TechFast RTX 2080 PC Q/A (Review/ Complaint?)

Solved: Rep got back to me and happily sent me replacement parts for the psu and case.

So I bought this pc on the 15/11/18 (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/416590) And I have just received it yesterday. I am writing this forum in regards to others who have also purchase or have received their PC, on regards to the quality of the pc. My PC came in dented, missing screws, gpu bent/ falling out and was not even connected propperly on the 6 pin and pcie bracket. I replaced the psu as it was absolute garbage, Blew up while i was stress testing the psu.

Here are the pictures I took of the PC for reference (https://imgur.com/a/vayXR0T)

PC Parts

CPU: Ryzen 2600

MB: Asrock A320M-HDV

Ram: Team Group 1x8gb ddr4 2400mhz

GPU: Galax RTX 2080 8gb EX-1 OC One click (http://www.galax.com/en/graphics-card/20-series/galax-geforc…)

PSU: Allied generic 550w (Absolute garbage, blew up in other test rig powering a hd7970, imagaine running a rtx 2080 on this!)

SSD: Allied 120gb (Generic, will post up some benchmarks later)

Case: Tech Fast tempered glass rgb gamer case (Missing 2 of the tempered glass screws and dent on top), Also as a 240mm magnetic fan filter on top which is a plus

Items may vary depending on stock, these are the parts i got, so assume what i say as a reference only.

I will be adding more information to this post after I run a few more benchmarks, but i am more curious to see what others got and are currently running

Edit: I essentially took the cpu and gpu out of the systen and placed it in my main rig, I have replaced it with a ryzen 1600 and a hd 7970 (undervolted).

The system works fine now, managed to overclock the 2600 on my main system to 4ghz at 1.3v to 1.35v

Gpu is overclocked to 2ghz on the core and 7650 on the memory sustainable.

Havnt got out to testing the ssd. Will do so afternoon.

Psu is garbage, throw it out, blew up while stress testing the other rig, (undervolted Hd 7970, thankfully didnt take any other components away with it) Woldnt want to run a rtx 2080 on this.

I did send them a ebay message yesterday, but you guys are right, definitely should of contacted the rep here, will do.

I was not sure of it was damaged in shipping, the box showed no signs of any damage and the pc was packaged pretty well, looks like it was dropped when it was in the building period.

Otherwise, fantastic value, definitely will buy again, support is good too (through ozbargain) will probably just buy in parts next time though.

If you guys want to request and questions on the pc I will do my best to answer them, still testing out the pc though, and dam eveything looks nice :)

Uh, why were you stress-testing a PC that had a bent GPU, instead of just sending it straight back for a replacement?

    • I took the gpu out and placed it in my main rig, and it seem to ran fine

      • +2

No, my point though is that the PC was obviously banged up in shipping, so I don't know why you didn't just send it back direct.

Whatever put that huge dent in the PC could've messed with a lot of other components too, whether it's apparent now or becomes obvious months later.

Edit: Thanks for going to the effort of documenting it though - having benchmarks for the parts (especially the generics) will probably be helpful for others. Would be better if it wasn't a banged up unit though, because I assume others will receive non-dented ones haha.

        • +2

After waiting for around 2 weeks, I was getting impatient, I was wondering if anyone else received something of similar to mine, everything seems to work fine though, Im just going to buy the pc in parts next time, professionally built my arse!

Also wanted to post benchmarks/ component list for those who are after, checking out difference etc.

          • +1

@Bargain4Days: Eh, at that price I'd be happy all the parts work. Plus - from other threads they're decent with returns if there are any issues.

You get what you pay for - you're definitely not paying enough for sleeved cables and tiptop cable management. I do wish they went with a better PSU by default though.

          • @Bargain4Days: Thanks for letting us know what you got, i hope i am more lucky with my system and sorry to hear you had a bad experience with yours.

  • +1

well really the cpu and gfx is worth the price alone, everything else is a bonus that can be striped and sold like i was planing on doing.

  • Great info. I wouldnt have even bothered using the power supply it came with, the risk is too high. How are the components of the test rig besides the power supply ?

    • +1

Honestly, Everything else is fine, psu is garbage, case is what you pay for (Magnetic dust filters on top, room for 4 x 120mm fans, RGB front/ Tempered glass if thats your thing

Just check for missing screws, I can only see 1 ssd mount at the back which is currently being used, A ssd or hdd can be mounted on the front of the case, where the front intake fan is

      • Hi mate - quick question from me, i just bought one of these rigs too.

I just can't seem to figure out where to mount additional harddrives? The case specs online say it should have 2 2.5" and 2 3.5" bays, one of them i can see on the back, but I'm just a bit confused.

Any help would be really appreciated!

        • Yeah, the hdd or the ssd mount is at the front of the case, it replaces the fan mount at the front though

  • does the dent look cool?

