sure you can, it depend which sim you use from which telco, well….actually it doesnt, they all end up sending all your data to Australia government and shared with a few other nations.

      • +4

Totally this, the hypocrisy and misinformation with China is mind boggling in this case.

        • +4

It was just a movement initiated by Trump to block China from gaining technological advantage.

          • -1

@Letrico: it's not really Trump, he is just the comedian. the smear campaign on China is done by the media, and who owns media? big corporations, governments.

            • +4

@abctoz: That is true. Other companies won't allow Huawei to dominate the 5G market.

          • -1

@Letrico: Chinese spying on the American government via their routers was reported in 2014. Long before Trump. Are you blaming Obama too?

        • +14

China stealing trade secrets and intellectual property is as real as climate change. But there will always be deniers - especially those with vested interests.

          • +2

@Peck: Your assumption is that it is only China that does these things. And when 'intellectual property' translates into 'gouging the market for eternity' then I say good on anyone who can do the same thing at a lesser price. Pretty sure that's called free market economy OK when it suits 'our side' but bot others. Nothing new.

          • +1

@Peck: Aussie IT company I use to work for refused to enter the US market for the exact same reason, sold everywhere else but the US, mind you it was niche market they sold to

            • +1

@Trantor: And now it's illegal for Europeans data to be stored in Australia because the Government outlawed encryption.

EU leadership do not want to violate their citizen's human rights by storing their data in Australia.

        • +3

the hypocrisy and misinformation with China is mind boggling in this case.

The typical Australian criticizes China for being a police state. As they live in a country with an internet firewall, mandatory collection of all metadata which is more intrusive than content and where the state has outlawed encryption.

They're clueless brainwashed delusional people in other words.

          • @Diji1: Agree. They are nothing different from people in China. Brainwashed by the biased media who always claim they are neutral and independent.

    • +1

Wow, defenders of Chinese govt out in force. Dodgy.

  • -1

Has the green screen issue been fixed? Huawei officials has kept silent about the issue/fix 4 more than 3 months and it’s a typical disgusting behavior of a Chinese company, never respecting the consumers. I won’t buy anything from a dishonest company.

    • +5

Apparently all the screen with green issue was supplied by LG and Huawei has switched the supplier

        • +13

It is indeed issue with the LG panels as pixel 3 were having similar issues with green screen using LG panels. There were not official announcement or acknowledgement of the issue but both phones screens exhibit the same symptoms but seems to be much more common with Huawei mate 20 pro.

Users are suspecting the defect is more common on curved screen of the LG panels that causes this.

I am personally using a mate 20 pro from November 21 batch and it comes with BOE panel and no green screen.

        • +9

Because no one uses Sony phones.

          • +2

            @zeroxp: BURN

          • -2

@zeroxp: Only Chinese using Mate 20 pro, sorry I mean 99%.
Chinese get used to be f up by their own companies. But they still claimed orgasm with pain.

        • +3

I think you're making it out to be a bigger conspiracy than it actually is.
My phone has this issue, Optus told me to bring it into a store and they'll replace it on the spot.

A lot of first run hardware can have 'teething problems', whether it be cars or technology (remember the first plasma TV's?)

          • -1

@remedycrd: My point is Huawei can’t keep silent with a serious product issue after three months. Also Samsung and apple both uses OLED before Huawei.
Samsung ‘s burning issue is much serious than the green screen but they keep updating the market even their solution is not good. Huawei is trying to hide the truth from the public, which is the worst crisis management.

    • +3

You know the other company that never respects the consumer? Apple

      • +4

Phone owners: Hey my phone became slow after the iOS upgrade.
        Apple: It is your imagination

After issue blown out of proportion with many lawsuits

Apple: The iOS automatically throttles the phone speed to prevent sudden shutdown of iPhones due to old battery. Replacement battery is available from Apple stores for $XX.

Free publicity and so much profit from replacing batteries.

