wow not bad…although mainly junk food though!

  • +2

    It's not worth $77 - $3.80 for a 600ml drink, $3.20 for a tiny 90gm pack of chips, Arnotts shapes $2.25, $3.80 for a Monster, and nearly $4 for a Cornetto?? But still good.

    • +6

I think they are using Coles Express prices :P

  • +4

    This is not worth it.

Every single product on there can be found in cheaper and larger quantity's elsewhere.

And that is not even including specials.

Pay attention to the small size of each product, and the large price they are claiming.

    • +6

Magazines are the same price anywhere (with small exceptions). I figured it would be mainly useful if people have kids in the car that bug the crap out of them at service stations. Or if they find themselves buying snacks there anyway.

      • +8

Yes, people can buy the mags roll them up then turn to the rowdy kids in the back seat… Oh you meant something different ;-)

  • +4

    Yeah, servos are overpriced traps.

  • +3

Living upto its reputation - Junk-a-thon!

I bought some of these books off ebay last year. The book wasn't nearly as good. One question I have is whether you can use multiple vouchers in one visit. Last year you could.

    • I can't say too much…but I recently had a customer ask me to supply him some batteries…the kind I sold him have a 1000% mark-up at the big two…

    • Last I heard, Coles is following capitalist, mono/duopoly recipes. :P

    • Haven't heard this before

    • -1

I'll give you a giggle, I took woolworths to the AHRC for discrimination.

I was told by various morons that there was no wonder they got away with lying to the AHRC! Because the government was afraid that if I did win and they were found guilty, that woolworths might be so pissed off that they would tell the government to 'stick it' and then shut up and leave the country…so the government would rather me lose one job than all the woolworths group employees losing theirs! Yes, we have morons like this in the country!

No matter how many times I tried explaining woolworths broke the law or are making WAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY too much money to leave the country didn't sink in…and THESE PEOPLE VOTE!!!

      • Replying so you don't edit this … worth further reading/research :)

whats the hold up? and why would anyone + plus such a rude comment?

      Thanks Captain Obvious!

I'm sure you also saw it was a direct copy and paste.

    • +4

Add in the cost of the mags and it's still a good buy for some using supermarket prices then!
While I'm not interested, there are plenty of people that buy more than fuel at petrol stations/7-Eleven stores (Crazy, I know, to us bargain hunters) and it may be a good buy for them.

    • -1

If you used your reading skills (possibly a contradiction of terms in this instance) you would know the prices and offer is not for supermarkets. So how can you compare it to supermarket prices?

Man the intelligence around here is shocking sometimes.

  • +1

the smiths chips is a joke. you can get a huge bag for less than that… COLES = SCUMMERS

    • +1

Its not just the coles servo's mate, its all of em.

  • +1

I wonder if this company is the one they are dealing with.

    http://www.flyingsolo.com.au/directory/23064/Little-Star-Gif…

I don't know if the spelling (Esp in a business directory) or the $1 price is more interesting.

"Get your clients attention - give them a gift that is relevant and appriciated for under $1"

    • +2

      About us
Little Star Gift Vouchers creates product specific gift vouchers for Australia's most popular consumer goods which are then redeemable at any Coles Express Nationwide

      They are located in Melbourne……..

Maybe another branch of the COTD empire.

    • +1

      Nice detective work!

  • -1

Why wouldn't they be using Coles Express pricing considering it says
"are redeemable at over 650 Coles Express service stations across Australia"

And it also says "just hand the gift voucher to the counter staff". Note it doesn't say register staff so as not to give the false impression you can use this at a Coles supermarket.

Don't be an idiot comparing it to the supermarket prices. Read people. Read.

    • +1

How does comparing prices across different stores make you an idiot?

By your logic, we should never check booko.com.au when buying at Borders, because hey, if it's cheaper than it usually is at this particular store, it still counts as a bargain right? Who cares if it can be found cheaper elsewhere?

      • Flawed argument. People are comparing Coles Express service station prices with supermarket prices. You tell me, is this a fair comparison?

        • -1

I thought this was Ozbargain not "Ozconvenience"

        • Try comparing like for like. You can get better prices on these items from Woolies/Caltex servos? BP Servos? United? Who else would you like to compare it to?

Looking forward to your list of bargains from similar shops.

        • What difference does it make whether it's a similar store or not? It's the same product, no matter where you get it.

  • +1

buy stuff you would of not bought because it's at reduced price. come get them!
magazine you would not normally buy and inflated priced snack all for a reduced price!

