I was wondering what to cook for dinner. My wife might be a bit grumpy if I came home with 12kg of pork shoulder though.

    • +5

Get a new OzB wife 😉

      • +1

Current one is pretty good value for money. Amortized over 10 years so far.

        • Their value starts to depreciate around the 15 year mark, get out now before you lose too much money.

    • Freeze the rest!

    • +1

surely you can locate an OZB freezer deal to go with the 12K of pork? LOL

  • +1

Excellent, I went boneless, added some necessities to make $100 and got $10 off.
Buying pork online from Woolies isn't what it used to be.

    • +1

Did you buy from woolies because this deal is at coles?

  • Assuming these are bone in?

I've never seen coles sell 2.5kg pork loin, usually around 1.2kg so do they just give you 2 of them?

      • Thats how its on the website

  • Just curious though if anyone uses pork shoulder to make stir-frys?

    • +1

Not a good cut for a quick flash of heat. Shoulder you want for low and slow.

      • Thanks Niko

    • i use shoulder to make yummy crackle

    • +1

      My tip for pork-shoulder:

      1. Cut the rind and most of the top fat layer off —> PORK CRACKLING!
      2. Put the rest of the shoulder in a smoker or slow cooker —> PULLED PORK!

  • how do you check different stores for stock? or is it temporarily unavailable everywhere now?

    • Click on Change location up the top. All are available for me.

  • +1

I saw some stores are "temporarily unavailable" but I found one close to me to get it :) I combined with the cashrewards cashback - never bought anything on coles online before! Everything in the cart at 50% off, like true ozbargain style.

  • pork must be in over supply. my local iga in breakfast point has pork roasts for 5.99/kg and tones of it. pretty good quality as well as i bought one.

  • Damn, bought it @ $11 per kilo for tomorrow's lunch. Early planning = full price.

  • "Pork Loin Roast Boneless Large
    $5.25 per 1Kg
2.5kg Coles Pork Loin Roast Boneless Large approx. 2.5kg on special for $13.13".

I ordered this yesterday, for delivery today. I just got an email advising that it is unavailable, along with all my bakery items.

    • +1

That's pretty standard for Coles delivery. Lucky they didn't substitute your pork loin for an old boot.

    • Not surprised. I suspect these online specials are designed to bait people to place an order. 800g pork belly for $6 seems too good to be true.

    • +1

so did I, but they substituted a boneless shoulder for the same price, same weight but priced at the bone in price. Great deal… I ended up with 6 boneless pork roasts, should get me by on pork for at least 3 months.

  • Thanks mate. Ripper deal, got a few 4kg boneless leg roasts for $17. Cut them in half and freeze them for cheap eats!

  • Great deal picking up this afternoon and 15 KG of Pork Butt is going on the smoker

    • Pork shoulder not butt. Slightly different cut. Butt here is more like the pork scotch …

But smoked pork anything is still a win 😀

      • It isn't just shoulder on sale. Leg, loin and belly as well.

        • all of which are further from being 'pork butt' than shoulder ;)

      • Pork Butt is Pork Shoulder, it is also commonly called Pork Shoulder Blade Roast or Boston Butt where I am in the US… The other one is Pork Picnic Shoulder.

I'm not familiar with the lingo down under anymore, but will need to brush up since I'm returning in a few months. I'm super excited to check out the BBQ (smoking) scene as I've heard it's starting to become very popular.

Looking forward to having pulled lamb too!

        • I feel ya brother… USien here too and been here 7 years and I am still not used to the meat cuts and naming conventions here.

        • The other one is Pork Picnic Shoulder.

the pork shoulder you buy in supermarkets here is equivalent to the 'picnic shoulder' cut in the US
works fine for pulled pork, but its not the same cut as 'butt'

it also pretty much always comes skin on unfortunately.

coles do stock pork scotch, which is pretty much a section of bone out pork butt

  • Put in an order this morning for pork belly etc. Just got a call saying it's all unavailable.

