  • Is it worth its value?

    • +13

      I think so.

Pros: Good storage, screen size, expandable upto 128gb micro sd, decent charging speed while using micro usb, good camera settings and manual mode.

Cons: no nfc, micro usb, Camera is nice but a bit over-saturated in colour

I don't use my phone much apart from the basic web browsing, music , taking photos, call, sms, emails and it works great. I get over a day worth of battery with 4g always on and 3 hours of music.

  • +5

this or the Redmi Note 7?

    • Ooo that would be a close call? Maybe redmi note 7?

    • yeah. I am in the same boat. Waiting for the news on the Redmi Note 7 pro actually, as Redmi Note 7 only goes up to 64GB.

    • +5

      This has B28

    • +1

      But this is Australian store.

    • Wait for the Redmi Note 7 Pro.
By far will have the better software support and custom roms.
G-Cam on the new Camera Sensor, cant wait to see the results.

  • +1
  • Will Officeworks price match this?

    • Probably, as long as they sell the same colour.

    • +1

Last time I checked no where have stock

    • +5

call their customer care and they do the price beat for you, get it delivered to a local store or home delivered.

    • I just got one from officeworks with 5% off their pricematch. Awesome value.

      • My local store doesn't have them in stock, did you call the customer service or just went in and bought it ? Are you able to upload the receipt ?

        • @ModiWar I bought it in-store (coburg, Vic). I guess I was lucky as many other stores were out of stock when I checked via their website. https://ibb.co/2K52F4F

  • Is this dual sim?

    • +1

      Yes

    • mine is, but never used it

    • +2

Yes but SIM slot shares with MicroSD slot. It is bad when you want to travel with two Sims and keep your photos stored seperately from internal memory

      Not recommended

      • Wow,defeats the purpose of it.

      • you can buy an adaptor on alibaba to use both.

        • yeah not an official product, it can fry your Micro SD card I heard. Dodgy adapter can kill your SD card

  • This or Moto G6 Plus?

    • +1

G6 plus but no deals atm. Reasons:-

SIM card slot same as memory card
      Has no fast charging
      EMUI is not good
Motorola G6 has better OS closer to stock

      Bokeh lens only 2MP

It's Huawei on budget model you might not get updates

  • Good price. Now to decide … so many options.

    Found the Honor 8x for $320 (+15$ shipping) https://www.eglobalcentralau.com/huawei-honor-8x-4gb-128gb-d…
    and the Nokia 6.1 for $309 https://www.tobydealsau.com/en_AU/product/nokia-6-1-plus-4gb…

Both a bit cheaper than this deal and all very similar.

    • +5

I'd take the Nokia. I much prefer the clean and most importantly consistent ui of mostly vanilla Android.

      • I like the Android One concept of the Nokia (+ USB-C, cheaper price, great size, Band 28).

    • Honor 8x seems a good option for the price and feels very premium.

    • +2

I don't think the kirin 710 has ever been in a flagship?

      • -4

        Huawei P20 Pro

        • +1

          Are you sure ?

        • +3

P20 pro had the Kirin 970. The 710 is meant to compete somewhere with the 6xx from Snapdragon I thought. Which would put this alongside the Nokia 6.1 and 7plus (the phones many people will compare it to)

  • +1

Seriously no fast charging on this model? That's a pretty bad thing about this phone

I read a review it takes two to three hours to charge!

    • +1

Even my old Moto G4 has fast charging and it is quite the life saver .

      • Exactly buyers beware….

  • -7

Nope. Huawei are run by communist. Do you really want to support them?

    • And they copy all iPhone models to make the clones. If Steve Jobs is still alive, he will stop this behaviour like he did with Samsung.

    • +3

and most phones are made in Communist China =)

      • +1

Politics aside, reports suggest Huawei no longer allow modders to unlock their bootloader.

So if LineageOS is a refuge once a vendor abandons you after 2 years, I'd go with Chinese alternatives (Moto and Xiaomi seem popular on here) ahead of Huawei.

  • -3

Never understood how Huawei and Oppo can get away with such blatant design copies (in this case iPhone X). Most would barely be able to tell them apart

    • +2

To put it bluntly most of the R&D and manufacturing is undertaken in Shenzhen, China. Currently, there is no strict regulations or legalisation surrounding design patents, hence, designs from EOMs are often leaked to other companies.

    • +17

The iPhone X was not the first phone to have a notch, so maybe you could open your eyes up a little.

      https://www.quora.com/How-do-people-keep-forgetting-that-App…
"So Apple didn’t have the first notch, or the first face recognition, or the first haptic feedback, or the first PC-less smartphone, or the first fingerprint sensor, or the first big screen, or the first bezel-free display, etc. Very few actual firsts. But when Apple does it, everyone else sees that like a blessing from the Pope."

      • +3

        So true! Wake up iFans

        • +10

We were discussing copying designs, I think you missed the point entirely.

