Broke my phone in Europe with 2 months left of travel. Should I buy something expensive or cheap?

[Post resolved and edited. Mods please delete!]
Problem: Student that is currently in Malta for the next 2 weeks then travelling in Europe for the next 2 months. I broke my Samsung Galaxy S5 unexpectedly.
What's it like to buy a phone in Europe? Is it more expensive than in Australia? I'd be looking for a midrange Android ~$500-$700 ideally.
Should I just wait til I'm back in Australia? Should I just buy a cheaper phone to tide me over?

UPDATE:
I've decided to borrow the old phone (which is newer than my S5) of a friend arriving in 2-3 weeks time, and will go without one in the interim. I will buy one once I get back to Australia.
Thanks for all the helpful advice.
P.S. I hope the surly ones who had nothing constructive or positive to post a great new year, because you're hilarious

  • Depends on what you use your phone for. If you'll be taking lots of photos on the trip then maybe worth getting a good phone. If you mainly just use messaging and calls then just get a cheap one then worry about it once you're back.

  • You can get a Galaxy note 8 off Amazon UK for less than $700 https://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Galaxy-Note-SM-N950F-Smartp… or a Motorola g6 for $300. I found most stores to be quite expensive however I bought a phone from Curry's on sale. France and Spain both seemed quite expensive when I was living there except for the really budget shit

    • Good suggestion! thanks.

Should I buy something expensive or cheap?

Compare the prices there to back home and if you can or not wait till you get home to buy.

If the price is about the same and you can't wait, then buy in europe.

The only thing, is the Europe phone might not have Australian warranty.

    • Yeah that was my biggest concerns, region locks, bands, and warranty if I was going to buy a more expensive phone.

seriously……. you posting for advice on this minor issue…..doesnt anyone want to think for themselves anymore

……………"I am a millennial. Generation Y, born between the birth of aids and 9/11 give or take. They call us the Global Generation. We are known for our entitlement and narcissism. Some say it's because we're the first generation where every kid gets a trophy just for showing up. Others think it's because social media allows us to post whenever we fart or have a sandwich for all the world to see"

    • Take your pills Grandpa.

    • To you it's a minor issue.
But for someone who is overseas in an unfamiliar country without a phone, on a limited budget, it helps to canvas what options are best.

This is a forum to ask for opinions on a topic.
No one asked for your generalized overarching opinion of the younger generation. The same generation that populates a large majority of this website.
I hope your friends/family/colleagues will never have to ask for your help, because it appears that the years have made you bitter. I hope that whenever you also ask for help either online or in-store, you're not faced with a non-helpful rant from the younger generation complaining why you can't just google the solution instead.
The fact you decided to reply with negativity instead of just ignoring my post is sad, but I appreciate the effort. It reminds me in life that there are some people who deliberately go out of their own way to show you that they're not nice human beings.
Thanks for taking your time to reply, and I hope you don't get a cramp from shaking your fist in the air for too long in that rocking chair of yours whilst you formulate broad opinions on an entire generation via Current Affairs and Daily Mail.

    Ask mum

  • Make sure whatever you buy has B28

  • Get your s5 fixed , if its just the screen. Or buy another s5 used. S5 are excellent phones, and that is what you are used to. Should be less than $150 second hand.
Price anywhere would likely be same wherever you are on an old s5.

Have you tried blaming on the girlfriend and making her pay for it?
