This offer might be useful for young adults who need some form of 18+ id but may not have their learners or driving license. It can also be used as an alternative to the Proof of Age Card where ever Keypass is accepted but it doesn’t have your address details.

To clarify, the freebie is the digital keypass card obtainable when you register through the app. The normal price of the physical card is $39.95 (for comparison). A Proof of age is $10 (VIC) if you need a government id with an address.

        The deal only gives you the Digital ID (no physical card) which you can create for free when you download the app. Not using the website.

      It relies on you having 2 other forms of ID, so for some it may be cheaper but it's not entirely free if you need to purchase the other ID.

    Keypass in Digital iD™ is only accepted in VIC, QLD, NT and TAS at this time, but you can still try it out when you’re faced with unregulated proof of age moments, like purchasing tickets to a movie. Keypass in Digital iD™ is also being trialled at participating venues in the Civic region of ACT.

      Don't think it will work at bottle shops in the NT. They physically scan our cards every time to check if we are on the banned drinking register…

      I just keep a photo of my license on my phone.
      Have used it at chemists, post offices, even used it for police without a problem.

    no experience with Keypasses, but i use my WA Proof of Age card (doesn't show address details) to pick up c&c orders, claim bday freebies etc. usually works fine, except for a few occasions at harvey norman, good guys and dan murphy's where the clueless sales person tried to say it wasn't valid photo ID. escalated to the manager on all occasions who accepted it.

    will be interesting to see how many people deny this as acceptable ID because they've never heard of it before.

      Proof of age card has been replaced with photo card. Not many places accept it anymore. I know that it can be used to claim a birth certificate.

        every time i've been pulled over by police (more times than i'd like to admit), i've showed them my proof of age as ID instead of my driver's licence and they have never hassled me over it. weird how it's the people with no actual authority who put up a stink lol

    The whole of Australia just needs to move to digital drivers licences already… I've already stopped carrying ID around unless I know I'll need it.

      I got invited to trial the digital drivers licence via the nsw services app. A few weeks ago. It’s pretty cool with a weird hologram animation. I don’t even need to carry a wallet anymore in combination with nfc payments.

        FYI You've got 24 hours to produce your license if you don't have it and get pulled over. They can also check on their computers to confirm that you are licensed.

          According to VicRoads it's $159 if you fail upon request — but you can avoid it if you show the licence to a police station within seven days. What hassle!

      When driver's licences are managed at a state level it's hard for the whole country to adopt them until each state does something.

      And then we'll have different apps for different states meaning you'll probably need to carry a physical ID when traveling in another state as they won't be able to verify your digital ID.

    Whenever I hear the term “Young adults” I think of “Nozin’ Around”, from The Young Ones. It was a show “by Young Adults for Young adults” and the Vox Pop bit was a bunch of 16 year olds complaining they weren’t old enough to legally drink alcohol. I suspect this ID card is mainly so people can get into licenced premises.

    Heads up.
    Keypads is not accepted as a form of ID by a lot of lenders, teleco’s and the like.
    You are better off getting a proof of age card which is government issues and accepted everywhere.

      Enterprise and government departments determine their proof of identity requirements acceptable for their services, this may change from time to time and can impact Keypass acceptance

    Keypass is worse than useless. Nobody other than AusPost deems it valid. Avoid.

    edit: I'd go as far as saying this product seems little more than a method to collect personally identifiable data.

      This is Queensland and I know it’s also a valid ID in Victoria. I’d go as far as saying all other states and territories accept it.

      What could you possibly mean by nobody other that AusPost deems it valid and thus justify negging this deal?

        It's not valid in all states so you would have difficulty using it where a prescribed document is required

                @tomsco: Only where opinion of identity, rather than proof is necessary. So, situations where nobody is going to go to jail, get fined or lose their job over.

                I'm actually not sure if AusPost would accept it as ID if applying for a job with them, as they'd need to access the supporting data used without violating their privacy policy.

                    Context is important in each situation. I believe each state has their own views on enforcement and fines, regarding how to determine 'acceptable evidence of age'.

        The deal is for Keypass in Digital iD™. The limitations of use for a physical Keypass card, but digital.

        Who knew this existed until this morning?

        As for “stealin’ yo data”, Free is the key here. The link was just easier to add than me list a wall of text describing the data potentially up for grabs.

        But, I don't know what AusPost has in mind here, so I hope I'm wrong to be worried about any of this.

    Probably wouldn't be accepted in SA, most places quite strictly only accept passport, drivers license or physical official proof of age card.

      Until lots of people start using the app you might find that some places don't know what it is and not accept it.

      A government proof of age card as a backup is probably a good idea.

      Glad I could help. I went and got my learners two years ago just so i didn't have to lug around my passport to bars and stuff. Now i'm waiting for the post office to deliver my P2 card.

    Thanks for sharing…as most of the comments have been saying I've also been wallet-less since I got the ANZ CC 2 years ago and absolutely love it.

    Surprise surprise WA will be the last state to adopt this but I'll download anyway and not use it for years until we finally catch up haha

    FYI, took me a couple of minutes before I realised the digital ID was seperate from the main deal (admittedly I skimmed over the details) so in case you do the same here is the direct link to more about the Digital ID app.
