Update

It is possible that the cashback Claim form hasn't been coded correctly and may appear to accept a purchase of a Printer and a Single cartridge as a qualifying purchase. This appears to be go against the Terms and Conditions of the promotion which states that the double cashback requires the purchase of a printer and complete set of printer cartridges.

If in any doubt, please contact Officeworks and HP regarding your order.

Update on 29 December, Advice from HP Customer Service is as follows:

Please be informed that you don't have to enter all purchased inks in one claim, once you have enter one ink and one printer that will be count as one claim, we will validate your claim with your invoice.

Once we have validated that your invoice has full set of ink(Cyan, Magenta, Yellow,Black) and printer, your claim will be approved and if not we will update your claim to printer only.

I was shopping for 6950 through jb website as they are running 30% off hp printer at the moment and saw the cashback deal from hp-
https://h41201.www4.hp.com/AdLanding/au/en/16305/?

then I tried to check the price in officeworks and found a better model but with the same price as 6950 in jb.

And, if you get one ink cartridge with the printer, you can double cash back from HP.

So I paid $119 for 6960 + 905 ink and am claiming $80 back which I think is a steal for this printer.

the 6970 would be a better option as it supports 2-sided scan but OW doesnt stock them.

There are other printers eligible for cashback too, so please chech hp page yourself.

I contacted HP regarding this promotion. They replied in a rather short email:
    28 December

    Dear Shaw,

    Thank you for your email.

Please be informed that to be eligible for the double cashback reward, you have to purchase a Printer and a set of ink Black, Yellow, Magenta, Cyan within the promotion period.

    Thanks and kind regards,

HP's marketing department is currently unaware that the cashback form is actually faulty / incorrect and that nobody was able to actually add more than 1 ink cartridge (per printer purchase) into the cashback form. I've sent another question however since it's the last weekend before the New Year's I'm not sure if I'll get a response within this week, or the next.

As such if you only bought one cartridge and not a whole set, you may not get $80 in rebates.

    • thanks, going to return it.

The ink (value combo pack) is more expensive than the printer! $134
    https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/hp-905xl-i…

Do you know if this ink is valid for the $40 extra cash back?
    https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/hp-905-ink…

It is $71 (before cashback) for the 300 pages.

    • They do have cashback on their smart tanks which i think is a much better deal rather than getting sucked into a cheap printer but then having to pay for expensive ink.

      • +1

        smarts tanks? Links please.

        • The link in OP says $100 cashback on their smart tanks. Though continuous ink tank printers are more expensive but then ink is cheaper. Also i don't know if the HP ones are any good.

    • +1

Ink/toner being more $ than the printer started when Jesus was a boy.

Works for me, as i just source DIY refills.

      • I have a similar printer that someone left om the side of the rd. A full set of cheapest on eBay inks is 20 bucks, I dont print much so I haven't gone through a set yet but the printer has been great so far with no sign of the inks causing any issues

  • +2

is it one ink cartridge or full set of Original HP inks to qualify for double cashback?

  • +1

will be great if you post the exact links for achieving buying 1 printer + 1 ink for only $40. thanks

  • Awesome! Thanks OP! I opted for free premium delivery as well.

This site states "2 Purchase two of the same eligible HP inks*

  • "So I paid $119 for 6960 + 905 ink and am claiming $80 back which I think is a steal for this printer."
Can you elaborate how you got those prices?

  • Yeah I’d like to get this

  • It clearly say full set… he bought only black one, so not qualify for double cashback, but still eligible for $40…

    • Check my comment above. A dummy claim can sort this out easily.

      • Thanks Cisco…

    • Although I agree with you, heres proof that OP's deal works.

Good find! ALthough I think the black is worth the extra $10 or so since it's going to be more useful in most cases.

      • +1

Buy 5 of these printers in 5 different transactions each with a black ink cartridge and your already saving $5.50 on your black ink over the course of 5 black ink cycles, plus you have 4 backup printers if one or more goes bonkers and you have the 5 sets of starter color ink cartridges to ensure that you can still print with your black ink when your first lot of color ink has run out !! Ha Ha

        • +1

          lol. Damn starter cartridges!

        • Lol "then you have four backup printers" !!!

  • Here is how the HP Back To School Cashback Promotion Reads out - This one's with a Black Cartridge.

  • Thanks OP, got one finally, with the printer + black ink combination.

    Read terms and conditions

You have to purchase complete set

As per t&c, they have to manually validate the claim, it is not done automatically

They will reject the claim, it doesn't matter what the website says when you begin the claim. At the end of the day they will redirect you to t&c of Promo if you complain

This is going to get messy for some people

    Ymmv

      • +1

Might be a website coding error

Trust me they won't honor it when manually validating the claim as it doesn't meet T&C of the promo

        • Yeah, could be. I hope you’re wrong… I bought one lol. Still guaranteed $40 off so not too shabby.

      • +1

I don’t think they will or have to honour it.

Maybe one or two would have slipped through. But now with so many of the exact same claim. They’ll notice & rectify.

  • +11

For the love of lasers! PLEASE Don't do it!
Inkjets should die alongside fax machines.

