  • Legend, been wanting these for ages. Purchased immediately :)

Had the previous model, very nice. Love my Kef speakers.

    • Good to hear. What Kef speakers do you have?

      • +1

Ls50, Ls50w, Q7 5.1.2 setup with matching sub and egg atmos speakers. Also had Q700 for a while. May get LSX as well but don't need them 😂

        • Always new about the LS50's. My thought was the LS50 was powered and wireless.
Do you clearly notice the Crossover Timing Correction and Single Driver location design with the sound? (Say compared to the typical tweeter on top, woofer below design)

PS: what do you reckon of this price? KEF R300's pair $1744 before shipping costs with code POOLTIME. (way out of my price range, but to someone who could afford it.)
          https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/KEF-R300-Bokshelf-Speakers-GLOSS…

          • @thebadmachine: The Ls50 are horribly in efficient, I have them on my desk atm so the need for bigger amps is minimised. I temporarily ran them off a Marantz slimline and it was really bad.

The Ls50w on the other hand with 220w amps built in are astonishing. Personally I'd go these over the R300s but you aren't going to be disappointed either way.

As for the sound, I've found Kef speakers image better than anything I've ever heard. Even if someone walks directly in front it hardly effects it, it's incredible. Though I think that works against them in Atmos where directional rather than wider sound is more suitable imo.

            • @scuderiarmani: Yeah these days I think powered models are the way to go, being as the manufacturer can choose the best components/design.
And being all in one package just simplifies things (Simplicity is what I think is the key to good sound[Less components, less connections/cables], with components tested and designed to work together.)

People can spend a lot of money on HiFi equipment, with the most expensive stuff being designed to reduce this 'interference' whether it is from electricity or other sources (resistance/grounding?).
I personally think it a bit silly to have tonnes of separate equipment(pre-amps, dacs, power sources, amplifiers) connected with 100's of cables just to achieve this clean sound (with every connection/component a possible source for a new issue).

While we are on the topic of high cost, and related to your comment on 'imaging'. I am very curious to listen to the BeoLab 90's by Bang & Olufsen.
The listening experience is: apparently they can be placed on one side of a large room, and the sound can be directed in a way it is coming from all of the walls.
(In a sense removing that sensation of sound coming from the source where the speakers are placed)

              • @thebadmachine: Yeah I sold my receiver and Q700 and put the Ls50w in the living room. Just need to, add a sub to do them justice. Tbh they don't need it but atleast it'll put less strain on them. Just wall mounted both too, everyone loses their mind hearing them.

                • @scuderiarmani: Ok thanks for your experience. Will consider LS50w's in the future when such a price is acceptable.

                  • @thebadmachine: The best part about them is they are also wife friendly, given they are so easy to use, they can also just sit nicely on a buffet. They won product of the year on what hifi I believe, saying it's the future of home audio and I fully agree. Cbf with messy components.

              • @thebadmachine: EDIT: (In a sense removing that sensation of sound coming from the source where the speakers are placed, at the same time eliminating echoes/delays in all frequencies)

I am not a person who pursues 'perfect' sound. Just curious to how the BeoLab 90's sound.

  • Are the Porsche designers bored? Why do they design random shit… didn’t they design some weird looking mobile phone a while ago?!

    • +1

Yeah seen stuff here and there. They just provide the service, don't think they actually do much, other than add the Porsche name to the product.
(for a cost to the producer and consumer)

    • +1

I'd say they'd do nothing lol. Manufacturer pays Porsche to display their name of the product, consumers are fooled into paying more because Porsche. Porsche make money by "renting" their brand out.

      • Yes which is a service. It is not something new.

      • Absolutely - and what is even unique in this design ?

    • Hahahaha - Yes they did . Some companies are slow to move with times
      Well said

      • what about the Porsche designed hard drive… who cares?!

  • -1

    these need AAA batteries.
    This is not 1990 KEF

    • I like that, atleast it'll be just as, good in a years time. Plenty of eneloop lying around…

      • -5

        Spend $100 more, get :

        -better ANC
        -better sound quality
        -better build
-replacement warranty fr0m bose instead of graysonline warranty
        -better app based control
        -better everything

        • +2

Already got the Bose. Don't care the slightest. Kef sounds infinitely better to me.

So yeah in your opinion better everything.

Kef shits on Bose in home audio. I've had the previous model Kef headphones and they were great.

Bet you haven't heard them so I have no idea how you make your conclusions.

          • -1

@scuderiarmani: “Bet you haven't heard them so I have no idea how you make your conclusions”
Don’t bet on an an assumption you are making .

