HP DV6-3131TX i5-460 ATI-5650 500GB HDD 4GB DDR3 Bluetooth HDMI $749 DSE (Instore Only)

130

$50 cheaper than the last time is was on Ozbargain. Picked it up last time and it's a great all round laptop for the price. Easily plays Mirror's Edge with everything maxed . Saw it last weekend still at RRP over at Harvey Norman Garden City Mt Gravatt (typical HN).

Also may be able to get a further 5% off at OW.

From what I could find it's still $990+ at JB and searching static ice and getprice.

  • anyone know how much for extended warranty?

    • +2

I don't know how any OzBargainer could ask that question seriously. Extended warranty is DEFINITELY NEVER value-for-money. It's usually in most retailers POS systems at 80% margin (or more! sometimes 100%).

      • +2

i asked because it is hp…

it was my lame attempt at saying unreliable…

    • Remember that some Gold and Platinum credit cards (also NAB Gold Banking debit card) offer free extended warranty just for making the purchase on the card.

A NAB Gold Banking account costs $10 per month and you'll get the Gold Visa debit card quite quickly.

  • How about OW then?

    • Doesn't look like Offies stock this model.

  • Paid $950 for this from Harvey Norman ~3 months ago. Great laptop.

  • Apart from the better graphics, how does this compare to the Lenovo Edge 15? Are you trading features for build quality?

    • -1

Be careful picking anything remotely high-power with HP - they don't seem to cope all that well with the heat.

      • They are no different to any other upper market laptop… "they dont like having the air vents blocked"! If placed so they can ventilate as designed they perform perfectly.
My HP has performed perfectly for the past 18 months and has travelled o/s several times as well. I would openly rate them above Toshiba and Lenovo.

        • I suppose that might explain why a HP propped up on its 8-cell battery on a desk managed to idle at 60 degrees C and load at 90+ degrees C before dying. No, HP makes certain design decisions such as the use of a thermal pad rather than thinking through the heatsink assembly. The result: aftermarket heatsink add-ons on Ebay and threads full of people asking about how to reflow their northbridge BGA package.

  • I've seen this in Officeworks on Clearance in store for around $950 (even though it's not listed on the website). so this is a pretty good price.
I guess you can try price match at OW and get a further 5% off! :D

  • thank you, just scored one at jb hifi price matched :D

  • sooo tempted !!!!

  • Is an AMD N970 a better CPU in comparison to i5-460M ???
I am asking because i am comparing this deal (3131TX) to a 3206AX

I am getting mixed reports on google regarding cpu benchmarking seems the N970 is better cpu benchmark than the 460M
But am confused because someone told me an AMD N970 is equiv. to an i3?

    can someone clarify??

    • The N970 is a quad core CPU and is more in line with the i5.

      I'd go the AMD.

  • You'll see a lot of this type of laptop getting run out(1st Gen Intel i5/i7). 2nd Gen Intel chips(sandy bridge) out now!

    • How do you tell which is first gen and which is sandy bridge? Is there any easy way?

      • +3

the second part of the cpu model will be 4 digits if its second gen. (eg. i7-2600) as opposed to 3 digits if it is first gen (eg. i7-870)

        • Cheers, thanks :-)

  • awesome deal.. all outta stock in NSW DSE. Will try jb for price match if they got any in stock.
    OW dont stock these.

  • MOFO jb in the Gallaries Victoria didn't do the price match but tried me out at $850.
I called in and confirmed that they have it in stock and can do the price match as long as it's from a retail store.
When I actually walked in to grab one they asked me whether I was buying any other softwares with it or only the laptop itself stand alone. I said only the laptop and they refused to accept the price match. What a liar make me walk all the way and changes their wording when I got there.
I did show them the DSE deal on the link and the guy said "If we do it at this price there's nothing left on it". Shoulda said this earlier could've saved them from becoming a liar to the customer and I wasted my time.

You should have asked to speak with a manager. If that failed I would have made a report to Fair Trading.

I hate companies with dishonest price match policies.

      • I didn't know you could report it to the fair trading.
Anyway I wouldn't want to waste my time and effort to these liars.

  • I have a core2Duo DV6, I was wondering does this one come with a TV tuner & or remote. Mine came with 2 remotes (one in the express card slot) and a larger one.

Might consider upgrading if this has those features, or at least the infra-red receiver built in, so I can use the existing remote
