  • I love Sophos. I use their Enterprise grade products and they're flawless with seriously good ransomware detection. The Home stuff is also very good at stopping threats from my tests and in my opinion far better than the resource heavy alternatives offered by Bitdefender, AVG etc.

      • I haven't heard about that. Hopefully it's similar to the deep learning capabilities in Intercept X?

        • Sounds similar only for Windows tho
Artificial Intelligence - Evaluates files before they even run and stops brand new, never-before-seen, "zero-day" attacks in milliseconds.

          • @asa79: Yep that's what Intercept X is using and it's just another name for behaviour based detection that everyone should have.

    • Wow ive had the exact oposite experience.

Im an admin for a company using the enterprise version also.

InterceptX is…. Good… but the extra cost doesnt equate to the features; good network tools from cisco/meraki already offer similar logging at a lower level, and the rest of the behavior based stuff is 'common' in all of the av offerings imo.

When browsers start swapping to hdd, we get endless "ROP prevented" false positives.

Their purchase of hitmanpro has lead to 10's of false positives on XLS documents that are pre office 2003 created, as cryptolockers (whyyyy!?)

Having no way to clean up threats from within SophosCentral is a bloody joke.

And we went over 16 months of the app reporting updates happening, until i looked at the database file manually, and noticed it hadnt the whole time!

On the plus side, detection rates are A+++, but to achieve this, the number of false positives are frustrating.

      But different strokes, different folks.

Im glad someone is having a good time with it.

      • I generally have Intercept X running with their hardware solutions like the UTMs and everything seems to integrate better. The false positives are probably the worst problem I'm having with the product. Though my issues are more to do with video streaming, e.g. Foxtel being blocked. I've yet to roll it out to clients who do have pre Office 2003 documents so I'll be curious to see how that goes.

In terms of detection it's definitely a winner. Throwing ransomware against it compared to Bitdefender, Windows Defender and all those other yucky AVs people like to use it comes on top everytime.

        • How do you deal with detections efficiently?

          As an example;

We get an email alert that a detection happened.

We get alerted it cant be cleaned.

Since sophos central doesnt seem to have any actions once a 'clean' fails….

We log into the machine via VNC or RDP depending if its in use.

The antivirus has 'locked' the file, so you cant delete it without disabling real time protection.

You go into sophos central again and disable tamper protection.

You want ANOTHER 10 minutes for the client to notice this change.

You disable the AV, delete the file, and re enable the av again.

Detection rates are tops, false positives are many, but they've generally put ZERO effort into how to deal with a detected threat!

          Advice at all?

      • Alot of products have false positives until you tune it to suit. Example at home I have to exclude calibre

        • Yeah, executables make sense.
          But macro-less doecuments, do not.

Been using MacBook for over 10 years now and never ran any sort of Malware, Antivirus, Ransomware programs however due to the nature of technology and reliance on the web these days I've come to the conclusion I should protect my data.

I've been having some issues with my email lately sending out spam, a couple attempts at changing my IG accounts, even Microsoft account, have since changed most things to 2FA, and Internode have since made me change my password on two occasions. Often receiving mailer daemon spam, although I've since signed up to Bitdefender, Malwarebytes and Avast it appears to be 'under control' - I'm considering getting Sophos before the other licenses run out, would this be sufficient for both my MacBook and Windows laptop (SB2) on it's own?

    Thanks for any advice/ suggestions.

    • The free version covers 3 machines and basic functions, so that might be worth testing the waters before purchasing a full licence

Main issue I see with Sophos is its uninstaller. It happily installs many many services and registry entries however if one tries to remove, it's far from fun. It's like the developers didn't include a proper uninstaller that will remove things. So much is left behind……not good Sophos. Fine for those that are happy with product as no uninstall required.

    • Given that similar issue with most applications

      • Nothing came close to the shocking uinstallers of Sophos. As noted, not an issue for those that plan on sticking to Sophos.

        • That's true once on need need to change

        • In my experience disabling tamper protection properly makes the uninstallation process much smoother.

  • For anyone who used the beta they are offering a 30% discount. Check your emails.

    • This does calculate as 30% off.

    • Same price for both

      • Just got to work and checked. The 30% discount is the same price as the OP.

        • I had same email and then noticed that they offering for everyone. Don't feel so special any more
