@peterpeterpumpkin: Agree - there can be downsides to Airbnb. Only discovered that in recent Sydney trip. No problems in Japan.

When host cancelled afternoon before check-in last month, Airbnb could only offer 10% additional credit on 2n @$38/n = $3.80/n. Additional cost of late booking was almost $100/n!

Hostels are more central, handler for transport, & easier to find when arriving late. Lots of cheap options in lower cost countries ($13/n in Japan for own basic hotel room). Downsides of shared room are numerous… I like my sleep.

When booking Jetstar flights you receive a $25 Voucher, which I've used for hostel booking. Received another with this deal.

            • @INFIDEL: I didn't get a voucher!

I wonder if you have to be signed in when you book to get a voucher?

              • @peterpeterpumpkin: Your flight unlocks a $25 voucher for Adelaide hotels Great value in a $1 flight deal👍
Have an account (with same email) but wasn't signed in. Just appeared in my inbox. (expires 4/1/19!)

Also a $25 flight voucher came in today for a $250+ Airbnb booking in October (expires 2021)😀

Was given 2 $25 accommodation vouchers (from OzBargain member) before Sydney trip. Used 3 for 3 separate nights over weekend in 4 bed room near Town Hall (Base) for total of $40 (saving $75).

Have travelled cheap up to 9 months per year for last 15 years, so have a few tales from hostel experiences! A songwriter in my hostel room wrote a song about the drunk Scotsman who mistakenly got into bed with me… That's why I prefer my own room now.

                • @INFIDEL: Yeah, I might contact them. It's worked for me before (not many hostels on there unfortunately). Though if I don't go to Darwin I'd like to use it closer to home.

I can totally relate to the own room thing. It's just my budget that can't relate :) At least in Asia it seems that all the new dorm beds are capsuled/curtained but you can't compete with a room that's big enough to do push-ups in. And being woken up when you intended.

                  • @peterpeterpumpkin: As flight voucher has only a few days to use (4/1), looked for 1 night stay when I return (@10pm) to Gold Coast. Not much public transport then. Seems a better hostel has 4 bed dorm for $few/n after voucher.

Not many choices & none showed for date & price is dearer next year.

      • hoping for a Singapore sale, booked the same tickets.
        wish I got perth.

        • Even since Jetstar brought in their membership and AirAsia closed up shop I don't know if we'll see prices much better than what you see now (~$250 return for non members). But I'm not Darwinian either so I don't keep track.

Yeah, Perth would have been a better compromise.

    • I was thinking the same about the Sunshine Coast! Let's do an exchange.

Ha. Website Fail. Tried booking but received an error - something about the fare code had to be between -1 and 6. Same error when tried again. So had to select different day. Now looking at my email, it turns out I have two tickets on two different days to the same city. Oh well its only $1.

  • I just realised I booked a ticket for my partner but accidentally clicked 'mr' instead of 'miss'. The name is completely correct though. Is this going to matter? Should I ring Jetstar or leave it?

    • Play the pricilla card…

hahaha. I Messeged the online chat service. said it was a 'delicate issue' and if possible they can change it. they said no worries. noextra charge

  • so far all i see from Sydney is 121$ :(

  • double post

  • Perth just getting absolutely wrecked in these sales…

I wonder if Jetstar are getting their monies worth through correcting people's errors via fees.

    • Including excess baggage fees. Apparently all the airlines are getting stricter about weighing carry on luggage too.

Can't find any $1 deals. Looking at Adelaide to Sunshine/Gold Coast.

The site displays no $1 deals despite using month view and despite saying they aren't sold out.

Lame as fk system to try and book these.

    • Agree.. couldn't find any from Adelaide despite not been sold out

      • +1

Now it's reporting all sold out.

I think their booking system could be miles better to allow people to actually see the dates that have sales. Instead of sifting through like you're playing some type of Russian roulette or guessing game.

        • +1

Probably on purpose to slow people down in snapping up the sales fares :o

  • Anyone who wantn to change mind for Adelaide to GoldCost or sunshinw cost please pm me

    Thanks

    • Wouldn't this cost money and defeat the purpose of cheap flights?

      • +2

They don't check ID if you use a web check-in.

        • +1

who knows when the new rules come in and if it will apply to all passengers,

New flight rule to force passengers to carry ID on Australian domestic flights | 12 SEP 2018

@whyisave: Misleading headline as the article is about airports. Also the police are not there to check if you are travelling on someone else's name they are not going to compare it to the boarding pass.

            • +1

@inherentchoice: if the police are given powers to check ID at airports, or before flights,
then they will make it a rule for all passengers to carry ID.

i also heard/saw somewhere else, that the authorities wanted to introduce mandatory ID checking for all domestic passengers.

  • Anyone know if there will be a Jetstar deal today?
