  • $49 still a good price for 2.
PSA though, you can get the 3rd-gen Dot + 200 mins of Skype calls for $52 on amazon.com.au with the ShopBack deal right now.

    • The new model drops micro USB and audio out from memory

      • New model has a better speaker, microphone radius and has a nicer design. So it depends on what you are looking for I guess.

        • Power adapter for the new model is HUGE. With 2nd gen power adapter you possibly put a plug beside it, with the one for new model it’s impossible.

          • @trex: its also proprietary plug on the unit itself.

        • Needed more power to run

          • @asa79: That I can power the Gen 2 dot from the USB port on my modem is a far bigger advantage for me than the improved speaker in the Gen 3 dot.

            • @Astronaut Joe: I have 3 gen 2 dots, but i dont use them for music, i use the google homes

    2 for $49

Not that great of a "1 day deal"

Plenty of other retailers have had it at this price when clearing stock last year.

JB's deal is still available, expire 31/01

    Officeworks had $24.50 each

    Myer 2 for $49

    Amazon 2 for $49

TGG is slow on the bandwagon

    • Unfortunately most of those offers (if still valid) don't have any stock and/or wont deliver, collect only from remote areas. So i'm glad of this deal. Thanks OP.

  • Can this connect with Google chromecast? And does it have build in music like spotify and youtube?

    • Afaik no to chromecast, I can't see it as a casting option like the google mini. It plays tunein and iheart radio, spotify it asks to link a premium account. It plays amazon music (it's basic) if you have prime. You need to subscribe to amazon's premium music service for more songs and better playing options. Plex kinda works which is nice if you want to play locally stored music. I dunno about youtube. It can play audible books, read some kindle books.

      • Thanks, i think i better stick with Google home.

      • According to Amazon, the Echo devices "don't connect directly to YouTube, however, you can launch Youtube on your phone or tablet and then connect to the Echo Via Bluetooth, and it will play", in other words… not a real option.
AFAICT, Amazon Music is the same deal, if you don't have Music Unlimited / Prime, you can only play via a bluetooth-connected device, which makes the Echo just a dumb speaker. Unfortunately Google Home devices area the same (pretty useless unless you pay the monthly subscription fee).

  • Based on the handling of recent 'deals' I feel that the Ozbargain community should be wary of The Good Guys given the abysmal regard they show for their customers. The handling of the whole xbox crap https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/435222?page=6#comment has steered me well away from giving them my business wherever possible.

just move on, that was price error and this is not (I hope :D)

      • nah i dont agree. Sure, some companies experience pricing errors - but to announce once after 300+ orders over an 18 hour period via multiple sale platforms is just poor business practice.

Hiding behind pricing errors shouldn't be the default. We're lucky to have good consumer protection in Australia yet we let companies do the dodge via price jacking & 'get out of jail free' cards such as this - it's not a practice we should let our retailers get away with as it only erodes our rights and expectations as consumers.

I want to see companies accept their mistakes. Hell, if i make a mistake I have to pay for it. It's only when it costs them that they'll take the steps necessary to fix their sh!t.

        • They've given out 6 grand in vouchers though for a system glitch…

Can I use the Amazon Echo Dot and plug it to a dumb speaker with AUX, and cast audio or tell Echo to play spotify music?