    • Me too :(

    • Bugger… Just placed an order, will see what happens.

  • I got a text saying it was ready to pick up, went to the store and was told it wasn't available.
My first and last Coles online order.

  • Has anyone actually got their order fulfilled?

    • I'm curious to know as well.

  • The substituted my 'Coles Pork Shoulder Roast Whole aprx. 3kg' for a 'Coles Pork Shoulder Roast Boneless approx. 2.1kg'.
Also my 'Thins' chips for Smith's Thinly cut. All with no discount or option to cancel. Won't be using Coles online again.

  • Ordered items worth $50 including pork shoulder at 10:30am.
Got an email about mid day saying items ready for collection but pork shoulder and few other things not available for Click and Collect at my local Coles.
Replied back to the email asking them to cancel the entire thing. They replied back saying I gotta ring 1800 455 400, rang that number and had to basically button mash the phone to get through to a human operator as there was no real option to cancel an uncollected existing order.
The person was helpful and cancelled it.
All in all a bad experience and I wont be using them again. Waste of my time.
My gripe is , shouldnt be available to order when the item is not in stock or never has been stocked at that particular Coles anyways.

    • Same scenario for us, same frustrating phone scenario.
In addition, we were told that it was too late to cancel the order because it was past the deadline - when they called us only moments before to say they had no pork to sell. Had a rant and after being put on hold for a time order was cancelled, but no refund yet.

      • That sux, you should have the right to cancel the order regardless. I have never experience this with woollies but Coles won't get my business.

    • I've rung Coles about problems with online order in past. A staff member even swore at me when I asked Coles to fix their issues.
I rang, asked to speak to a supervisor, & promptly received an apology & $25 credit!
Had given up on Coles online. This was first order since, in over a year.

Trouble with stock going out of stock after ordering - stock is not set aside unavailable for purchase by someone else (in store or online), plus stock systems are often inaccurate. We can change our orders later, so order is not definite until shortly before order is packed.

Stock becomes unavailable only when picker comes to fill your order many hours later & finds none. Orders can come in later but be filled earlier (for earlier pickup or picker picks that order before yours).

It's a common problem with online orders at many stores. Only way would be to remove stock off shelf at time of order & that is unlikely to happen (logistically & economically). Problem mainly shows when there is a rush to buy same item, so not seen as a problem needing to be fixed at great cost, when substitution is available to fill most orders.

Did you select not to substitute?
I selected to substitute. All meat ordered was out of stock. But Coles substituted. Worked in my favour👍

      Substituted:
      Pork Loin Roast Boneless (2.5kg @$5.25/kg) got 2.59kg @$1.88/kg😱 = $4.87!! (just smaller packs)

Coles Pork Shoulder Roast Whole (6kg $22.50) became Boneless (5.86kg $22.50) (normally dearer choice)

2.92kg of Organic Chicken Breast reduced from $52.51 to $14😱 (ordered 2.6kg of normal $9/kg CB)

Normal price would be around $190 on $100 order. Will pay $50 after $17.66 reduced price on larger & better order, CLICK10 code, 1250 bonus pts on new FlyBuys card, & $16 Cashback from CR.

So I'm pretty happy ordering online from Coles - with substitution selected😉

      • The issue is I don't think coles have these pork products in the specified weight. I don't think anyone has received what they ordered without substitutions.

        • Yes. That's why I asked if substitution was deselected, causing metalhead to miss the deal. So we can learn from the experience.

Was pointed out earlier by you😉 that Coles don't usually stock these sizes.
So if substitution was not selected… then that size of pork was likely to be out of stock & item cancelled as could not substitute smaller packs of in-stock pork😢

Always allow substitution! (Can return if not suitable.)