    • buy stuff you would of not bought because it's at reduced price. come get them!
magazine you would not normally buy and inflated priced snack all for a reduced price!

dont act like youve never bought something here you didnt want because it was so cheap!

    • magazine you would not normally buy

How do you know what magazines I normally buy?

      • +4

        awkward

  • +2

Too bad we don't have Extreme Couponing here in Australia.

  • +9

Good deal if you frequent the servo and buy drinks or snacks while there

  • +2

+1 for predicting your own downfall

    • +1

I've been stabbed in the back so many times you sort of learn how to predict it…

  • +2

Brilliant listing. I got these little gift vouchers before and they work perfect- No hassle just gave my voucher and got my product. I noticed comments on price….check out Coles Grocery and you will see the magazines alone sell for over $20!!!! so its a great deal either way you compare.

They also make a great gift idea! I gave a few to some co-workers and my boss….im still getting a benefit;)

    I bought 2 booklets.

    Happy Easter!

  • B4 u go and waste yr $$$ at COTD think about if u really need any of the products mentioned.

    • +1

think about if u really need any of the products mentioned

erm…… this is Ozbargain……. nobody really needs 95% of the stuff on here

  • It looks like this is the website for Little Star:
    www.littlegiftvouchers.com.au/
The ASIC database indicates they changed their name on 11/4/11 (i.e. about a week ago!). Previously they were School Vouchers Australia.
I guess the reason to compare the prices of the items in other shops is to get an idea of how much REAL value you would get out of them it you add up how much you would spend on the items you are interested in at the supermarket. You also need to take into account that you only have 3 months to use them & one of the websites mentions on 2 vouchers at a time (not sure about these ones, though).

  • +3

Geez… Are you serious? Pretty good "deal" for COTD and Coles: Get people to pay up front on a bunch of vouchers and products most people would unlikely buy at Coles express otherwise. Think about it.. Even if you are rich or way to time poor to pay the stupid prices at the service station for your sugar/sodium addiction you probably will pull over to the nearest servo instead of holding out till you come to a Coles. And if you do then they got you.. you'll probably spending money on fuel or other crap.

"We’re expecting to sell 10,000 books." that's a great deal for them!

"Voucher items are 100% guaranteed to be in stock" it's like they are printing money: just consider the prices of what they pay for the goods vs what you do.

I repeat pretty good deal if your COTD or Coles. If you think you gonna save some money by purchasing in advance just add it to your weekly shop. Deal? Yeah right.

    • +2

Pretty good "deal" for COTD and Coles

Pretty good deal for the good friday appeal too

$2 from the sale of every voucher book today will be donated to the Good Friday Appeal.

      • +1

Pfff! You buy that? It's a token amount. Adds "value" to the deal for the "feel good" purchase. Make a donation yourself: $2+ is the amount where it'll be a tax deduction for you. I wonder if they're doing the same? They'll probably also claim that they have donated "x" amount to the community with your money.

        • +3

          10 000 x $2 = $20 000 = equals better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick

  • These are gift vouchers not coupons,
Best discount I could find for vouchers. LOVE vouchers use them all the time.
Not to mention that on Easter weekend you are giving charity to Good Friday appeal.

  • +2

Actually…… just noticed the $10 cotd voucher, which makes it an even better deal….

because….as much as we winge and moan….. and whether we like to admit it or not…. we all know we will be buying something off them in the future

  • PLEASE NOTE: We are currently experiencing extremely high volume of orders and anticipate that dispatch will be delayed by 10 business days. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused. We believe most booklets should arrive by August 2nd, 2011.

    Kidding.

  • +2

But Seriously, is there anything stopping me walking in with all 14 vouchers in one go and walking out with one hell of a showbag.

PS - I apologise if you're the poor bastard queued up behind me as I process all these vouchers in one hit !!

  • +2

I'm so tempted to buy one but trying to think of reasons why not.

Here goes with my "valuing" of the items (this is personal for me, so you may not agree with it.

