just so confused. some said no noisy, some said incredibly loud

Portable air cons are ALL somewhat noisy as the compressor is inside your home.
Split systems/window air cons are the only option if you want a quiet air con but not often suitable when renting and can cost a bit of money to install.

You will get a cool room but you will certainly notice the noise from it.

      • I wouldn't say somewhat. They are loud, though 1 or 2 brands are considered quieter. If you are in unit, you are stuck, but if you have house you could put it outside, therefore eliminating most of noise. But again that requires a bit of work to set it all up. So you might be better off with a wall air con as once you set it up, it just sits there, or on window. If you want quiet, then it's split systems.

  • If you miss the deal or can't pick up, it's only $368 with Click & Collect at Harvey Norman. 24 months interest free available also.

  • 2.9Kw only suit a small room i would say 10~15 sqm depending of ceiling height

    • Should be closer to 20sqm.

Take hours to cool down the room?

I have this until used in a 3.3m x 3.6m room take at least 2 hours to cold down from 28 to 25 degree in mid day.

In theory and practical are two different things.

The flaw in most of these portables is that the air coming out of the exhaust hose is replaced by the air coming from outside as a consequence

@qtvinsta: Aren't most smart enough to use a dual hose setup on the outdoor airflow side yet?

            Indoor air should just recirculate.

Outdoor air should be confined in closed loop and be sent straight back outside.

            • @joelmuzz: You'd think but manufacturers have seemed to no give an f about dual hose units.

              • @krisspy: If people said I'd buy it if you had dual hose setup, they'd get the message real quick. if only

            • @joelmuzz: Id' say many people don't care - they just want cold air coming out of an appliance with minimal setup and minimal visual disturbance. Many also only consider this a temporary solution so they don't research how to make something like this better or have no idea that it can be made better. There is little demand for it, that's why the supply is so poor in Australia.

        • Honeywell sell a dual hose 4.1kw unit in Australia (MM14CCS). It's a bit exy and hard to find stock but it's the only one I could find that supports this configuration out of the box. I have converted smaller side exhaust ones into dual hose and the difference is amazing (imho). You can really feel the air not being sucked out (and crap air sucked in) once you do this.

          • @bargainshooter: Costco have them. But they cost approx high $600 in Melbourne

            • @HL2: Yeah kogan sells them as do bing lee but they're both out of stock. I actually have this model and it's a very good unit, only neg is it's not reverse cycle as that model isn't available in AU.

            • @HL2: Damn, its $750 at costco casula, still cheaper than bing lee
