Hi all,

I was browsing Booktopia and saw that the Tintin collection has 45% off which come to about $7.8 per book.

Please note that it has long waiting time. My order has a note "This item has been ordered from our supplier and will ship from Booktopia within 15 business days. " so it will take a while to arrive.

There are other Tintin collection on the site

https://www.booktopia.com.au/the-adventures-of-tintin-collec…
and
https://www.booktopia.com.au/the-tintin-collection-herge/pro…

but they are the smaller format.

Cheers

Read it as a kid, never picked up the smoking habit.

      • +2

Ooh, did you opt for opium instead?

    • +11

      valuable input as always mate

        • +3

I have and never once smoked.

        • +2

          I have. Have you?

    • +2

      It's for 1940's kids.

      • +1

They've had to revise it numerous times to get the racist components out of it (ie. "N" word etc). Themes are still there though

      • And… maybe.. kids growing up in
orthodox / conservative / Amish, etc.
        communities.

Hey, even JW.org don't encourage mem-
bers to Vote in elections ('dunno if
they need to pay fines for not voting,
        due to their religious beliefs…

Do Quakers vote? They'd be exempt, I
        think… right?)

    • -3

I'll hazard a guess and suggest you're a conservative religious person (because you voted no in the same-sex marriage plebiscite, but even non-religious folks voted no) - having said that, have you recently explored ANY religious text (that I'm sure you'd have absolutely no qualms about showing to children?)

    • Very funny comment, almost everyone dont get it.

    • Booko:

All Prices in AU$ (Lowest was just now: under ~AU$130)

All-red cover… compact edition? Not same or UK red?, maybe?

  • +3

Full price seems a bit much. Discounted price seems.. ok.

Abebooks have it for US$ 113.94 shipped, which works out to about $160

    • +1

Charges US$25 for shipping unless I am missing something.

Edit - My bad. Total included the shipping.

Edit - I was about to buy and realized that GST is calculated later. Which makes US$125.33. Still makes it cheaper than Booktopia, but marginally.

Does anyone know if a similar full collection like this exists for Asterix?

  • +2

Fyi, doesn't seem like any of these have Tintin in the Congo

    • +4

It appears that a different publisher holds the rights to it. This set is published by Egmont but the only versions of Tintin in the Congo I can find are published by Casterman.

    • +1

If you are happy with a digital version, Tintin in the Congo is available in the "Adventures of Tintin" app on the apple store, or alternatively Google Play for approximately $7.

    • +12

      Did someone call me?

    • +1

      Yeah, that's hard to find.

The Blue Lotus (anti-Japanese) and Tintin in the Land of the Bolsheviks (anti-Communist) are often excluded for fear of offending modern sensibilities.

      • Better be nice to the communists

        • Better be nice to the winnie the pooh.

    • +4

If you like to download in PDF instead.
      Read Tintin BlogSpot

      • Bookmarked, thx.

  • "Please note that it has long waiting time. My order has a note "This item has been ordered from our supplier and will ship from Booktopia within 15 business days. " so it will take a while to arrive."

That's what they said about a piano lesson book I had to buy for my son. Arrived in 3 days.

    • +1

I’ve had the opposite experience. Wait time was a few months for one order, another two were cancelled.

          • @Diji1: You all need to stop acting the goat

      • Blistering barnacles in a thundering typhoon! Lol!

  • +6

Cheers, grabbed the box set and Tintin in the Congo separately to complete it :)

  • Wish there was an Asterix series in boxed sets.. I'd lap that..

    • +12

Tintin and Asterix made my childhood!

      • Calvin and Hobbes?
        Footrot Flats?
I suppose they weren't the same novel type of stories as Tintin and Asterix

      • Bloody Asterix books are so expensive.. $15 each.. Where's the boxed set? lol

      • +2

My school library also had Iznogoud

        • "I want to be Caliph instead of the Caliph!"
  • +4

I just went hunting for the 1991 Adventures of Tintin TV series. Couldn't find it anywhere in all the usual torrent places.

Turns out that all 3 seasons are on Netflix!

  • How do you get free shipping? I must be missing something..

    • +2

Yeah I noticed that it didnt apply free shipping via OP's link either.

To get free shipping with booktopia you need to click through via booko.com.au, works for all of their books (I've never paid for shipping on booktopia orders).

https://booko.com.au/9781405294577/Tintin-Paperback-Boxed-Se… (Same link as KevinL posted above).

      • Thanks! Works a treat - I must remember that one :D

        • I wasn't that keen on TinTin but had other ones in my cart

  • Awesome! I still have nearly all of these boxed away somewhere - was a massive Tintin fan as a kid. They cost more per book even back then, so good deal.

  • +2

Clearly they choose the wrong packaging…. The Adventures of TinTin Tin

    • the deal even not buying.
      what a memory…
  • I wonder if they do the box set of teeside tintin

  • -2

    $170 bargain. Must get 10

  • +1

$147 for the hard back on Amazon AU, shipped by Amazon US. free shipping with prime.

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Adventures-Tintin-Collectors-Gift-…

Only thing I note is the description says 21 books. Is this a different version to the Booktopia version ?

    • +5

Very. The one in the deal consists of big A4 (roughly) sized, individual books. The Amazon one is about half the size and a little small to read pleasantly. I own the Amazon set.

      • +1

        Excellent thanks for clarifying!

  • Love it when I was a kid, couldn't stop reading.

  • +3

An excellent bargain, to be precise!

  • +1

    Dont act the goat!

  • +1

Does anyone know if this or Asterix has become available in an electronic format? I’m more interested in the latter. I’ve already got the complete Asterix paperback collection (as well as all the about 50 Asterix figurines, that are approx 15cm tall each) but they’re stored away…

  • +4

The kind of book that needs to read in physical format

    • +4

I agree, I have them on my tablet but I end up needing to zoom in and pan around the page to enjoy it properly. Much nicer in the large format books where the text is easy to read :)

  • Cheers OP! I was a massive Tintin fan when I was growing up, grabbed the box set :)

  • +1

Going off KevinL's link, AbeBooks has this a little cheaper? https://booko.com.au/9781405294577/Tintin-Paperback-Boxed-Se…

  • thanks OP, great price for the full size collection