•Little Star On-The-Go Gift Voucher Book includes:
•1 x New Idea OR Famous magazine voucher - MY value $1
    •1 x Better Homes or Men’s Health magazine voucher - value $2
    •1 x Prevention magazine voucher - MY value $0
    •2 x Pepsi/Solo 600ml vouchers - MY value $1 each
    •1 x Monster Energy Drink 500ml voucher - MY value $1
    •1 x Water 600ml voucher - MY value $1
•1 x Coffee (standard size) voucher - MY value $1
    •1 x Meat Pie 160gm voucher - MY value $1
    •1 x Cornetto voucher - MY value $1
    •1 x Donut voucher - MY value $.50
    •4 x Mars 53gm voucher - MY total value $2
    •1 x Nobby’s Peanuts 50gm voucher - MY value $0.50
    •1 x Smith’s Original chips 90gm voucher - MY value $0.50
•1 x Mentos Aqua Kiss Gum voucher - MY value $0.50
    •2 x Arnott’s Shapes 70gm vouchers - MY total value $1

So that gives me the total value of $14 by my warped valuing system, of what they're worth to me.
Add to that the $10 Catch of the Day Voucher, and that totals up to $24, which is above the purchase price of $22 inc postage. I know I could easily spend $20 with them in the next however long period of time.

But I'm expecting there to be a catch (maybe that's why they are called that), so I am going to be strong and just say no (like resisting good sex with an ugly person).

    Good night

    • Care to tell me where you would be getting these items at these prices?

    • +1

Maybe its just me … but I find resisting sex with an ugly person easy …. maybe that's why I find it easy to resist the "charms" of the Fat Twins and JOTD.

  • Are you people serious? You're complaining about these products being overpriced at Coles Express, or incorrect values being listed next to the items when you're getting it ALL for under $20…

I assume you lack basic reading literacy skills or have just jumped on the bandwagon after seeing the first few replies because it clearly states numerous times that they are GIFT VOUCHERS NOT COUPONS! Hell it's even in the product name… "Little Star On-The-Go Gift Vouchers!"

Coupons entitle you to predetermined discounts on products, usually a % of the item price or X amount of dollars off. Gift vouchers on the other hand allow you to receive a certain product or service in exchange for the voucher. Learn the difference.

For the ignorant few who just don't get it…
"Works like cash - just hand the gift voucher to the counter staff, no other purchase necessary!"
"There are no strings attached - the purchase price you pay here is all you have to pay, and once you receive your book, just take any gift voucher into your local Coles Express for redemption - there’s no extra spending necessary!"

    • I think we all know what a coupon is. What people are complaining about is the fact that these items are barely worth $20, and that the prices listed are exaggerated to make this deal seem a lot better than it actually is.

  • +6

I work at a Coles Express store and i can tell you that these items are NOT guaranteed to be in stock. At my store we dont have pies, coffee, donuts, nobby's nuts and a few of the magazines. Its no wonder i get abused by people that try to use these vouchers and we dont have any of the things they want.

    • +3

At my store we dont have pies, coffee, donuts, nobby's nuts and a few of the magazines

      haha lol, very informative

GREAT thanks for the inside info!!!

      +1 to you

    • which store? I'm looking to purchase a pie today for lunch and I don't want to waste my time. :)

  • +1

JOKE-OF-THE-DAY are proud to bring you: Crap, crap & more crap …

Just look at the list - junk everywhere, junk food, junk drinks, junk mags, from the Junk-Of-The-Day merchants who deliver "$30 mystery specials" - worth $0 - for $4 in envelopes with no branding because they don't want you to realise what junk you paid for! - and hope you'll forget about it over Easter.

Unhealthy "food", unhealthy drinks and unhealthy mags advertising more unhealthy stuff at unhealthy prices - I would suggest there should be a health warning about consuming too much of this stuff at once!

    ;)

ps but love to bendertiger and make sure you get your $4 back (& thanks for confirming, what is evident in the pricing, that the fat battery twins have been ripping us off for decades)!

    • bendertiger is a guy you know…

  • +1

    Garbage deal, not a bargain.

  • +5

Everyone has different perceptions on the deal especially regarding it's value. While I dislike much of the food due to it's unhealthy nature, I still find it's a bargain given that a convenience store generally has a higher price (due to the convenience, duh).

While it might not be a bargain for you, many people who do travel and commute a lot (sales reps, or even those with pesky kids) may actually get some use out of this bargain. I'm giving it a positive. What works for some, may not work for others.

    • +2

although I have no intention of buying this, I completely agree with you. I had a job once that involved me driving around with barely a break inbetween getting to my next destination. Although I always had a packed lunch with me & healthy snacks, I got stuck having to buy things at expensive places like corner stores, convenience stores & service stations when I found myself a little peckish.

  • Thanks. It's like investing in a food voucher, for a rainy day!

  • -1

Not convinced this is a bargain.

    • -3

Neither am I. Inflated product price, a laundry list of crap that nobody really wants all of and hard to redeem.