      • -2

I am not saying apple is innocent, but compared to Huawei, apple is like a virgin.
First and foremost apple does not have bot, Huawei hired, hiring and will hire millions of bots. And Huawei shamelessly claiming they never hire bots. If this was true, why Huawei acknowledged the bots on bestbuy in US.
Second, Huawei always attacked the other companys’ product but most time eat its word later. They laughed at iphone’s fringes when it’s introduced but later Huawei copied the design and even claimed Huawei’s fringe is the prettiest. I can’t recall how many times Huawei attacked iPhone and Samsung, which r two much better companies. The guy in charge of Huawei mobile said they would certainly beat iPhone days after apple’s latest release. But keeps silent after the ridiculous green screen issue.
Third, Huawei does not respect its domestic consumers but kissing the western consumers’ ass. Recalled the flash memory issue in its previous release? All the phones sold in China r using the cheap memory and no compensation. Can u find any other companies treat their own people like shit?
Too much to say, please tell me which mobile company has so many seedy behavior. Three months without any official updates regarding the green screen issue, could u imagine this happened in apple, Samsung or the other companies?

    • Well, Huawei, Optus, and Vodafone have announced they will swap your phone on spot, and they did. Unfortunately, they didn't officially blame LG for supplying faulty screens for some reason. I hope they could make a public announcement that all the stocks with an LG screen have been removed from the market. That could definitely help.

LG, on the other hand, do you still remember how they treated bootlooped G4, G5, V10, NEXUS 5X? I have a G4 and that was the last LG product I will ever purchase, after a failed TV, burned washing machine, not working microwave oven, and even a mouse that went busted….

      • LG = fail, will never buy LG again.

  • +8

This is a beast of a phone. I think if you can confirm with the seller that the batch number is in November, the green screen issue should be fixed already. Best battery, fastest charging time, ultrawide camera, fast processor etc. Those complaint about data being shared to Chinese government, hmmm well, I think Facebook knows the answer better. Wish Huawei can sell more products to Australia market as I am struggling to find the 40W supercharger adapter and the supercharger car charger :'(

    • Gl finding Chinese phone charging bricks natively for Aus, best bet is to just use an adaptor which sucks

      • ?
Australian powerpoints are inverted Chinese ones.

        • What do you mean by that?

        • Chinese adaptors are usually type A with two flat prongs.

    • +7

I strongly agree with you. When we talking about privacy hacking I believe US is number 1, if they are saying Huawei is stealing the information I don't think Apple, google and facebook are any better. It's just mind game Trump is playing to stop China overtaking them

      • -1

Apple isn't an advertising company, so has no need to harvest user data.

PS my last 5 of 6 phones have been Android

    • +7

Agree, a beast of a phone with a brilliant camera (all four of them). I have the 20 X - a 7.2" phone that is remarkably easy to hold and use.

      • +1

Would have gotten the 20 X if it comes with the 3D face scan camera and ipl68.

        I love big phones.

        • +2

          … and I cannot lie

        • Yeah IP68 is a pity.

The 20X has face unlock but not 3D face unlock.

Practically this means you can unlock your phone with your face - and extremely quickly - but you can't use it for anything that requires biometric security such as online banking apps. For those you still need to use a fingerprint.

  • -7

I for one will be boycotting Huawei. I'm semi concerned about data leaks, but my primary reason for steering clear is the escalating hostage situation involving the Huawei CFO. It's all getting a bit insane.
    https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/asia_pacific/china-says…

    • +1

Different issue though. CFO was arrested because apparently she was involved with a subsidiary company that deal business with Iran despite the sanction from US.

Nothing to do with data leak as there was no proof or evidence on that until now.

      • Agreed. They data leaking and this warrant/Chinese holding Canadians hostage aren't related.
However there is a clear and well documented relationship between the Chinese Govt and Huawei, which warrants a healthy suspicion. This recent stunt of taking Canadians hostage is reason enough for me to stay away. I'm merely raising the issue for those that aren't aware of everything going on in and around this company so they can do their own research and make up their own minds. :)

        • +3

Problem is China is a police state, that means every single company in China is related to the Chinese Government, especially telco and mobile phone makers because they will want to capture the usage and monitor everyone in mainland. Kinda inevitable because the telco network/phone needs to be designed in the way that the data capture conforms to the requirement of the Government.

