Yeah, it looked weird. For a moment I read it as Free Fore skin :\

  • yeah, yeah, I'll have a look in a couple of weeks o.O

  • /waits for people to say how is this a bargain?, that the game sucks and only 12 year olds play it

    • and acting like 12 yo or younger -> look at Luke Munday

      • Most ozb users are 12 years old or younger.

        • In maturity, yes. Probably me included.

    • To be fair, it is a kids game and it does suck.

      • Real Men Play Call Of Duty™

        • Why is it that COD has more 12 year olds in it than Fortnite does?

12 year olds wanting to be real men play Call of Duty™

Have you actually ever played it? And if you have played it, more than once ?

        • -2

I have. My mate's son begged me to get online with him. It's terrible.
I found it very toxic, full of 12 year olds, the graphics are clearly aimed at children, the business model is insidious and aimed at exploiting the fact that children will buy anything.

I'd never, ever let my kids play that game.

          FWIW I also hated PUBG

          • @imurgod: So you tried it once and didn't like it. Maybe try it more than once if you're into gaming. I hated it at first glance and even at first attempt at playing it. But After a few more games and making 'adult' friends online, it is quite enjoyable.

You don't need blood and gore in a shooter game for it to be enjoyable (Eg. Counter-Strike)

Bit harsh to not let your kids enjoy something just because you don't. Would you not let them eat a particular food cos you don't like it too ?

            • -4

@Danstar: I can tell you it's definitely not my kind of game. I played it for about a week and still hated it.
I agree you don't need blood and gore, but I do need a compelling reason to bother playing it. There is none.

I'd make some adult friends but it's filled with kids AFAIK and the "adults" I know of that play it are pretty much big, obnoxious children. I have hundreds of gamer mates and none of them play it. A few used to play PUBG but that game is worse if anything - That's $34 I'll never get back.

That said, I have a very high end PC Sim Racing Rig and there's a lot of entitled "adults" on those serious sims too, but at least there is a large contingent of serious racers and you can get into rooms that lock out racers with bad reputations.

Re not letting my kids play, I know far too many parents who's kids have had all sorts of issues thanks to Fortnite.

From dropping grades, to deceit, to addiction, to racking up insane amounts on their credit card (although I know many parents suffered this thanks to COD as well - another terrible game), to flat out bullying at school!

Also, there's stuff like this https://www.theguardian.com/games/2018/jun/20/fortnite-schoo…

My son is dux of his year and a high achiever. He isn't interested in gaming at the moment, and I'm happy to keep it that way. It's not going to have any positive effect on his life.
The marketing of games is awful these days and a lot is aimed at kids whom the companies know they can suck in with FTP and then ruin with microtransactions or PTW.

For perspective, I'm not a "blame it all on games" parent. I'm an avid gamer with an OG Xbox, 360, XB1, Gaming PC, Fanatec racing rig and Oculus Rift.

I know from growing up with my Atari 2600,C64, Amiga that kids can't moderate game time and it's a battle for parents to enforce it.

I loved games (and still do) but I can manage my business, family, etc. commitments with my gaming because I'm an adult.

Lastly, of course I won't let them eat a particular food. If I did, all they'd eat is chocolate and cake.

                @imurgod:

Re not letting my kids play, I know far too many parents who's kids have had all sorts of issues thanks to Fortnite.
From dropping grades, to deceit, to addiction, to racking up insane amounts on their credit card (although I know many parents suffered this thanks to COD as well - another terrible game), to flat out bullying at school!*

Sorry to say, that's poor parenting. Not the games fault. As if it wasn't Fortnite it'd be something else. Fortnite is just the "in-thing" to blame on peoples poor parenting, among many other things people complain about.

So it's not so much Fortnite is a bad game, it's just not your genre. That's like me saying your racing sim game sucks, where as in doesn't suck. It's just not my cup of tea

                • @Danstar: Fair comment about the genre not being for me (it is clearly the case), but that's not the only reason (see my comments about the business model).

                  Regarding your comment about parenting:

                  1. Whilst you and I (being gamers) would be aware of this stuff (and believe me I can't stand lazy parents who use screens as babysitters and then blame games for the demise of society whilst they upload to insta-book!), most parents are clueless about how insidious games like fortnite are and these games prey on that - ergo, it is at least partly their fault IMHO, considering the microstransactions are clearly aimed at kids - this practice is simply evil and predatory and should have strict rules around it or be flat out banned.

                  2. My kids are still too young (lucky!), but I know most kids are very crafty about how they deceive their parents into letting things get out of hand (if you don't have kids, you won't understand at all).

                  3. Kids being bullied at school over this game (the fact that it happens still confuses the hell out of me) isn't the parents fault. The line can be drawn directly from the game to the bullying of this type.

                  4. Judging from the negs over a conversation that is not us arguing, but merely respectfully discussing the topic, it backs my comment regarding most fortnite fans being toxic.

