Didn't know you can play Super Mario Bros on PlayStation Classic

    • +2

You can play Ridge Racer on SNES classic. Runs better too!

    • Better than quite a few of the "Classics" that Sony actually picked. Just as well it's easy to hack.

    still $79.98 too much.

Bleemsync 0.7 should be out any day now and should make this worthwhile for those interested.

Saw this the other day in there. Me and the missus walked in while at Eastland, signed up to a year, walked around the store for a good half hour or so, cancelled our memberships. Can't see the point of Costco tbh, there was 3 things in there cheaper than the usual every other week specials at Coles/Woolies (they had some cheap milk, roast chooks for a whole 2 bucks less than the competition and a third thing not good enough to remember). Their games selection was piss poor too and the prices, again, higher than the average special.

But the reason I didn't post was I wasn't sure how that "instant rebate" worked, being an inexperienced Costco-er. Do you have to upfront the full thing and get it back on your card or do they give you a gift card or what? Either way, thought the price was nothing special considering all the recent deals around (and lower than) the same price, that don't require a $60 per year membership to get.

    • Its automatic.

Yes you wouldn't buy Games at Costco - TV's, meat, fruit, nappies, cleaning products, gift cards, eye-contacts and Fuel…but not Games - they are not worth it.

      • Don't buy a tele every other week, but are they significantly cheaper regularly? And name brand only or what, Aldi have cheap teles, but Aldi have shit teles so.

Meat looked about the same prices as the supermarkets, but can't speak to the quality.

Fruit, boi, I'm the most carnivorous (profanity) you'll ever meat (heheh), I don't even get lettuce on my KFC, let alone actively buy fruit / vegies.

Nappies would be great if we didn't just get the kiddo toilet trained completely over the last few months. Shit.

Gift cards for what, themselves? Or do they sell 50 dollar JB cards for 40, etc.

Eye contacts, well, maybe in 50 years when my eyes fail me, but right now, I can't comment at all, so I'll just have to give you that one.

        Mine doesn't do fuel.

That's what annoys me, there'd been so many good deals posted for games on here I figured wow, they must be giving the other department stores a run for their money…apparently not.

        • Fair comment:
Most TV's at least $50-$100 off JB hifi costs: LG OLED/Samsung/Sony Panasonic every brand - boom one years membership done - everything else after that bonus.(True how many years do we buy a TV - one year TV - one Year Tyres - one year fridge - one year Washer/dryer - each one of these big items offset the yearly $60 and then all else is a bonus)

Meat quality better then supermarket (but personal opinion)
Fruit - yea mostly for the little guy too
Nappies- we'll be not needing them soon too! (I hope)
Gift cards - $50 iTunes for $38 on special about every 3 months / plus Australia zoo/other places.
Any Costco account would give discount fuel.
Tyres - about $40 total less then local (moss St BNE) quotes and regular rotation/checks for free every time we go.

True though - I wouldn't buy Coke there, or Dog food, and there are times that there are random other things, Tinned Fish/Noodles/Sauces/Seasonings that aren't worth it.

Typically though, as others have said - group with a family and split the larger items into two families purchases and will be better.

Ultimately - each to their own - these things combined equal-out the yearly $60 for us……

Heck I still go to the local Coles when we need to.

OH and yes the warranty - if not abused - if you keep your membership, you keep a warranty beyond the 1 year.

It depends how you shop. If you monitor the weekly Colesworth or IGA specials at 50% or more off and buy these specials in bulk yes Costco is not worth it. If you have a larger family or you don't have the time/effort to shop the ozbargain way then Costco maybe for you.

There's also the added incentive of a Costco "treasure hunt" or exclusives no other store has. Another benefit being extended warranty as long as you prolong your membership.

Tbh I think Costco should market their memberships better and view it as an "entry fee". If you went monthly then your "entry fee" is only $5 per visit. Maybe they should also offer installment payments for memberships. But then they wouldn't get all their membership revenue up front which is how their business model works.