Now you see everything is exaggerated, to the point that the Malaysia Airline plane crash suddenly bring up so many more plane crash/malfunction news. I have a friend that works as air steward and he told me plane malfunction happens all the time on daily basis, just not reported until something big happened and media caught on to generate more news which made people paranoid.

Detained in immigration happens everyday in every airport, including Australia. I don't know who is pushing all these propaganda news about China detaining Canadian at the same time as Huawei CFO being detained in Canada and don't care if the media is riding on this to get attention by trying to "link" the cases together as China doing revenge because of the CFO arrest.

Not denying the possibility of it being real but let's not get influence so easily by the media.

    • +11

When you claim something you need evidence. If you do believe what USA says then you are an I"***t. Just like you still believe sadamm had some nuclear bombs.

      • -1

She stopped going 2 US to c her son in recent years is the best evidence 4 me. She is holding at least 5 supposed illegal passports is another evidence 4 me. I am not a big shot and only care about everyone is equal before the law.
US will show the evidence no matter true or fake to the world, let’s wait and c. Huawei will never be transparent to the public.

  • +2

    no headphone jack

    • +2

      And still $1280!

At this price point, it should cure cancer.

    • +1

Let's face it, headphone jack will be gone after a few more revision of phones. Why not adapt to it earlier for the inevitable.

      • +2

        no thanks

        • Want new phone but refuses new tech advancement. How bizarre.

          • +4

@Letrico: removing the headphone jack is not a "tech advancement" lmao

            • +2

              @harro112: Removing cables are ;)

But we end up having so many dongles thanks to Apple.

          • +2

@Letrico: It's not a tech advancement mate; it's called a trend. Just like most manufacturers who moved away from activating FM radio chips in their new phones and also getting rid of the IR (infrared) blaster…the smartphone is supposed to be as close to an "all in one" device and removing older tech like this (which is CHEAP and EASY to leave in there) makes no sense. I've LOVED using my phone as a TV, air con, set top box remote when I lose the corresponding remote in my living room. IMO, all phones should be able to do this and the 2 biggest manufacturers out there choose to avoid incorporation and skip these features in favour of the mindset "everyone should be bluetooth" and "no one needs radio, we will make them spend data and using extra apps to search for and find podcasts".

The only one I can kind of agree with is 99%+ of all wireless headsets are bluetooth ready which even some of the VERY old smartphones offer support for. Audio quality over wireless has dramatically improved over the years along with speed and battery efficiency, so I can see why THIS is one trend that makes sense to accept and adopt. Wires are annoying!

    • +2

      Mate 20 X has a headphone jack.

Plus a lot of other pros and cons. Cheaper though.

    • Yes it does. Where did you pull this from?

    • The 20 X has a headphone jack. I think the non-profit mate 20 had one too. Just missing from the pro, presumably due to IP68 rating. ( Although that shouldn't be a barrier, Samsung notes are IP68 and they have a jack)

  • No jacking RRP issue anymore with this seller?

  • True Au stock or grey import?

    • Should be true au stock

    • +2

The eBay listing wrote [AU STOCK].

  • +4

flagship phone is getting so expensive, gona stick to my 3 years old phone for many more years.

    • Just wait for the 5G phones and the new network to roll out by 2019

Weeks ago, Qualcomm already announced the snapdragon chipset which will feature in most flagship 2019 handsets with the capability…with Telstra, Optus and Avoidafone all rolling out 5G at some point in the next 12-24 months; the next $1000-1200 spend on a phone might as well be a much bigger upgrade than someone with a questionably dodgy screen (depending on where you buy) and a not-always-working face recognition or not-always-sensing under the screen fingerprint sensor; and 3 cameras. Isn't this just overkill?

