    No MFi = No deal

  • I've been looking for an angled lightning cable for use with Carplay so the cable doesn't show too much. Does anyone know any MFi angled cables, or if this one would at least work with Carplay?

    • +3

UGreen does make MFi Angled Lightning Cables, not sure about other manufacturers
They are available on Gearbest $16 + GST + $25 shipping, eBay $19.40 + GST, and maybe Aliexpress.

Feel free to get the Baseus cable and see if it works with your Carplay system and if not, request a refund through Amazon.

      • Thanks MM, I'll take the plunge and be the tester for others to know :) $4.19 isn't too bad to try.
        I'll report back later.

Just an update, cable seems sturdy and works with CarPlay so quite happy to use this.
Even if an update later on stops it from working, for a few bucks I’m happy.

  • Question - any idea on finding a good quality (not apple branded) USB-C to Lightning cable which supports PD charging for my iphone 8+?

    • +1

The answer is NO, Not yet. Apple only recently (December 2018) started licensing 3rd party manufacturers to make MFi USB-C to Lightning cables so that these cables can be rocognised by iOS devices as genuine to allow USB PD fast charging.
I've seen pictures of prototypes assembled, tested and getting ready for certification, they could come out as early as Feb 2019?

Currently, the closest thing to Apple genuine is the Kogan ones at slight discount.

  • Are u related to montymelb?

    • Maybe location wise related, but otherwise no :)
