Recommend Me a Plant

Hi all,

Relatively new to the world of plant selection. I'm planting out the garden bed at the front of the house and am chasing a plant to compliment some English box.

Key requirements:
- no taller than 1m
- blooms white flowers
- must tolerate full sun
- relatively easily available in Aus

More or less just hoping to compile a list that I can research.

Thanks!

Goes well with a nice bit of English box

    • flowers are whitish…
      .

  • Weeds

  • I'm not the gardener in my house but agapanthus are very hardy with white or purple flower varieties. If you know someone with some you can dig a bunch out and replant and they'll go fine. I think some councils in Vic have declared them a weed, but we haven't had trouble with them spreading or anything.

    • Avoid! :)

    • Gardenia
    • Snowflake
    • Brunfelsia

    Murraya or Gardenia.

Not a fan of English box, but look at some natives that fit your requirements and would compliment them: Diplarrena, Eriostemon (masses of small white flowers), Libertia paniculata (very tough), Kunzea.

Or why not ditch the box and put in all low maintenance, low growing natives and enjoy bird visits.
    Happy gardening

  • Not really what you are looking for but have you considered a tomato plant or something else that you can eat? For me I have no interest in the plants in my garden except the ones I can eat.

  • Camelia
    White lilac

  • If you are from Victoria the cooler weather (normally cooler :)) probably would be ideal for roses? White under your height req

  • Thank you all for suggestions! Heaps of plants mentioned that I hadn't even heard of let alone considered.

This is why I love this website :)