    • depends on how you see it

  • Did Auspost go through your parcel? Mine was shipped out to a somewhat remote place and nothing (to the best of my knowledge) had been damaged, everything was plugged in right, cables well managed etc.

PSU definitely sounds right though. Needa get around to replacing mine.

    • +1

Was through startrack, next day delivery

      • How could I forget they used star track, lol. Wasn't a fan of their tracking (site sucks on mobile)

Not sure what was up then. My system came very intact.

        PC https://imgur.com/a/CPnnTdo

The back looks a bit gross, but that's more the fault of a non modular mustard and ketchup power supply. Besides that, all working and not damaged/unplugged.

The dent's definitely from shipping… it's just the wiring stuff you were talking about thst baffles me.

        • Is your red fan noisy? Because my pc only had 1 fan at the top and it's very noisy.

          • @MagicMushroom: Think so, not sure if it's the one at the rear or top.

Unfortunately the red one doesn't appear to show in the bios, so can't tell…may have to unplug it and see.

            • +1

@N1NJ4W4RR10R: I used my fingers to stop each fan. One at the top and the power supply was the culprit.

        • +2

Is that an asus rog strix?

          • @OD1NNN: Yeah. Was the r3 + 570 deal. Won't lie when I say I jumped to buy that one. A big fan of their design.

And…I mean, they're practical as well. But who cared about that ;)

        • +1

Lucky boy got an ASUS GPU?

        • +1

Looks like you got a very good built one and i hope i am as lucky as you :D

    • Hi, while gaming did you touch the tempered glass around where the GPU is? Mine gets really hot and i just wanted to know if i should be worried since its glass.

      • Haven't done that, and the games I've been able to play wouldn't get the GPU hot enough to warm it up.

Weird the glass would get hot though.

Did you have 2 fans? Rear on exhaust with top on intake?

        • I got two on top and by rear do u mean in bottom of case? in that case no there are none on the bottom. or if rear means the back top then yes so that would mean top area has 3 fans. Well mine is the RTX 2080 and its much bigger than your 1060 and so i think it being closer to the glass has an much more impact on it than say a smaller GPU would. Anyways that was my only concern and everything else with i am very happy i bought this.

          • +1

@firsttimeuser7: Ah! That makes sense, I'd imagine the 2080 would be pushing a lot of extra heat as well.

Good to hear everything's going well with it. Still can't believe how good these systems are price wise.

          • +1

@firsttimeuser7: Wow been a month since i got my PC, :D

            • +1

              @firsttimeuser7: Been about 3 since I got mine…very happy I finally got a PC.

Beyond the peripherals being better IMO, I've found that higher frame rates make it easier for me to play games (eyes would get very irritated playing without glasses when I was playing on console)

Hope you've been enjoying yours as much as I've been enjoying mine.

  • I will let you know what mine is like after i get it hopefully by end of this week.

  • +4

Did you contact them first before posting here. Does the dent look like it was damaged in shipping. Should of gave them a chance to respond to any issues. I'm not defending them, but if they didn't solve the issue then yes by all means post here.

  • Don't go shitting on a company if you haven't contacted them yet. Even if the product is mediocre there's no need to destroy a company's sustainability

    • +3

Yep he definitely should have contacted them first but sadly hes just had bad luck in terms of damage from delivery.

      • +1

I agree, but it's so disingenuous to do this crap.

        • Not necessarily. It's logical.

I've just always preferred talking to the company first. Mistakes happen…plus, a DOA system is always a good excuse to get a review on the companies customer service. Can be very important.

          • -4

@N1NJ4W4RR10R: Gets unhappy with item > takes to express frustrations socially versus gets unhappy > contacts company is logical? What planet do you live on

            • @[Deactivated]: Item cane in damaged with packaging seemingly intact. OP might've associated that with the general "pre-builts suck" stuff (not helped by Walmarts new pcs).

It's not the best approach, I don't know why op didn't contact Techfast, but it's not disingenuous.

      • +2

It doesn;t look like damage from delivery? Isn't the box in good shape, and the pics show issues that were not caused by a drop but by a lack of care?

        • +5

The intention wasnt to shitpost, but rather to beware others those who bought the pc to check and see if it delivered safe, from the comments so far, It looks like I was the unlucky one so far which is good for u XD

P.S But your right should of contacted the rep here rather than ebay

          • @Bargain4Days: I am sure we are grateful for you to send us what your system looked like out of the box and that is a very good thing to do for this community that are either looking to buy from techfast or waiting on their orders so they know what to expect kind of. Hopefully not everyone gets unlucky as you did tho but it seems you alrdy had backup system in place, something that I don't have since it's the first ever pc I bought.

            • +2

@firsttimeuser7: Dont be scared by my post, seems like im the only unlucky one here, otherwise its the best value/ performing pc you can get, the parts are decent quality besides the garbage psu (I REPEAT THROW THE PSU OUT). Support is quick and fast through rep here, not ebay.

