Anki Vector Robot $299 + Delivery or Free C&C ($284 with Wicked Wednesday Code) @ JB Hi-Fi

200

Hi guys, long time lurker, first-time poster. I saw the email this morning regarding $150 discount on the Anki Vector, then also noticed it wasn't listed on the Wicked Wednesday Post either, so I figured I'd share this. I've been looking at one of these to mess around with since they were announced on Kickstarter, as the coding library is pretty fleshed out and I want something on the desk at work to troll some of my co-workers with. Unfortunately, the early bird didn't ship outside of US, and the RRP was quite high in Australia. Only until Amazon USA started shipping to AU could you get them at around this price. I figured for a local warranty and easy collection that if you'd been considering one, this would be a good price.

Standard price is $449, cheapest I can find for Au stock online is $430 from Hobby Warehouse.

Edit - Amazon also has it for $299 with free delivery, plus 5% cash rewards. Thanks to MJ1

For the price I'd think it would be bigger….

    • Bigger isn't always better, at least that's what I tell the ladies :>

The price is mostly for the range of sensors/Qualcomm processor/IPS display and for the development tools and software. I realise this thing probably isn't for everyone though.

Looks like Amazon has matched. Cashback programs provide the extra ~5% discount

Nice find! Amazon Australia has been doing a great job lately at price matching / offering some great deals. A far cry from their initial mediocre launch.

  • So… Basically Google home or Alexa, but hobbled and on wheels?

    • Out of the box, yeah… Probably more of a toy than anything useful, as it kind of has a personality. But there's an SDK for it that's in Alpha ATM, and if it's anything like the Cosmo SDK you get direct access to the microphone arrays, cameras, sensors, etc. So becomes a fun little developers toy. Plus it's just super adorable :D

      • Gotcha, I get it as a fancy furby, that makes sense. It's just weird that so much focus goes into the voice interaction. That part seems to be a waste of effort given its a pretty saturated space.

        The innards look fancy:)

  • i saw this. its it worth it? anyone have this?

Any retailer with Afterpay that sells this at this price?

    • Yes please, or Afterpay. Let us know. I'll be in it.

    Does it vacuum?

  • Sounds fun but a lot of money for something I have no use for

Not speaking like a true ozbargainer. Buy first find use for it after.

      • You don't need it to be useful. You don't even need shelf space for it. Just sit it in the unused pile so you can lament in thread comments when it becomes cheaper and you haven't opened yours yet

  • What Wicked Wednesday Code?

  • Can it get me a beer from the fridge???

I own one and left a review. They said it doesn't meet their guidelines and didn't publish it, so here it is:

A robot vacuum is much better value

To be honest, the Vector is extremely underwhelming. I've used it perhaps 3 times in the time I have owned it (pre-order, about 2 months). For $450 you can get a Xaiomi Robot Vacuum and still have $150 to spare. A much better purchase.