If you have a larger family or you don't have the time/effort to shop the ozbargain way then Costco maybe for you.

This is it for me. I have 5 kids so the ability to buy in bulk and larger sizes is amazing and I find their quality of meats in particular to be beyond anything better than the supermarkets at the same price point.

      • I have a defacto missus, and an almost 3 year old kiddo. Meal wise we'll usually do pretty basic stuff when everyone's eating it (I'm an actual child who doesn't eat vegetables, the kiddo is a bit picky at times, and the missus isn't a fan of any meat if it's not in spag or a burger), pick up a couple packs pasta from the shop, kilo of mince, some sauce, around ten bucks or so and we'll all get a few days out of that no probs.

I'm aware it's all subjective, I'm glad Costco works for you, but the reason I'm laying out that intro bit is to kinda put out where we're at. Doesn't seem worth it to us

I like the idea at the bottom too. I'd quite like if you sign up for a free card right, and then whenever you rock up you have to pay X amount to go in and do your shop. That way you could check the catalogues, plan ahead, and maximise your shit. I just don't like the straight 60 buck drop, makes me feel obligated to shop there to recoup it (which is obviously part of their planning), and then I'm gonna be a bitter little bitch every time I'm in there.

      Costco is good for bulk.

A mate of mine runs small groups throughout the week. He gets all the sausages, rolls, bread, drinks, coffee and tea in bulk much cheaper at Costco than at Woolies, Coles etc.

      • Could definitely see that being good, but I didn't notice any significant value in there for that sort of stuff anyway. Bought some burgers at Coles yesterday, saw their snags, normal price was I think 8 bucks for 24 of them, 1.4 kilos or so. That's crazy good as an every day deal.

IMHO you shouldn’t have rushed to cancel the membership as you can cancel it at any time within 365 days and still get a full refund.
Costco is not your everyday or weekly shop. Our family shops from there once every 2-3 months.
      Things to consider:
      Cheap fuel
Cheap meals/takeaway food at the cafe.
      Amazing and cheap cakes/Birthday cakes.
Cheap finger food platters, ideal for parties.
Cheap electronics. They often have awesome deals on TVs.
Last month I got my son’s xmas present from there. A Yamaha sea scooter for $230($320-500 elsewhere)
The Vornado 660 fan costs $149, and there are plenty of other deals posted on OZB
I agree with you not everything is cheap, but if you have a big family or you are sharing with friends you can find lots of great deals at Costco

Don't look at this as me picking a fight or anything, it's just a healthy discussion, but

        Mine doesn't have fuel
        If I'm out and want takeaway it's a $5 McDonald's deal, or 21 for 4 burgers, 3 chips and 2 1.25s from KFC
Don't eat cakes much and the odd birthday we do, a basic ass mudcake from Coles does it.
Probably cool, but I hate people so won't be doing parties.
That's nice and all, but how often do you buy a TV?
Can't comment on the scooter or Vornado.

The only thing I buy in bulk consistently is Coke. Preferably the caffeine and sugar free varient, and it hits 6.15 pretty much every other week for a 10 pack, ie, 18.45 for 30. In Costco it was around 25 or so (I believe more honestly, but could be wrong) for 36 and they weren't even the caffeine free. If I'm just getting standard sugar free cola, I could just grab a 30 pack of Pepsi Max every other week for 14 bucks in Coles/Woolies/Big W/whoever is on sale.

Each to their own I guess, there’s quite a few food items we buy regularly from Costco that are cheaper than anywhere else (egg whites, chicken, hommus, almond butter). Our Costco has fuel, and it’s always the cheapest around. Their food items can be great for when you’re hosting family or friends - their BBQ chickens are way bigger than the supermarkets and cheaper, their pizzas are huge and good quality, they do family size salads, platters etc. The take away food is very popular with the…heavier built population.

I picked up a PlayStation VR for $149 in October, and although my local stores game selection is never huge, they always have the latest releases for as cheap as anywhere else, or cheaper. They also tend to run out older games for cheap too.