  • +6

In my opinion the best phone out right now, it felt noticeably nicer than my galaxy s9. Couldn't give a crap about the alleged spying stuff. If you think other phones don't spy on you then you're delusional. Take a look at Facebook, they were caught red handed and people still log on there everyday. It's really all a fearmongering tactic

    • +4

And NSA literally have all the information including nudes and dick pics from all the messages sent in US and no one gives a damn.

  • Great phone with excellent camera, battery life and (BOE) screen. Just make sure to get a protector for screen and camera as glass is easily scratched.

  • +3

Best phone ever on the market… I am still using mate10 Pro, so this phone can still work for few years… For those are not using huawei phone, can surely have a go…

  • if u wanna spend that much why not just get an iPhone

    • +6

Cost like $500-$800 dollars more and plus only has a 12 megapixel camera not 40, 20 and 8, battery only 3700 where the M20P is 4200. Better night shots and zoom, screen finger print. This is a way better phone than an iphone and cost way less.

  • +1

Amazon reduced their price again cheaper now $1239.19 but even lower price with 10% cashrewards.
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/427541

    • Just got to get a few people buying it and giving us feedback on it. I think if everything the same with Allphones deals then worth buying from.

    • Isn't the amazon a grey stock?

      • +1

I bought earlier today and it looks like it’s being supplied through Mobileciti so local aus stock with 2 year warranty. With cashrewards i’ll be getting it for $1126.54.

        • Yep I received mine from amazon today. Checked the serial and confirmed it's a 2 year warranty :)

  • This phone is too expensive not worth it still.

Go get a Oneplus 6 and a basic DSLR and you still have change for a Xmas dinner yourself

To sell like hot cakes it needs to be under 1k

    • +1

Thats a good phone but Mate 20 Pro is a different beast all together.

    • +1

A DSLR doesn't fit in your pocket though..

      • -1

It will last longer than a Huawei phone max three years, then it will be replaced by most ppl. I don't support that lifestyle.

1.2k gets a mid range DSLR can last for several if not ten years and takes better photos.

Nothing to do with portability hence you get another with a good but not great camera for that purpose

        • Get both, why save a few hundreds…..

          • @[Deactivated]: I have both. They both have a time and place. Huawei goes everywhere with me, DSLR comes out occasionally, mirrorless for travel

            • @mingofmongo: That's the way

  • Op please also add that there is free bud promotion https://www.huaweipromotions.com.au/faqs/huawei-mate20-pro-f…

    • I think you need to claim during this period. When does this promotion begin and end?
The promotion will commence from 9:00AM (AEST) 17th October 2018 until 11:59 PM on the 31st October 2018

      • Have a look again, there is a new one expires on 15th of Jan

      • Sorry my mistake, only for Optus or Vodafone.
Here is the correct link: https://www.huaweipromotions.com.au/promotions/huawei-mate20…

        • Yeah its only for Optus and Vodaphone customers only, this is sold by Allphones.

          • @cr12330: Can't decide which deal is better. Optus or this one.

I think if I can get trs this one is no brainer

            • @[Deactivated]: The 20% coupon is over at the moment but won't be long until it comes back again since it becomes active again soon, you can claim TRS within 60 days of travel, Allphones do a tax invoice. If you can go without the freebuds and 15W wireless chargers, you can pick up the freebuds in an ebay auction for under $100 dollars and the 15W charger for under $50 dollars, if you really need them.

        • You might want to put this promo in the forum sections so others know about it.

  • Still over $1100 and no solution in sight for the first batch of screen duds showing up in multiple countries?

I'm flabbergasted. Should be $990 by now… especially since you cannot properly root the device and 'truly' do whatever you want with it….

    • The P20 Pro still charging the RRP price around the $1100, so hard to see this dropping that low soon.

    • Can't root? Why?

  • +1

Received my new phone from Allphones…
Mine has the new revised BOE screen to fix the well known green screen issue but after 1 day…
