How is warranty from newegg.
      Can Vouch for amazon.

      • dunno, first time buying from them

    • that's excl GST. GST inclusive price is $658.90.

Also that's for the non OC model unlike what was being offered by Amazon.

      • +2

i swear it was 550 ex gst a couple of hours ago

        • +1

          Indeed it was.

        • I checked when you posted and it was $658 as well after taxes. There are 2 prices shown in AU$

        • Sorry, someone's having fun on the other end toying with us :)

update 23:34 back to GST-Inclusive Price of AUD$598.40 for anyone who missed out on the MSI deal
