Don't waste your money on type-C; type-D will be here in about 20 years.

I plug these into my TV if i dont feel like paying for my NAS on 24/7.

      These are perfect.

I bet you were still using 5 1/4" floppy disks in 1999, that's if you weren't in nappies still.

      • Huh? In 1999 basically only Macs had USB, because once again, Apple was leading the way, where as PCs were dragging their feet with old tech.

As for floppy disks, got my first USB drive in 2000 in high school. It was 32meg. But I wasn’t wearing nappies, so I guess you’re partially right…

    • It's great for the majority of things that use USB A

  • Nice, thinking I will get the 128GB version for $38.97 for my Shield TV.

    • Don't forget to add shipping cost to it.

      • I have Prime. As long as I'm still buying something at least once/month I'll keep it for now, tends to pay for itself.

Ohhhhhhhhh, Amazon US sourced. Good point, that's a no deal for me then.

That's a different type of USB.

      That's also $49.99 USD not $70 AUD

      It's also the US site.

Buy it and see how much you pay.

Hack a Wii U, stick this in it's back side loaded with game images.

    • Don’t they recommend not putting usbs in Wii u?

      • Oh yeah, but I don't mind, as I have the game images on a storage device, if it does fail in a few years I'll just transfer to a new USB. In the mean time, I'll have a much nicer looking setup that makes it a little less difficult for the kids to mess up.

        Really? Why?

        • They are extremely unreliable and most eventually fail. This is also Nintendo’s official recommendation.

  • Overheating issues I presume?

  • Just looking for other posters opinions. Sister recently got a 128gb Laptop and obviously she will need some additional storage (preferably smallest physical sized option). What do OZB's recommend? I'm currently tossing up between a 128gb USB like the one OP posted/Ultra Fit, or one of those Sandisk (etc) Micro SD's with SD adapter that come on sale periodically (up to 400gb).

    Any thoughts people?

    • I went with the micro SD option, mainly because its tidier. I did have to buy a custom SD adapter so it would sit flush because the SD slot is not full depth on my surface book 2. I rarely use the SD slot for reading other cards. Can't comment on the speed difference versus USB and whether it would be noticeable in real life

    • A USB flash like this one should outperform all microSD cards.

Upgrading the internal SSD to 256gb would best in terms of performance/size and not much more expensive. e.g. Samsung 860 EVO M.2 SATA SSD 250GB

  • Makes me wish the MacBook Pro had a type a port

      Think you meant to say
"Makes me wish the MacBook Pro had a port"

      • My MacBook Pro has 4 Type C ports. Nice try at being edgy but.

    • Isn't there a TypeA to Type C converter?

      • Lots but then you can't leave it plugged in :/

  • This, or the Sandisk 256GB Ultra Fit USB 3.1 for $79.94?

    • +1

Samsung claimed twice faster speed. I'm not sure if it's true in practise.

    • Showing me $71 atm.

    • Not that. Read the amazon.com reviews. Regarding "locking" (due to overheating?) and the plastic breaking while the drive is inside your pc (which just happened with my 64gb ultra fit actually)

If you can deal with USB2 speeds you can probably solve the former issue. But then what's the point?

    • Huh?

    • Yes. Absolutely.

  • has anyone compared this to the PNY deal?

    • What PNY deal?

  • Great post OP. Got one for my the shield.