    • +3

      I agree. Talk about landfill

      They should be banned

      • +1

A few months ago, I purchased a relatively large number of laptops from Dell, who tried to GIFT me a free Injet with each laptop. I had to call them and ask them not to send the free inkjet printers. They were like "But sir, they are free!" to which I replied, "Mate, I'm actually prepared to pay you more, if there is an option to not have those piles of useless plastic sent to me!"

        • +6

Please hand in your OzBargain membership and be on your way, thank you goodbye

          • +6

@[Deactivated]: Totally agree, especially if you only print once a month and by then the heads clog up and you use up half the cartridge trying to clean the heads and use twenty sheets of paper and then after unsuccessfully cleaning the heads you are forced to go and get 5ml of black ink for $40, and then repeat after two months. Laser toner will last you years. If your school kids really really need colour for an assignment go to OW and print off a few colour laser copies.

        • +2

Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should

      • Lucky there's ink tank and electronic recycling programs so they don't end up in landfill.

        • +2

It would be great to see statistics of how many actually end up in recycling programs..

Just sounds like an initiative implemented so you can parrot it & walk away as if the problem is solved.

    • +1

I thought the same until my laser died and the cost of a new fuser is nearly the price of a new printer

  • T&C clearly States: FULL SET OF INK. Whew was About to buy 5

    • didnt you read the comments in this thread?

  • Just don't open the box(s) and if the rebate is not honored return to OW for full refund?
BTW how do you think China built that Military Island in the South China Sea? Used inkjet printers but of course :-0

    • 75 days waiting time for the rebate to come thru, officeworks return time is 30 days

      • +2

30 days, so buy, claim, return within 30 days and see if you get free money :-)

      • The confirmation page says that the claim will be reviewed "within the next few days" with an update then sent, I know they technically have a lot longer to do it but that's just to cover their arses.

  • Thanks OP - great deal. Bought for collect tomorrow

  • +1

If anyone has tried a dummy claim you will notice that after you select your printer and then select say an individual ink cartridge, the web claim will then proceed to the claim amount of $80, it will not let you add an individual cartridge again. If you go back and try to add another cartridge you first have to add a printer and will end up with 2 claims. So I think either their T&C's are messed up and full set is in there maybe to get you to buy more liquid gold when it isn't necessary to gain the full extra $40 rebate.

  • +2

You could look into the epson ecotank if you want long term ink for less. 2 years of ink included in the box and replacements $25 for 6000 pages (black)

    https://www.epson.com.au/ecotank/

    • These look good. Any good deals on them?

    • Print quality is poor on all ET range. Not suitable for business.

  • +2

    More landfill, shame.

  • +6

Mine was rejected last time when verified manually because I didn't purchase the set, though the claim page allowed me to lodge double cashback.

    • +1

Where were you 3 hours and 32 minutes ago ? :)

  • +2

Hp make some pretty shocking printer's

  • Can someone please guide me. Looking for a compact (have limited space) and economical laser printer for school student and occasional printing. Thanks

    • Just get a cheapo brother.

    • I recommend a wireless printer so anyone can access it in the house. You can print emails etc from mobile phone too.

      • One with both Google print and Air print so it easily works with everyone's phone and pc

    • If you can find one a Xerox p205b.

They are small, laser and have cheap toner.

They are USB only but should do what you need.

  • How many pages are these starter ink cartage going to last?

  • +2

Don’t buy inkjet printers. They’re such scams.

  • +1

“Eligible ink: full set, XL size or multipack”

  • +6

Go laser or go home 🏠

    • +2

What laser can I buy that prints properly on photo paper?

      • These cheapies don't print photos properly, at least IMO. And total cost per photo must be 10-100x usual photo outlets.

    • Where can I buy a wireless colour laser with scanning for $50.30 after cashback?

Sure if you print a lot lasers make sense, however for the occasional print an inkjet is fine.

      • +1

        Occasional.

Probably cheaper, less hassle, no upkeep & better quality to go to a library or a friends/ families place.

  • +2

Can't wait for the backlash when everyone's claims get denied

    • +1

      Charming fellow.

      • I spent 10 minutes buying the printer, 5 minutes claiming the cashback, it'll be another 10 minutes to return it if it doesn't work out, there'll be no complaints from me.

        • I am thinking of doing the same.

How long would it take to know if the double rebate claim was approved or declined. (When would you know if you can use the printer or need to return it)

I ordered the $15 basic HP printer for store pick up and would cancel and order this

  • Thanks OP

  • I had similar email from HP.

I they mislead people by providing too many Links for cashback making this complicated as per below link we should get double cashback it does not say anything about full setor single

    https://h41201.www4.hp.com/WMCF.Web/au/en/static/1/16305/Pro…

    Thank you for your email.

Please be informed that as per the terms and conditions, eligible Ink or Toner Cartridges must be the applicable full set for the printer and can be standard size,

XL size or a multipack to be eligible for the double cashback reward.

Attached below is a screenshot of the table of corresponding reward to the relevant eligible product.

    Thanks and kind regards,

  • Forgot to follow up on this. Looks like my $80 cash back was approved. I did buy the full set of standard inks (not XL), however there was no option for this in the clain, only the XL which is what I selected. 45 days from 3rd Jan. $81.30 net cost.
