Bose SoundLink Micro Bluetooth Speaker $71.52 Delivered @ Microsoft eBay

100
PMICRO20

Good price for a good speaker. It puts out a surprising amount of bass for its size, and is water-resistant as well. Those of you with discounted eBay gift cards can get it for even less.

Amazon matched the price too.

  • Does anyone know if this is water proof ?

    • From the Amazon website: "Waterproof speaker from the Inside out (Ipx7 rating), with soft, rugged exterior, resists dents, cracks and scratches"
Tempted to get one but not sure if I need it… listen to my wallet or the OzBargainer in me…

i bought a wonderboom from Myer ebay with 20% and that was $79.20. I believe it will have a much better quality sound and punchy bass than this little Bose would.

    • You'd be surprised… I have one of the Bose and a Megaboom 3 and the Bose holds up surprisingly well. I would say the only immediate draw for the Bose is that it doesn't have 360° sound, it's only out one side, but it still sounds incredible for the size and price. But then again I'm not an audiophile by any means.

      • i would like to experinece it. I got into audio quite a bit in the last years and know that driver size is very important for the bass to be punchy and deep. With small drivers it cant reach those low levels of under 90Hz. I just feel that bose has over compensation on tremble instead of bass so every sound on the lower frequencies on musical instruments all sound similar out of a bose speaker.
I used to think Bose was the brand to go for speakers but then you realise its just like Beats, which is mostly marketing and fashion statement, while under delivering in sound quality.

Thats just my thoughts based on experimenting with brands such as KEF, NAD, Martin Logan, and the consumer mass market speakers such as JBL, UE, Harman Kardon.

That is true, but this is where Bose is different. Cabinet design (e.g. Helmholtz resonators/bass reflex) can extend low-end response, and Bose has lots of experience with that. Portable Bose speakers often have deeper and fuller lows compared to other similarly-sized speakers.

I work with audio as part of my job and while Bose is not my go-to brand for full-sized speakers, I can understand why the Bose sound appeals to many people. The portable Bose speakers I've tried handle lows noticeably better than many others. As to which is better, it really depends on personal preference and the type of music the person likes. I had the SoundLink Mini and the UE Boom at one stage and much preferred the fuller-bodied sound of the SoundLink Mini, although the UE Boom had noticeably better highs. The thinness of the UE Boom just didn't do it for me, so I stuck with the SLM.

I've got the SoundLink Micro and the Sony SRS-X11 at the moment. They're not too far apart in terms of size, but the SoundLink sounds far better. You'd expect that of course, at about double the price. :)

I think Bose and Beats are a little different. Whilst both are expensive brands, I think Bose is more understated than Beats, with much more elegant designs that don't scream "LOOK AT THESE COLORFUL THINGS ON MY HEAD!!!!".

          • @eug: Thanks for your knowledge input. I'll give it a try and buy one just to see if I was wrong. I would actually be happy of this one sounds good. And I'll compare to the wonderboom that I bought 2 days ago.
I saw some reviews that the wonderboom has much more powerful and deeper bass than the soundlink micro.

I haven't tried the Wonderboom so that could very well be the case. I prefer the slimmer design of the SoundLink Micro in any case.

I'm sure you can compare the two speakers side by side at JB without buying either first. Seeing that the Wonderboom is larger, I would expect it to sound better.

            • @Bruno28: Bruno28, how did you go?

I'm curious to see what your thoughts were.

Been looking at maybe getting a Bluetooth speaker but noticed the UE lower end range don't seem to produce much bass.

              • @TieNN89: It still hasn't arrived. Waiting for it :)

        • Are you telling me that headphones with even smaller drivers can't reach those low levels under 90Hz?

          • @[Deactivated]: They probably can, but remember the headphone is right on your ear, so there is no need to move much air while for a speaker it need to have power to move the air molecules at a distance. I think it has a relationship between power and frequency.
The smaller the driver and the further the distance from the listening source, the more difficult it becomes to produce a powerful bass.
