"You purchased this course on Nov 17th, 2017"

    • Haha was going to post the same thing.

No offence. If you really want to learn Javascript, start with https://www.w3schools.com/js/
Then learn Javascript 30 days from WesBos. After that go through ES6 tutorial from WesBos. That should be enough for you to be a junior dev to start with.

    • Thanks.. Why wesbos amoungst all other online courses ?

No offence. w3schools is rubbish. The first example uses Date() with creating an instance. A couple of examples later, you're told to use var when you should be using let and const. It has always been a terribly outdated resource.

      Better off with a trade.

Agree, 36 and wasted 10 years trying to be a web developer. Do a trade kids

        • You must be a bad web developer or aren’t staying up to date with the latest frameworks.

          • @lowlifesphere: There's nothing wrong with being mediocre at what you do. The majority of people in any career are usually mediocre and often succeed due to barriers to entry. A misconception is that 100% of Australians must be better at what they do than those freelancers from India that make up 25% of the world's online labour force. But no one questions why the lady at Coles deli works in customer service if she doesn't know how to smile. I'm sure we can swap her with an Indian lady from some remote village that can do a better job.

Working in STEM fields can be intimidating when you're surrounded by more high functioning autistics than usual, but nobody cares how talented you were when you're dead. Or how much you bludged at work to spend more time with your wife and kids.

I know it's not what you meant but I think humans need a reality check every now and then.

@peterpeterpumpkin: They said there is no point in studying web development based on the assumption that all jobs are being outsourced. Look at SEEK and you'll see that there is a huge demand for web developers. You don't have to be a savant. From my experience outsourced web development results in utter trash and most companies know this.

@lowlifesphere: Latest frameworks are dictated by your employer, you can't be a smartass and tell your CIO to upgrade to the latest Angular ffs.

You get paid by your employer and you develop with whatever framework they stuck with.

@[Deactivated]: I know this but if you needed a NEW job, having knowledge of the latest frameworks gives you an advantage. Look at React as an example where demand is growing fast. There are old web devs still stuck on jQuery.

              • +1

@lowlifesphere: Few years back Ruby was the hotcake, now its almost dead. In couple of years React will be dead too, will be replaced with something new.

Be a dentist, in a hundred years, mankind still need teeth to chew on $3 Big Mac.

                • @[Deactivated]: Yeah you are right about that. I wouldn’t get into web dev unless you are really interested in it and don’t mind learning new things throughout your career. Depends on the person you are. Dentistry on the other hand could get pretty boring for some people. Some people like cushy jobs that are rinse and repeat, some are more suited to fields that change constantly.

How do you waste your 10 years doing web development? I am at uni studying computer science, moving from tradie (electrician). The idea of working as a tradie when I was 18 years is great, but your body can only handle so much physical work after becoming 30 years old.