Would definitely buy again, although in parts Next time

              • @Bargain4Days: My version has the 750w version and rep confirmed it to be mostly by alot thermaltake litepower. I assume this is good enough to keep my Pc going at a safe pace until I upgrade hopefully middle of next year or end when 1 year warranty ends. Yes support is great here and in ebay too but I think here's definitely faster.

                • @firsttimeuser7: Dam, not the best psu, but way better than mine at least!!!

You would still get individual warranty, or just acl it

                  • @Bargain4Days: Once i start upgrading I can actually have two computers at the end so yeh this is a great deal indeed and can give extra one to family member or friend etc at a small price depending on who tho

                    • +1

@firsttimeuser7: Yeah, thats what i did, popped the 2600 and the rtx 2080 out and place it in my main rig, gave the pc and added a 1600 along with a hd 7970 3gb to my little brother, he is 9 and all he does is play fortnite… Dont think he minds the dent, at least it has rgb?

                      • @Bargain4Days: Oh indeed rgb increases performance by a fair bit or so they say hehe. It's great for him to play fortnite then I assume.

                        • @firsttimeuser7: Better than my rig at his age at least, i remember rocking a pentium with a ATI card with 512mb vram!!! And worst of all, No RGB.

                          • @Bargain4Days: I had nothing at that age.. except the outside world which was a great time

                            • +1

                              @firsttimeuser7: DS ftw.

If there's one thing I'd praise Techfast for, it's making cheap, mostly greqt quality PCs at a reasonable price. Helped me get into PC gaming.

                  • @Bargain4Days: Reading your thread and damn I'm glad I purchased the upgrade for 750w psu (which I insisted and rep confirmed it'd be thermaltake lite).
At least it's a brand I've heard before even if it's not as good as evga nor XFX

          • -1

@Bargain4Days: Probably not a bad idea. But they treated you like a piece of shit by sending the monstrosity, and you are under no obligations, they are.

Stuff them for trying to rip you off. Hopefully this thread will get them to lift their game and not try to pass off this poor work on other customers.

            Well done.

            • +1

@Major Mess: I dont think it was their intention to rip me off, highly doubt either as Im their most annoying and difficult customer so far XD. Anyways their ebay support was super quick >12 hours and i got a reply stating that they could send me a replacement psu and case or send the pc back to them and the could swap it out. So I opted for the replacement so i could just replace it myself.

              • @Bargain4Days: So since they are sending a new psu, is it possible you just received a badly manufactured one and meaning the other allied ones are better?

  • Must have been assembled by one of the street kids that had to employ to deal with the back log.

  • Looks like a full tower?

    • +1

Mid tower, case is very small, will send measurements later

      • gotcha. thanks. looks like i might need to purchase another casing.

aside, any experience with phantek cases? am look at enthoo pro.

        • Love the phantek cases, the only issue is that there are really no suppliers of the case here in australia, you would have to buy via pccasegear and pick it up, or pay their extortion prices to ship it to you. Overwise, online retailer such as kogan may have it

  • Jesus thats a hell of a dint in the top

    • +1

Yeah, funny thing was the box looked fine, and the packaging was decent, so it must of been damaged when it was being built

      • The missing screws are certainly a concern since they would still be in the box even if the box was damaged…

        • Yeah, it is worrisome, although I ended up taking the 2 back panels screws off to use for the front, it sort of worked, but the screws were a a tad short, so dont move the pc around while the glass is on because its barely holding it in

          • @Bargain4Days: THe missing screws? Did you see the back plate? I doubt any of this was damage due to delivery. There seems to be people operating under the wishful thinking method.

Someone mentioned a bent video card(curved)? How was that due to shipment? That would be more due to the manufacturing. I sold motherboards in the mid nineties that were the cheapest thing around and they looked they came off a roll.

Anyway the ludicrous claims of shipping did it. Blame Aust Post! Blame Aust Post, make no sense. It may be that this seller normally does a better job? They have said they have employed new people? Undoubtedly relatives of others that work at the store? That is more likely to be the reason, unless you believe in magic metal bending pixies that live in your underpants drawer.

            • @Major Mess: I was more thinking someone took a rummage inside, sounds like some other stories I've heard. But packing didn't seemed to be opened.

Sounds like it could've been a new person? Drop it and not want to own up.

Regardless, I highly doubt this was malicious or anything like that. Definitely sounds like OP got unlucky as hell. To bad they tore it apart before RMAing :/

              • +1

@N1NJ4W4RR10R: True haha, I mostly tore it apart to confirm all the components model, my lost your gain i guess?

                • @Bargain4Days: Can't change the past. Don't dwell on it to much :P

                • +1

@Bargain4Days: Oh, didnt you get a sheet of paper or something that says all the components your particular pc came with?

