  • Do sensor lights trip the notifications?

    • +1

Depends how you set the sensitivity. I believe this doorbell has an update that is coming early 2019 (or is it here already?) so you can ensure it only alerts for people. My Ring Pro manages this well already. No false alarms

      • How did u install the pro? Having trouble figuring it out

        • It was a bit tricky for me. You need to get the wires right before it will turn on properly. That was the reason it wasn't progressing for me. The Ring help line gave really good support

          • @RevBargain: Most electrical things need the wires right before they will work!
I found that a hilarious observation.

            • @bmerigan: Glad to provide humour. The thing with this one is that it can look like you have the wires right because it will turn on but not work properly because the pro wire kit is installed incorrectly. There was then an issue with it blowing fuses because I hadn't adjusted a setting in the app. Not as straight forward as I thought it might be

Mamamia! I'm staying the fck away from Ring doorbell for now! It seems their product still far from market ready. I thought the delay just affects people with low internet speed, but it looks like it's almost everyone. That would pretty render the main feature of ring useless!

Reviews of 2 stars below really tells the big story

I’ve been using one for 12 months. No complaints from me. Has been an excellent device.

      I have NBN FTTH.

      • i have been using for more than six months no complains either . In-fact i have the version one and with this deal i got one more

Dude stay fck away from productreview website.

      • +4

This. The site is full of negative bias. Consider how many times you've had a good experience with a product and left a good review. People only turn to the internet and sites like productreview when things go wrong.

        • Whilst I agree with the fact that people often do pile in on the negative, probably, but we need the bad experiences from people to even things out from the fanboys 😉

And from what I can see, that a truely great product seems to have superb reviews even on a site like PR. Eg. Dyson V8 or Bose qc35.

I've been using one for seven months and had no problems with the video streaming or archiving. I have NBN FTTN. I also have a Ring Floodlight camera and no issues with both of them recording at once. I have a lot of coming and going and the doorbell battery still lasts about two months before requiring an overnight charge.

      Meh.

ProductReview makes every company look like they're straight from hell.

      • +1

I disagree, I bought stuff based on positive reviews too.

  • +2

I have one of these and I could only describe it as OK. It could be and should be great considering the price and the added ongoing cost of the cloud storage. I hate that it won't record more than 30 seconds per activation which isn't great for security. Also on full sensitivity, if somebody walks quickly up and drops a package I only catch the back of them.

  • I've had the ring 2 doorbell for around 12 months and I really like it. The app has had some really good improvements recently and personally I've had little or no lag, nothing to make the day to day use disappointing.
There are a lot of people who have had issues, and even more with delays using the Nest, but I always wonder if it's a user error based on how well it works for me.
I'd purchase from a store with good returns policy, Office Works and Bunnings are always happy to take things back if they don't work as well as expected.

  • Sounds like it should be sub $100 with all the negative reviews, such a shame too, great concept.

    • +1

Unfortunately it doesn't work well for people with poor tech skills or poor internet connections.
Couple this with misplaced expectations and you get negative product reviews. Mine works like a dream 95% of the time. If I wanted 99% reliability I'd expect to pay 10 times as much. Frankly, I'm surprised it is this cheap in the first place

      • +2

Not when negative reviews are all consistent type..

    • But you think double that price is a deal??

  • Really cool product but I think I will wait for 3rd gen.

Any options that can be hard wired?

    • +1

Ring Pro (actually all of them can be hard wired if you have powered doorbell wiring and it will keep the battery ones charged)

Or if you have the $$ https://www.doorbird.com

I'm on NBN FTTB and have no network lag issues. When someone rings the doorbell my phone does ring, but by the time I get my phone out of my pocket it is already too late to answer. The short ring time/delay combination make it unworkable. I do not have the cloud subscription. I cannot find an option to increase the incredibly short ring time. I suspect that they may have done this on purpose so that users have no option but to take the cloud subscription service. The product works great, provided the person at the door presses the button a second time after you fail to answer after the first time they call. Or if you happen to have your phone unlocked and in your hand when someone rings.

Get a Nest Hello. Knows the difference between people and other things so you don't get notifications every 5 seconds. Integrates seamlessly with Google Home too, unlike Ring.

Example, when someone rings my doorbell, all the Google Homes in the house tell me who's at the door, the Google Home Hub switches automatically to the video stream of the front door. And I can also ask my TV (Nvidia Shield) to show me who's at the front door.

The subscription service (not everyone's cup of tea) provides facial recognition and constant video stream with timelapse etc.

    • I couldn’t find this being sold anywhere. May I ask where you purchased the Hello from and were you able to install it yourself?

    • Are you issuing commands to your NVIDIA Shield via the remote or via an external mic?

    • Needs to be hardwired which could be a deal breaker for a lot of people here..

    • The Google Home integration would be a nice feature to have. What's the delay like?

  • A good price on a Ring Chime would be handy.

good for those annoying knock and runners

    Ring Doorbell 2
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FRCK116/

Nearly every review on frontpage is 1/5.
However if one sorts by "Newest" comments, most of them are 4/5, 5/5. Recent major software upgrade?

  • The DoorBird is far better than this. No ongoing fees etc. It’s German made as well 😊
