No, the V is still for 5. The A is for Advanced afaik.
Ie it's the model V lens / body etc but with the new chipset inside.
Yes it's for the people that don't want the changes in the VI.
There are no 'old' models in the RX series, the lesser models become cheaper entry levels. That's why the RX100 1st gen is still being sold.
They use both, this is the 5A or the VA but I used VA in the title as that seems to be what people are most familiar with. The VA is the V with the updated processor and firmware from the VI so it's technically the latest updated iteration of the RX100 series so far as im aware. The RX100 VI has a better zoom but the RX100 VA has a better sensor for taking darker shots, I'd been keeping my eye out for a price drop on this for a while since I wanted a point and click for taking pictures/video of my family so the zoom was irrelevant for me.
It doesn't have a better sensor; it has a better lens for low light photos (f1.8 vs f2.8 at the wide end).
Sorry aperture i think is what i meant, not used to camera lingo though i guess but point stays it's better for low light shots.

Nice, I didn't realize there were so few in stock when i posted it. Happy we both got it at this price though, it's the cheapest i've seen for this model camera ever and i've had my eye out for a while now.
I was originally waiting for a deal on a M2/3/4 but the discount on this was pretty hard to ignore and with only one left I just couldn't resist. The others weren't discounted as steep either. Cheers for the find.
I was planning to get this and at the end I bought Panasonic LX10. I got it for just under $600. The lens is F1.4, which is good for low light. Just an option.
Did they abandon the roman numerals?
I bought an RX100 MK IV like 2 years ago (it died within 3 months) and haven't followed this series since.
I shoot on an A7III now.
