Takes Groupon some time to deliver sims. Need to activate it next week? Not any time for Groupon to get its shit together

    • +2

      Amaysim sends you the sim

      • +2

I purchased a Kogan SIM card from a Groupon deal last year. Was sent by Groupon (and took ~3 weeks). How is this any different?

        • +3

Totally different deal. What you're buying from Groupon here is simply a voucher. The SIMs are sent by amaysim.

      • I just completed an order and received the groupon coupn already. However, nowhere to put in delivery address for sim card - the order is considered completed upon payment by PayPal. Any advice?

    • +2

I don't know if it has changed but I have had several of these offers, last one 3 weeks back. With mine you get the Groupon code (which came through instantly). Go to the Amaysim site, and add a service like normal and then send the sim the same day. From memory you can pay $10 to Express Post it as well.

That has been my experience anyway; instant code from Groupon, activate on Amaysim who sends the sim card

  • Hmmm, does anyone know if they(Amaysim) allows a reuse of old Amaysim sim chips? I have a couple of old sims lying around (number have been ported to Kogan/Lebrara)

    • +2

Can't reuse old sims, but you could possibly go buy a $2 Amaysim kit from Officeworks and activate with this deal, assuming Groupon email the activation code to you rather than sending it on a bit of paper with the sim.

I've had spare (unused) Kogan sims sitting around, and activated them with an emailed Kogan code before Kogan sent me another sim in the mail.

    • +1

spare(unused) sims are ok, but NOT used(previously activated) sims.

    • Do you get 4x renewal vouchers for Amaysim? Or a code to sign up a new account which comes with 4 renewals included?

      • One voucher code comes with 4 renewals included. Then you need enter the code in to your new/imported amaysim account, where "Promo Code" is.

Read the Groupon "How To Redeem" instruction for the steps.

  • can you use this code for other deals on Groupon?

    • No.. It is only for Amaysim

  • +1

Is this deal NOT selling well?

It's the same Groupon deal 3 weeks ago, only with extra 30% off, isn't it?

  • +1

Currently with amaysim - can this deal be used by porting out to another provider & reporting in? Thanks

    • Going to try this tonight and see if it works

  • Noob question, I’m currently on the 6-month 1GB prepaid thingy from the last Ozbargain deal and it’s running out.

I’d like to stick with Amaysim, but I heard it’s only for new customers, which can be circumvented by porting out, then in.
How do I exactly do that process? I’ve never done it before.

    • +1

I am on the same 6 month deal and am planning to port out and back in. Last time I ported out to Telstra on a $2 SIM from Woolies.

      • yeah i am glad i checked on here when i signed up for that 6 months deal, the plan runs out in 3 days and would of been charged $10 for the next renewal i put my mum on, she doesn't use any of the data i just checked last months usage was 9mb and 4 calls, i wonder if there is a better plan to put her on i can't be bothered looking though and for $9 i think i will just do the telstra port out and back onto amaysim thing.

    • Buy a cheap Telstra or Vodafone SIM from the supermarket, sign up with that SIM and port your number to it, once it is ported to Telsta/Vodafone then sign up to Amaysim again and port the number back to them.

      • The only issue (IIRC) is that you need to port to another (non-Optus) carrier before you can activate the voucher and port out to Amaysim. I think you need to name your existing carrier. So, if using a cheap $2 Telstra SIM, you'll be a few days without credit. Correct me if I'm wrong… the last time I did this I vaguely remember spending $5 on a telstra top-up to get me through until I could port back to Amaysim. I didn't think it was worth the hassle, personally…

        • Mid last year I ported out of Amaysim using a free Telstra sim, bought a $2 Amaysim sim from a supermarket and activated the new service via chat using a promo code. The port out and port in happened in a few hours.

      • +1

or an aldimobile $5 if you want a (tiny) bit of usable credit for emergency

      • I found some old Kogan and Vodafone Sims. Would these work?

        • Maybe. :D Try and let us know :)

          • @bdl: Well, Kogan's website won't show the address correctly (on many browsers) and Vodafone requires a $10 recharge on top.

What Sim/Carrier offers activation without recharging?

