      How about cooking oil?

      • +3

Don't forget the salt and pepper as additives.

      Normal vehicle?

If you're driving a modern 'normal' vehicle with a 10-15k service interval, you'll want a synthetic oil.

If you want to change the oil every 5k then sure, mineral oil is usually fine. But most 'normal' vehicles these days will require a synthetic for 'normal' service intervals.

    • All relative.

I'd be more comfortable putting this in for 10k km in stop start traffic than mineral. I'd be more comfortable leaving this for 12 months than mineral.

For the price difference between this on sale, and mineral oil, it's a no brainer.

And plus, this isn't even real synthetic oil - it's just Group 3 hydrocracked mineral oil

  • Nice find, going to change the oil in my parents craptiva cheers OP !!

    • +3

Pretty sure CRAPtiva won't need Fully Sync oil. :-)

      • If you're following the service intervals of 15k, you'll want a synthetic oil.

It makes no difference when it's new, but after 10k a mineral oil won't be doing its job.

        • I always go with Castrol Edge and replaced it within every 10k. IMO, mineral should be replaced every 5k.

          • @Louis89: I agree - I should have said 'by 10k a mineral oil won't be doing its job."

          • -1

@Louis89: I've been changing MY full synthetic every 5,000 for around two years now.

I've just started to do 7,500 as the previous owners didn't do an oil change for over 20,000ks on a 220,000k 1.8t.

As for the Captiva, I'd probably put semi synthetic in it normally, but with these prices for the same price/a few dollars more you may as well get full synthetic.

  • this is also on sale at supercheap not as cheap but $33.89 if no repco near you and they will probably match it anyway

  • DPF friendly?

    • +2

      Pretty sure no.

    • No, they have another version that is DPF friendly and specific

    • No, DPFs are not friendly.

    I already have 3 bottles….. Do I need more? 😂 Good price in the $30s mark! 👌

    • I had hoarded 6 at one point, ended up selling them to a friend.

      • +1

I'm thinking the same. They're regularly this price and I'm good for at least another 15000km so probably no point.

    Bugger, need 5W-20.

Weird. What car? Which area in Oz?

      • Vic. Ford Coyote V8.

  • If only it were Dexos2 ….

    Nice one!

Waiting for their Penrite to drop… Most mechanic reckon it's better?

  • -2

Mineral oil is all you need in a normal vehicle, this is like PULP fuel for a std. vehicle, waste of $$$
