ABOUT THIS GAME

The post-soviet country of Chernarus is struck by an unknown virus, turning the majority population into frenzied infected. Fighting over resources has bred a hostile mentality among survivors, driving what’s left of humanity to collapse. You are one of the few immune to the virus - how far will you go to survive?

This is DayZ, this is your story.

DayZ is an unforgiving, authentic, open world sandbox online game where each one of 60 players on a server follows a single goal - to survive as long as they can, by all means necessary. There are no superficial tips, waypoints, built-in tutorials or help given to you. Every decision matters - with no save games, and no extra lives, every mistake can be lethal. If you fail, you lose everything and start over.

Scavenging for supplies and roaming the open world never feels safe in DayZ, as you never know what's behind the next corner. Hostile player interactions, or simply just struggling through severe weather can easily turn into intense, nerve-racking moments where you experience very real emotions. On the other hand, meeting with another friendly survivor in DayZ can lead to a true friendship that lasts a lifetime…

  A really great survival game with one huge flaw (unless its been fixed in the latest update)

  The zombies are poorly implemented and there are not many.

  Quite a downgrade from the mod.

  kek it's finally out of early access? holy shit its been like 8 years. the game was good back in the day then it got ruined once they went to a standalone game.

    Yeah, the game is a joke. Huge fan of the original mod, and I bought this on release in early access. It was awesome too… Then scope creep of the worst kind happened. The game is completely irrelevant now. It's a glaring example to all game developers on how NOT to make a game. Only die hard fanboys would still bother with this joke.

  I bought this 4-5 years ago.

  It's still a crap game, terrible gameplay, performance issues. They should have taken this out back behind the shed and shot it years ago.

  AVOID.

  If you want a GREAT survival game, check out the subnautica deal. It's FREE in about 5.5 hours.

    Subnautica is great but not really the same game.

      7 Days to Die maybe? That can be a PVPVE, PVP or just PVE depending on how the server is set up….. The zombies are also kinda bleh, and can also glitch out the same way and even cause your death because of its buginess……they also got zombie dogs(And probably other animal zombies, oh I remember a zombie bear last I played…)…….fast little (profanity)……they'll rip off your ankles before you can even say "(profanity) zombie dogs!" Some people say, oh they're piss easy to kill, but I find them quite difficult to kill without incurring injurious to myself or even death or two…. And then you'll be crawling on all fours like a baby until you bleed/eaten out….or somehow fix up your injuries AND kill those muts at the sametime………

      But at least with this one you have the pleasure of creativity in your builds(I'd say it's a grown up version of MineCraft focused mainly on zombie survival?), unlike DayZ which is mostly nomad survival…..and best played in a group of friends, unless you're an extremely good shot as a lone wolf or have no friends and don't care if you die with all the good loot you managed to scrounged up the past month or two that you haven't came across another soul on the world map(after all it's only a game right?)……because other random players are more dangerous than the zombies, even with their glitchiness……

          @samfisher5986: Well true, there is no competitor or similar to game to DayZ's boring running, looting and dying gameplay.

          In terms to "survival" Subnautica, 7D2D and Rust are the better options. Each will offer a vastly different experience but with the main goal of staying alive.

            7D2D is would be the closest, but its also so very far as well.

            I take it you never played the mod, or you would understand.

              @samfisher5986: Well there was no other similarities……

              SCUM doesn't have zombies, has giant robots though which are mainly near millitary bases. Rust doesn't have zombies either, but have similarities to 7 Days To Die in the Creativity section of buildings……though more often these get demolished by other players……or that attack helicopter….

              I honestly can't think of a hard alternative to DayZ…….that has everything DayZ has but with no bugs or and better features…..besides the original mod for Arma 2…..

    "Free to keep" is permanent.

    "Free to play until…" is when you have to weigh between the cost of time to download vs time left to play.

  this is a free to play to get you interested so u hopefully buy it… they are trying to recover some of the thousands of people who gave up on it for taking so long…

  Only feels like yesterday when I remember twitch came out and this was all the rage.. man that time feels like forever.

  Now it has exploded a lot more and will continue doing so.