  • Can these be stacked eg. Buy 3 to get 12 months?

    • no because you need to activate SIM before 24th Jan 2019

  • Will this stack with 10% sitewide discount?

  • +1

I typically buy these for the new number to put into my spare phone to get $10 UberEats vouchers.

  • +1

Dammit I entered the code CR30 and Checked out through PayPal but I was charged $9.95 but oh wells

    • If it doesn't work, log out, delete cache/cookies for that website. Don't log in with same email, pick one you haven't used with that website. Log in/sign up, and the code works ;)

  • Is it possible to port from Boost Mobile to Amaysim?

    • +1

yes, easy - different networks (Telstra -> Optus)

  • I have had amaysim briefly a few months ago but with another service ATM. Hoping I would be classed as new customer

  • Can someone please explain to me what 2.5GB, yet unlimited means? Does it mean it throttles after 2.5GB?

  • unlimited calls and text, Auz only, data is limited

  • If I enter the details of the number I want to port in when I order, when does it start the process? I want to port my number but I don't want it to do it yet- ie. until I receive the SIM and activate it.

    • +1

Not now. I just ported in from Catch, and it will not be done until I activate the Amaysim SIM.

      • Awesome, thanks.

      • I'm getting an error message telling me to contact Live Chat - also trying to port from Catch.

Have you ever had the same problem? Cheers :)

  • Does it take long to port from optus?

  • the link for 'how to redeem' takes me to a $20 plan. do i have to go to that plan or is there any other way to redeem the offer?

  • noob question! is this for ONE month or FOUR months (4 x 28 days?) i just do not understand that

    • Four months.

      • Thanks mate.

So, i will be able to use this SIM until April (just with 6.97??)

And de-activate the auto-recharge function after that?

        • Yes, well early May, since we're in early January now.

Don't turn off auto-renewal, as the card is needed to automatically apply the voucher at the end of the month (in lieu of charging the card). Only turn it off at the very end of the 4 months.

  • post deleted

  • Another noob question - I just ported to Telstra and will need to port back into amaysim. To be a 'new customer', Do I need a new email account, or should I log into my old one?

  • So I think I'm screwed but I'll just ask here in case anyone has any ideas - I'm currently on the last deal they did (1gb plan x 6 for $10) and it's due to expire in a week. I just purchased this figuring when the sim arrives I'll port out to a $2 Telstra sim and then port back to Amaysim. Only, when I went to just redeem the Groupon voucher, it won't complete the process because it says I'm already a Amaysim customer. I can't go get a $2 Telstra sim because it won't have any credit so I won't be able to use my phone until the Amaysim sim arrives sometime next week. Any suggestions or do I just try to get a refund from Groupon.

    • just get a $10 sim and port it

  • Does the 4 months start from date of purchase/registration on Amaysim online or from when I get my sim in the post and activate the sim?

    • The former, when you order the new sim (after inserting the Groupon code).

      • That’s bad isnt it? It takes days for the sim card to arrive.

        • Took four business days to arrive. Downside is that you can’t call or text during that time, since that number would be in a $2 sim, waiting to be ported over.

  • having issues porting out/back in my guess is cause i ported out on the weekend it hasn't fully ported to telstra till Monday , trying to redeem the groupon voucher on new application it accepts it but once i put in my paypal details it spits me back to a 500 error page plus i can stil login to my old amaysim account on the number im trying to keep but it doesn't let me view the plan that number is on anymore, i wonder what time on the 14 i have till to redeem the groupon voucher

are you able to select new number on the application but then choose to transfer number once sim card actually arrives?

    • You’re supposed to redeem the Groupon voucher after porting to Telstra, not during or before. Just wait until Monday.

Also, use a new email address.

  • Anyone still waiting on their sim card to arrive?

    • Still waiting.

  • Thanks for purchasing a Groupon for the amaysim deal. We can't wait for you to enjoy this amazing experience but before you do, we have an important update to bring you.

To allow you more time to to redeem your voucher and to ensure that you don't miss out, the merchant has kindly extended the redemption date of your voucher until 17 Jan 2019 and the activation is until 28 Jan 2019.
