I've been thinking. I know, that's unusual, right?
But for years our favourite stores have been given catchy nicknames because us aussies are too lazy to say the brands in full. Example? Well… here's a few:

Woolworths: Woolies
McDonald's: Maccas
Harvey Norman: Harveys
Hungry Jacks: Hungrys

I wonder if anyone can add any to the list. I'm sure there's plenty more.

Anyway, here's what I was thinking. Officeworks is just too much of a bloody nuisance to say. 3 Syllables?! You've gotta be kidding! The only time my tongue's not that lazy is…. well… you know when… wink, wink!

Most OzBargainers refer to Officeworks as OW, but saying O-W just doesn't roll off the tongue. Not to mention if you read the two letters phonetically, people may think you're in some degree of pain. Mind you, funny though… us aussies are too lazy to even say 4 letters… Hence ouch becomes ow. :P

Right, well…
From this day forth, i hereby declare officeworks shall be referred to colloquially as 'OFFIES'.
Thoughts? Suggestions? General Abuse? Please post below.

    On internet forums, it is easier to type OW than OFFIES. So I doubt there will be any change to OW reference.

    Verbally, shouldn't the aussie way be pronouned as Offoes?

    I don't know anyone who calls Hungry Jacks "Hungrys". I think I would laugh at them if they did :P

    Nicknames annoy me in general when spoken out loud. For some strange reason I associate "maccas" with Bogan.

      We call them Fungry's (as in Fungry Dacks…which may be a derivation of Lumpy Dacks)….dunno why.