It was a great deal - just multiple smaller sizes than ordered as you say JoS. Hope you enjoy it🍴
Suited me. Will take me months to get through it all🐷

  • +1

well I placed a order to stock my freezer :)I used the $10 off for my first online order as well as $16 cashback on cash rewards so if it works its a good deal! thanks op

    • +1

Thanks for the heads up. I edited my order, added a few items and got the discount.

  • That Jasonasey

    What an ozbargainer

    • with unprecedented poorness comes a unprecedented uptake in good deals

Ordered this last night for pick up at a Coles Express Petrol Station and have just picked it up. 3kg whole pork shoulder was replaced with 2.2kg boneless variety (but still got charged $3.75/kg). The same case with 1.2kg whole pork belly, got the boneless variety instead but still got charged the cheaper unit price.

  • Along with a heap of groceries, I ordered 3.2kg of pork belly, and it has been substituted with 2.5kg of pork loin. The funny thing is I tried to order pork loin and it said it was unavailable, and still says pork belly is available online. The email says I have been charged the lowest price, which should be $5.25/kg instead of the $7.50/kg for pork belly. This will bring my total order under $150 which is the minimum for free delivery. Let's hope they don't completely stuff it up and charge me $7.50/kg for the loin (because the normal price for loin is $12/kg so they might see $7.50/kg as the cheaper price) or charge me for delivery when my order total goes under $150 with the reduction in the amount and price of the pork. I guess I'll find out when it gets delivered later today.

    • You will still get free delivery

      • I thought so. In fact, these sorts of online specials would be a good way to get free delivery? Order a ton of stuff you know won't be in stock to get above $150 and don't allow substitution, then when they cancel that, you still get the remainder delivered for free (or you get the pork… win win).

    • As anticipated, they stuffed it up. My 4 x 800g pork bellies for $7.50/kg were substituted with a 1.060 and 0.908kg boneless loin roast for $12/kg. So instead of getting 3.2kg of pork belly for $24, I got 1.968kg of loin roast for $23.62. Boneless loin roast was $5.25/kg at the time of order, and still is, so I should have been charged $10.33 instead of $23.62, or given twice as much. Sigh.

      • I emailed customer service, and they very quickly replied (34 minutes) and gave me a credit of $8.86. That's still not right, as that means they have charged me $7.50 for the pork loin, which is on special for $5.25. Looks like I have to email again to get my remaining $4.43. As for getting it as a credit on my account… I'm not happy about that either, as I hardly ever order online (this was my second time ever). I paid with my credit card, so I expect a refund to my credit card. Double sigh.

        • I had a similar issue getting credit to my account with Woolworths. I explained to them how disappointing the service was and that I was never going to use it again and that I expected a refund to my card. They offered an e-gift card (Wish) instead worth $15 (for a $8 credit) so I took that.

          • @Akya: I still haven't received the refund I'm entitled to. Not happy.

            • @blamesociety: After multiple emails (unanswered) and a couple of Facebook messages (which led to them trying to ring me multiple times at work), they replied to my email and said I had been given the right refund. I replied again and said nope, plus I want it back to my credit card. They replied quickly and said I would get the full refund back to my credit card within 3-5 days. That will make it over 3 weeks to get my $13.29 back. No quick mafs going on at Coles!

  • My order was cancelled. No substitute offered. It was my first and last order with Coles.

  • Don’t forget $16 cash back from cashrewards .
I bought 2 x lots of 36kg pork , $136 each order and than minus
$15 + $16 cash rewards think it works out to be 2.90$/kg. oh and don’t forget to put your flybuys for points . Very cheap ! Gotta be creative cooking pork for the new few months haha

    • Only CR code listed for use with the $16 cashback was CLICK10. As discussed in the CR deal & TA agreed - unlikely you will receive the $16 cashback if you use other codes.

      • -1

        I really did get 2 x $16 Cashback from cash rewards .
I used 15summer for online Coles . Both transactions show up in my cash reward balance , just not available until April .