                  • @imurgod: Bullying isn’t up to the parents I agree. Unless you are the parent of the bully.

And I still stand by my comment in regards to if it wasn’t fortnite kids were playing it would just be soemthing else

                    • +1

@Danstar: Oh without a doubt and it always has been. Throughout the decades, parents have had one challenge or another and today it's tech.

No easy answers I'm afraid and I certainly don't know how I'll come to deal with it in the coming years.

I think I'll try to keep my kids busy and I'll definitely be going to great lengths to limit their game time. but I know it'll be a very steep uphill battle and I hope that they'll be well adjusted enough to moderate for themselves.

I can easily count 15 kids off the top of my head, who's families I know and I can honestly say that those kids always have their faces in a game and won't even bother to greet people and their parents have given up on even trying. That won't be me. I come from a European family and that kind of thing is simply unacceptable.

My best mate recently took his sons console, laptop, scuf controller and games and threw them into their pool. After that, he cancelled subscriptions and had the ISP cancel the internet. I don't want to ever have to overreact like that. That's someone who didn't sort the issue out earlier.

Lastly, parents of bullies should be held accountable. Lots of the parents are bullies themselves and take no action to address the behaviour.

                      • +1

@imurgod: We sounds very alike mate. My kids play fortnite (as do I) but homework, dinner, people who come over( like you said) and the list goes on takes priority

Just don’t be like one European family I know who don’t let their kids have any gaming consoles. I think this will lead to rebellious behaviour in the future

                        • +1

@Danstar: Sounds like you have a handle on it. I hope to be able to achieve a good balance.

You might hear from me in the future asking for tips and support!

    downvoting because its fortnite

  • So can u apply this to someone elses existing fortnite account?

  • If this were Activision, they'd give you the free skin. Let you play with it for a while, really get used to it. Then take it away and charge you top dollar for it.

  • Free Fortnite skin

FYI it's an Emoticon not an Emote (which is a dance)

  • +1

And ended up like Luke Munday? NO THANKS!

    • That's a typical Fortnite user, they all turn out like that.

  • +3

Wonder who they stole the dance move from this time lol

    • Stole
Or used ? They’re not hiding that they have taken popular dance moves or items or even ideas for the game.

Which new game recently released is totally unique ?

      • Stole and used in fortnite without permission ?, hence 3 people are sueing them.. going to be interesting if they win !

        • +1

Well lets hope common sense prevails

  • Don't worry OzBargainers, it's a fad that will soon die in the arse.

    • Considering it’s only been out for just over a year and only getting more popular, don’t hold your breath for too

Legit question, are these cross platform items?

Like, I am not gonna go through the hassle of downloading the game to my PS4, syncing my account and all that, only to have it say I can't use the skin on Switch, where I actually play. Then again, I'm never gonna use this skin anyway and just wanna digital horde.

    • Yes, they are cross platform as long as you log in under the same epic games account

      • Are you 100%? Because I did it once not too long back when PS4 finally caved to cross platform play, and the Plus pack wouldn't show up on anything but PS4.

        • Yes. Well, at least I know that my sons plays on Switch and Xbox and Swith exclusive skin is available on Xbox

        • It shows up on PC at least, haven't been able to confirm on other consoles. I think all console exclusive skins show up on PC but not sure if they show up on other consoles. I remember that previously if you had a ps4 exclusive skin, it would appear as a default skin on the other consoles.

    • And if you don’t need the skin, can I please have it for my son?

      • You don't get sent a code or anything for it, it's just a PSN purchase. Just make a PSN account or log in with your son's, subscribe to the free trial of PS+, get the skin and all that, then disable Plus and Bob's your uncle.

        • Do I need to have a PlayStation to sign up?

          • @unwashed00: You can sign up online for a PSN account, then do the PS+ trial online, all of that through computer, but I think to actually gain the item, you need to play the game and log in with the account on a PS4. Could be wrong though.

    • If your PS4 account is tied to Fortnite then you cannot use the same account on the Switch - you cannot access the skins etc.

      • I can and do use the same account, but skins I have no idea, hell, I couldn't even get the PS+ pack to work on the PS4.

        • I should have been more clear, you cannot use the skins from your account if it is tied to the PS4, due to licensing between Sony and Nintendo. That is, you need to re-purchase the skins for use on the Nintendo.

  • Any way to get this on my son's account?

I have PS+, but don't play this crap.

He loves it, but has his own PSN account without Plus. I guess I'd have to link his epic Games account to my PSN account to get the DLC and then link it back to his

    • +1

Could also sign up to the 14-day trial?

    • Bit of stuffing around it you could do it. Would need to unlink his PS account and epic account. Then link your ps account to his epic account, play it. Then do the reverse

  • steals your dance

    • Where’d you get your nickname from George ?

  • *austistic 14yo screeching*