            • @Jabberwocky: You'd have more credibility if you suggested the Sony model which is better than the Bose.

But alas, now you just look bitter and twisted.

In your opinion Kef doesn't sound as good. Congrats and move on.

And waste your daily negative quota elsewhere.

              • @scuderiarmani: And saying crap , being a keyboard fighter - makes u credible ?
                Is it :) ?
                Calm down it’s Friday !

                • +1

@Jabberwocky: Atleast I've listened to both. These are $100 less than Bose and imo sound infinitely better. Move on.

        • I think the statement 'better sound quality' of Bose/XM3 is innacurate.
Most NC headphones do not have good sound quality. (In terms of Bose or XM3's the sound signature is V-shaped to please most consumers, and the strength of the noise cancelling affects overall Sound quality [even with custom EQ of XM3's])
Reviews of the KEF NC headphones say sound profile is more towards neutral (flat) with defined lows & high's clear but not sibilant.
This is personally more of the sound signature I look for.
KEF's should do a better job within NC headphones towards Better quality audio.

I personally avoid all NC products. But for those looking for a better balance/compromise between Great sound quality & Noise cancelling. I think these are a viable option.

            @thebadmachine: Dude
Ur post & your comments / replies looks like ur trying to market / sell and convince others to buy this very aggressively
            LOL !

I didn’t say the price is bad - but are questioning , why these? When you have better options

The upvotes are an indication of what people think & don’t buy into marketing

But unlike others who ‘Post’ a deal - you are actually ‘Selling’ a deal
            Don’t be emotional ;)

            • +1

@Jabberwocky: I promise I am not affiliated or work for KEF or Porsche. I try not to type like I am emotional sorry if it came across that way.
I think I answered your question in my previous post. They just appeal to a different (smaller) market than the Bose.
I am just justifying the fact I chose to post this deal.

              • -3

@thebadmachine: Dude ur deal is a good price - no doubt
But don’t sell it to us …opinion is good enough and u made ur point …but every reply to every comment trying to justify how good this is , not worth - I will still say

                • +1

@Jabberwocky: Ok thanks for your comment. I tend to do this wherever I comment. I guess its just how thorough(obsessive) and full on I am.
I am at this very moment having some threads hidden for off-topic reasons to help reduce the clutter. (kind of reflects how things are in my brain)

                  • @thebadmachine: Don’t worry about it. You contributed to the community and gave your opinion. Thanks. If people want take that the wrong way that’s their problem.

                    • @ufoninja: Everyone can take it any which way they please, it is within their rights.
Personally I think I am too logical and clinical.
Which is in a way cold and non-emotional.

    • -1

Yes you could make that statement with any company. This is not 1990 (enter company name here).

  • One major benefit of wired is battery life: Up to 50 hours (ANC) + another 50 hours for every extra battery

Well sure but the amp powerdrain just gets shifted to your phone battery which can be worse option.

    • Personally have had good experiences (lasts as long as specified) with battery life playing music from Apple products with headphone jack.
(cannot speak on those with lightning to 3.5mm dongle/dac [I am aware the dongle or dac like the Fiio i1, draws power from the phone to function])

Regarding Bluetooth, I always assumed the power use of Bluetooth as similar to that of analog connection. Being as the lowest power mode of Bluetooth only applies with certain small devices with little data transfer (smart wearables, using remote control apps). Anything like music will require higher data transmission (negating the efficiency of low power Bluetooth)
I always thought of the the difference in actual listening time between wired and wireless headphones negligible.

  • The BW PX is better?

    • +2

They are in a different price range (almost double) and B&W PX are wireless, KEF Space One's are wired NC.
EDIT: I removed the link to eBay deal, as the negative feedback did not sound good.

Not much of a deal: Current best price at minidisc.com.au $399. RRP $449-549

Pro's: Great sound quality, low NC pressure, look good, USB type-c, very sturdy build, apt-X HD, BT 4.1 (connects to 2 devices at the same time).
Cons: Only okay NC, sound quality worse with NC on, headband has a lot of clamping force (discomfort in jaw area when long use on big heads),
Leather pads take a while to break in and become soft, slight delay when watching videos (common with Bluetooth).
Sensors in headphone pause/play music and can be troublesome when adjusting them on your head/auto sleeps (sensors can be turned off).

      • Thanks. But their RRP are in the same range?

        • Yes, but I think the KEF’s RRP is inflated due to the licensing of Porsche design logo. I would say they should be closer to $349 RRP if they were branded as KEF’s not Porsche design KEF’s.