        • +2

          Umm… No you didn't.
Those CashRewards don't hatch until around April, so I wouldn't be counting them just yet😉

What you got was a tracking advice email for purchases from Coles made through CashRewards. That just shows your order is in the CR system, & shows only an expected cash back, which may or may not eventuate in a few months time.

Not following the conditions of the deal, we may not get Cashback (eg not a new Coles online customer, not spending $50 due to cancellation or returns, using other than approved discount codes). That is all determined much later.

As warned on Cashback sites & often in deals - use of discount codes not shown on CR site have not been approved by the merchant (Coles) for use in the promotion, so are unlikely to be approved when cash back is determined (by Coles) & passed on to CR, then to us.

Unfortunately some still misunderstand this, despite warnings. I have tried to warn about this, along with TA. That issue leads to some very upset Ozbargainers.

That's why I have attempted to correct this misunderstanding here - so others don't follow the same path.

          • @INFIDEL: Baffling how people still don't understand how CR works.

  • Order cancelled, good deal, shitty availability. It’s a neg for me.

  • +1

Pretty poor form, my order was cancelled due to no availability so I went down to the store and all items available at full price. The staff had no idea about the discounted price but once I showed the website, they marked everything down. Walked out with $160 worth for $80 to stock the deep freeze but miss out on $16 from cash rewards…

  • I got a text my order was ready to collect at Forest lake at 2pm and arrived shortly thereafter. When I went to service desk was advised the order was cancelled by email for lack of availability and they couldn't explain why I got the text message to collect.

Was heaps of boneless loin and leg on the shelves. When I pointed that out to them they said it was the online order was a "large" order code and as it was not the same product they would not honour my order.

    Not impressed.

    • I would contact the corporation for or higher managment about this.. seems unfair that some or most of us got a substitution and you could not!!!

  • +2

My local Coles had no stock available, but they substituted it with a Coles Pork Shoulder Roast Boneless approx. 2.1kg and a Coles Pork Mini Leg Boneless 1Kg with a total value of $33ish. Extremely happy especially with the CashRewards deal :D

  • +1

    Happy with my order.
Even the substitution worked in my favour.

2.5kg Coles Pork Loin Roast Boneless Large (@$5.25/kg = $13.13) became
    2 packs (2.59kg @$1.88/kg = $4.87!!)
    Saved $8.26🎉

    2 x 3kg Coles Pork Shoulder Roast Whole (@$3.75/kg = $22.50) became
    3 packs Coles Pork Shoulder Roast Boneless (5.86kg @$3.84/kg = $22.50)

    Chicken Breast (2.6kg @$9/kg = $26.40) became
    Organic CB (normally $18/kg) (2.92kg @ $4.80/kg = $14!!)
    Saved $12.40🎉

    Love the savings with substitutions😀

Filled out the order to $100, used CLICK10 on my "first" online order for $10 off & CR for hopefully $16 cashback.

    • How did you get $1.88/kg??

      • +1

        Substitutions:
        Pork Loin Roast Boneless 2.59kg @$1.88/kg😱 = $4.87!!
        (just smaller packs)

2.92kg of Organic Chicken Breast reduced from $52.51 to $14😱 (regular $9/kg CB out of stock)
(error in previous comment: 2.6kg ordered @$9/kg = $23.40, so saving was $9.40 for 340g more)

        Assumed others received these prices.

        I don't question Coles maths - it's just Down Down incomprehsible😱

They had so many orders for pork roast I think it overloaded their calculator.

Wish I'd ordered more Pork Loin Roast @$1.88/kg as there were plenty on the shelf in the Brissie store! Pork Shoulder Roast Whole @$3.75/kg in comparison seems way too expensive😉

Got more than I ordered but paid $17.66 less on $100 order😱
A lot of savings in 1 order, with $16 Cashback & $10 off code. And picked up 1000 bonus pts on new FlyBuys card.

  • Is Free Range pork better than normal pork meat?
But Free Range Leg Roast than normal Belly Roast?

I ordered Belly Roast but was given Free Range Leg Roast.
