How to Celebrate a Birthday on a $100 Budget?

My girlfriend and I are saving for a house so we’ve agreed to not spend over $100 this year on each other’s birthday.

My initial plan was to take her camping and cook her a meal over the weekend but the spot I’ve booked has been closed indefinitely due to bushfires.

Any ideas on the best bang for your buck birthday experiences for $100?

            You are automatically a de facto relationship after 2 years.

            Only if living together in a genuine domestic basis.

            But regardless of any de facto status, buying a house with a girlfriend is still a terrible idea

    Firstly, sign up for as many birthday deals as you can: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/list_of_birthday_deals
    A lot but not all of these require you to be a member for at least 1 month or 12 months, depends on the company.
    And of course, use birthday deals for whatever you choose to do!
    That's what I did for my birthday last year (November), used 1 birthday deal for dinner (buy one meal get one free), used the Amex Shop Small for a drink at a bar before dinner and for breakfast the following day, and then camped for a night with my husband. I had to keep my birthday as cheap as possible just so we could afford my husband's 30th celebrations which came to around $600ish and was 3 weeks after mine.
    Oh and I redeemed a Katies $20 voucher on a new top without spending extra, and a $20 Witchery voucher on new socks for myself without spending extra. There's some really good no minimum spend, sale stock included birthday vouchers!

    how about $100 gift card?
    that way you can re-gift to each other every year without ever using it

    Hire a cheap nasty stripper. That would solve both your problems - girlfriend will leave and a birthday present for yourself. :P

  • You could easily get a decent lunch or dinner for $40 on groupon. Grab couple of $1 slurpees and go see a movie for $24. You will have $34 left over to buy couple of bottles of Aldi wine, and some dips and nibbles.

    $100 is a lot mate - and good on you for putting in the effort to make it special!
    Maybe drive in cinemas? Or a nice picnic somewhere?

    I find that the less you have to spend - the harder you need to think which means it is usually more thoughtful and meaningful. Whatever you do, I'm sure she'll appreciate it.

    HBD to her!

      Other ideas:

      • A book that she has been meaning to read.
      • Cook her a nice meal
      • Something for the new house that you can maybe personalise - e.g a cheeseboard with your initials (I understand that this may be a budget breaker).
      • A photo frame with a favourite pic.
      • PJ's
      • A handmade card
    • 100 is a lot? yet the median house price is a million in most suburbs lol.

  • I haven't spent that much on my (or my wife's) birthday in a LONG time.

    Thanks for all the input - here is what I have come up with;
    1. Pick her up and drive her to Marrickville Porkroll for Breakfast ($11 total)
    2. Drive to Cape Solander Lookout to check-out the view
    3. Make out way to Audley in the Royal National Park ($12 entry + $35 for 2 hours for the row boat hire)
    4. Eat my lunch that I will pack (will use the $20 Woolworths voucher that I won from the passtheparcel competition over Christmas so this technically does not count)
    5. Drive to Carriageworks to check out the Nick Cave exhibition (need to find somewhere I can park for free)
    6. Take her to Bradfield Park for a night picnic with candles / wine that I got for secret santa last year (Will order a pizza on UberEats - $15 sign-up, $24.50 total for the pizza including delivery)
    7. Give her a present (Roger Ferrer cap - $32.20 from ebay - should have used CashBack but I already bought this)

    Total spend - $11 + $12 + $35 + $9.5 + $32.20 = $99.70

    • Legendddd :D

    • Roger Ferrer cap might be cheap for a reason.

      lol surely you're not nutting it out dollar for dollar. just say you don't want to spend too much over 100 and try and organise it to suit that. you're getting way too technical here literally worrying about every single dollar. you will buy the house in time, no point obsessing over 10-50 dollars its not going to be the difference of whether the bank lends you X amount or not. just enjoy life while you are young a bit and stop obsessing over a few dollars.

    Go to bed early.

  • Hold off until Valentine's Day and save more money.

  • a $50 rock bag of weed and cask of goon

  • Picnics are always the best value.

  • Hit up Aldi, host a house party.

  • get a bowling with arcade voucher package. go eat somewhere first then do that or eat there

  • Start an argument with her the night before. Works like a charm.

  • Please give her a present (atleast one) to unwrap in the morning of her birthday. Spend the majority on the present (or presents) leave about $30 or so for somethign to eat. That is what I would want and I am female LOL!!

  • Movinbed

  • Buy a Peking duck and BBQ pork less < $100.

  • Shout 20 friends $5 short stacks at Pancake Parlour using the mobile app coupons. The birthday person will have his/hers free.

  • Every birthday I had one Nandos free meal and one free Subway meal.

    Buy a good cake from Vietnamese/Chinese central for $40 with free candles;
    Get four Dominos pizza for $28;
    Get one dozen of beers for $20 by using Coles or Woolworths dockets;
    Buy some soft drinks and chips for the remaining $12.

    Should last for an evening for 4-5 friends.

    • Why not just go to Sydney wesley mission shelter for a free meal for the birthday :/

  • 3 words Groupon and scoopon should do the trick.

  • $100 will be good for Timezone. You can also redeem the tickets earned for a gift.

  • The Basin Campground looks ok and was rated really well on Google. Could try camping here since you wanted to take her camping -
    https://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/camping-and-accommodati…

  • Easy do what I do.. Go to work, come home and go to bed. $0.00.

  • Try the Diggers at the Entrance, they have a buffet for about $25 on the weekends.