                  • @firsttimeuser7: Must be something new they're doing… unless I missed that, will recheck.

I do have the oapers for the majority of parts though.

                  • +1

@firsttimeuser7: What? Never got this, all I got was a tax invoice stating i spent 1500 on the pc, woth the single item being the complete pc

                    • @Bargain4Days: Oh i thought that's something they would do since every system comes with a different configuration.. well guess not then. I'll just have to look through manually when i get mine which is sadly next week since it got delayed again but only the i7 8700 version since they were harder to get. Hopefully it comes earlier than later in the week. I wonder if others have gotten theirs too i would like to know what their experience was.

              • @N1NJ4W4RR10R: Look at the pics, there are assembly issues.

  • PSU would be rubbish but even those 7970s were pretty thirsty cards for their time.

    • Yes you are right, now imagine running a rtx 2080, a $1000 card, with a psu like that which blew on the first day

      • No denying it's a cheap PSU, but even a reputable brand like your Corsair, Silverstone, Antec, etc (even with gold rating and not the generic models) could blow or not function correctly early on. Granted it's probably much rarer, but given the condition your specific machine arrived in it's not overly surprising.

There's shipping insurance and manufacuterer's warranties for good reasons, sometimes things don't go quite as planned and as the buyer you have peace of mind and the ability to get working products.

Hopefully you got what you wanted from the system and don't get mistreated in future should anything else break down. Best of luck.

        • so what PSU would you recommend for the RTX 2080 since I just bought a unit from techfast as well?

          • +1

@jianh: 500-550w or higher, minimum bronze rated would be ideal.
Quality brands like Corsair, CoolerMaster, Silverstone, etc.
Yes, 500-550w is enough for that configuration - you can get higher if you want, but it is kind of "waste of money".

Everyone you ask will tell you they don't trust X brand because it died on them after Y amount of time, but faults occur with any brand. All the brands I mentioned are sold by reputable retailers and you won't have an issue claiming warranty as long as you didn't stuff it up yourself somehow.

  • The issue began when you decided to buy pre built

    • True. With pre-builts, the anomolies are the whole system rather than 1 part.

    • +4

It's cheaper to buy these prebuilts from Techfast rather buy the parts separate it seems, atleast for the 2080 deals

      • -3

        OK.

    • -1

The issue began when it was badly assembled, and became conflated by the seller/rep making excuses.

  • when you say the pc was "fantastic value" what is this in relation to? as in, it was cheaper buying it as a pre-made bundle, than to buy the all the parts yourself and assemble?

    • Parts to price I'd assume.

    • +2

The gpu is alone worth 1100, cpu is 200 and ram is 50, essentially i get a free, mb, case, psu, ssd.

      • -2

stock cpu cooler. mobo doesnt allow overclocking. not much ram. small case with only 1 fan… but each to their own.

        • +2

Your welcome to find me cheaper parts :)

          • -5

@Bargain4Days: My instinct would be to go the gumtree way and save a tonne of money and go for a 1080ti build maybe even more powerful cpu.

Obviously still a high gamble but I feel like gumtree users take care of their pc's better than prebuilt builders who just need to churn out numbers and quotas rather than keep one pc alive so they can resell it.

Imho I would never go prebuilt unless I absolutely had to.. the gamble imho is just too high.. yes more so than gumtree or secondhand ebay buys.

But those are just my two cents take it as you will.

I value the gpu around $900 max since I have seen 1080ti's for $700 on gumtree before still half decent condition.

Ultimately it comes down to what you feel works better for you and your situation.

I hope the gamble and choice/decision paid off.

I got my pc built part by part by a builder from gumtree in another state.

I just fed him the deals and transferred him the money for each part then waited for him to deliver the final product once it was all getting built, tested and done.

Imho I don't trust mass quota builders for pc stuff.

Rather go the one man business shop guy but it could have easily gone sideways anytime if the dude decided to shaft me.

Thankfully I got a good one also made a new friend while we were communicating and messaging which was awesome.

            • +4

@AlienC: I'm sorry but this is madness. In absolutely zero out of an infinite number of parallel universes is it better to be paying cash to a random guy on gumtree, than to buy from a company via eBay paying through PayPal.

              As a buyer:

              eBay > Gumtree

              PayPal > cash

              Actual business > random stranger.

              • @HighAndDry: Well it worked out for me.. No dramas yet.. Can't really say much more than that

    • +1

The GPU was the selling point.

  • +1

cant expect to have quality when you cheaped out on the pc and you know it

    • +1

You can expect a certain level of competence under Australian trade practice law. Anyway, hopefully it is all being sorted.

  • In this post are people referring to the Techfast website (techfast.com.au) or their eBay store? I know ultimately it doesn’t matter but I’m just curious.