      • -1

Neither the LG or the Essential in that article have notches that look like the iPhone one, so not sure how you think Apple copied their notch design.

Essential did it best, the LG one looks like garbage, and Apple did a decent job justifying their wider notch with the extra hardware they included.

    • +3

Do you know that iPhone copy others too?

  • Was about to jump on this one but then Xiaomi just released redmi note 7 and soon redmi note 7 pro after CNY. Will compare again once redmi note 7 pro is announced.

  • Can’t believe how long I waited to buy this got from qdau for 380 on Monday now specials are coming up. Can’t complain should have by Monday and they’ve been great to deal with.

    • Same by I need it by Sat

  • Owned this phone for a short period of time, very good phone.

    • What do you like most about it? And more importantly what don’t you like about it?

      • +3

Big screen. Good battery life. Everything is responsive. Fingerprint sensor at the back is super convenient. Nice design. Very light phone. Huge storage. Dual sim. Headphone jack. Selfie camera.

What I think can be improved: rear camera. Though for that price I can't complain really. Also would be better with faster charging.

    • Why only for a short period?

      • Upgraded to P20 Pro for better camera, dad took my phone.

  • Which one is better the 3e for $329 or the 3i?

    • +1

      3i a lot better use to $500

  • +1

Currently using this phone from the previous deal which I price matched at OW for about $350.

    Great phone for the price.
It is a big upgrade from a Galaxy S5 for me!

    • I'm currently using an S5. Seriously tempted to pull the trigger on the Huawei. Your comment makes me think I should do it. Must resist…

  • -5

I would personally never buy a Huwawei phone because they are already pre hacked for someone like me to hack for you and take all your data.

    • +1

Please explain how they're pre hacked differently to another Android phone. Are they rooted or something?

      • -1

It's been on the news that apparently that Huawei phone are always listening and everything that happens on the phone are being watched by the Chinese government. Just like Google watching us. USA vs China have your pick…

        • +5

haha. no problem with trump listening in then ?

    • +1

      Blame the aliens….

    • How is Russia, Mr Snowden?

  • Paid $342 at OW 5 days ago after price beating Toby

  • -1

I got a 3e version, rubbish camera, terrible battery. Sold it one week later

    • +3

      Not same phone…

  • Wonder where this would rank on dxomark

  • +1

Too cheap, I would get an iPhone Xs.

    • I would get an iPhone Xl, Xs is too small.

  • +1

I am using this phone right now. I really rate this phone especially for the price.

what I really wanted from the phone was big screen, long battery, dual Sim, resoonsive, band 28 and head phone jack. it delivers on all this points.

There is no fast charging, but the battery lasts for so long anyway that you don't notice.
micro SD card slot is shared with 2nd Sim slot. but it had 128gb storage so you will be fine.
finger print sensor is super quick.
camera is average, nothing special, but not bad either.

you are getting good value for money here

  • AI-enabled processor

    Thank god

  • -2

When i see the brand name Huawei or ZTE, I don’t even look at the products, just stay away from these chinese government running companies.

  • Will we get spied on this?

    • By the time you are on smart phone you get spied.

      • Im on Nokia 3310

        • +2

          That is the smartest phone.

  • Just price matched with harvey and used amex gift cards to get further 20% off yay!

    • and used amex gift cards to get further 20% off yay!

      Which gift cards?

  • +1

Is this a step up from v20?

  • -2

Still think the poco F1 is better gpu and cpu, better photos much better video.
But I know that everyone will complain about no band 28 support which is not as big a deal as people make out it still supports all of these bands:
2100Mhz (B1) – Telstra (a handful of sites), Optus (Tasmania), Vodafone
    1800Mhz (B3) – Telstra, Optus, Vodafone
    850Mhz (B5) – Vodafone
    2600Mhz (B7) – Telstra, Optus
900Mhz (B8) – Telstra (a handful of sites, utilises spectrum previously used by 2G)
    2300Mhz (B40) – Optus (Vivid Wireless spectrum)
So chances are you will get an LTE or 4G connection if you are in or near a band28 area anyway.

  • This or pocophone? Pocophone can now be found for sub $400.

    • read my comment above

    • +1

This if you need band 28, Pocophone if you don't. Some rural areas straight up don't get reception without it.

      • this is not true @Rysta you wont get 4G in some rural areas (most likely you will as there are six other frequencies at 4G)

        • It is a bit of an anecdote, but when I had a phone with a similar band coverage I had no reception at my parents' place (1 bar outside) or for most of the train trip there. Was the same situation with both Optus and Telstra.

      • Not many rural places with 4G that weren't covered by 750mhz NextG first…

        • You mean 850mHz 3G NextG. Not all rural areas even have that. I live in an area where often you get Zero reception, sometimes only B28 4G, and sometimes both. Just depends on the weather and how many people are using them, both Optus and Telstra. Voda works better most of the time for data.

    • Where can you find pocophone for that price?
