I'm sticking with contact through eBay.

You can send me as much crap as you want outside of eBay, I ain't touching any of it. I bought the console on eBay, it will be resolved on eBay. Anything you send outside of there is liable to not be received or noted.

          Basically, suck me, TGG.

          • @TheDukeOfNukem: Did you get a request from them to cancel, or have you just used "Contact Seller" to send that message?

            • +3

@Stugots: Screenshot was a message. From my past dealings with feeBay Power Sellers, unless the power seller is really dumb, given the customer is clearly upset, it is best to quickly cancel the transactions (they didn't need buyer's consent to do so - unlike casual sellers - in which if you try to pull this type of stunt, you are screwed).

But, TGG's handling on this is slow, sloppy, unprofessional.

              • @netsurfer: Interesting, thanks Netsurfer.

I am speaking to eBAY customer service right now, and they are reporting this to their Accounts team so they're able to start an investigation on their account. However, they say that "in this matter, the seller has control of the item" after I asked "I still want them to honour my order, what can I do?". He has now just said that the cancellation needs to be a mutual agreement between buyer and seller. Seems like the details are a bit wishy washy.

I am just trying to work out what is best to do from a strategic point of view.

They know they can't cite their own T&Cs for someone else's website.

Should I send a message now, or wait until I get the cancellation?

                • @Stugots: You can get different responses from different CSRs and some may tell you the wrong information. I can only speak from my experience. Unless feeBay recently changed their system (I doubt it - because people have reported item(s) simply disappeared from their purchase history), power sellers can cancel orders without consent from buyers (but maybe feeBay put a limit on the number of transactions they can cancel in a given timeframe). Casual sellers cannot cancel an order unless a mutual agreement between buyer and seller is reached.

Bottom line is whether $59 in compensation vouchers is enough for you or you really want to exhaust all your options (ACCC, lawyers - honestly for $341, you cannot go to court - coz. court will think you are wasting tax payer's money, small matter tribunal… maybe). Probably only TGG Online CSR will feel most of the pain.

Also, you don't need to worry about TGG getting away with it. feeBay do a lot of analysis, they know how many transactions got cancelled (they don't like cancelled transactions at all). Furthermore, PayPal is involved in most of the transactions I reckon. PayPal hate chargebacks (and even if TGG did all the refunds, there is a penalty with every cancellation in PayPal to the seller - electronic transaction fee). Those things hurt more than negative feebacks. They will be lucky if PayPal don't penalise them further by freezing some of their funds.

Unless you received an e-mail saying a store is processing your order, I suggest you take the cancel route and get the $59 in vouchers. It is the most sensible choice and get a closure on this matter.

                  • +1

@netsurfer: How many are getting $59 in vouchers? I was only able to get the promise of a 10% off code after the refund is issued.

                    • @chichi: My understanding is TGG give you $20 store voucher and feeBay support provide the 10% of the value in voucher ($37.9). Sorry, I got the maths wrong, people reported $57.90 (not $59).

                      • @netsurfer: It must be a case of who you get from cs. I was only offered a 10%discount code for a future purchase. Just my luck.

                        • @chichi: Oh well, not surprising. It could turn out to be okay, depends on what you use on the voucher. It is essentially a fee waiver - feeBay's fee is approx 10%.

  • +2

Sent a message to the ACCC about this whole fiasco, but mainly about my situation with the gift cards, also sent a message to TGG directly so hopefully someone can help me out here. This is a f**cking nightmare

    • +2

      Good luck!

  • +3

I have emailed The Good Guys directly and left a negative review on their Product Review page (I doubt they will care, but oh well)

Their Product Review page is here: https://www.productreview.com.au/p/the-good-guys.html

  • Alright the listing has now just disappeared from my eBay summary. How do I find it?

    This seems so bloody dodgy.

    • You cannot. It is power seller using their given power to cancel a feeBay transaction. The only trace is to check PayPal (assuming you used it) and the refund should have been completed.

Check your e-mails. Hope you received your $20 voucher from TGG. Then, talk to eBay CSR to try to get the 10% compensation in voucher (~$37.9). Some people only got a 10% voucher from feeBay, not $37.90 credit voucher.

      • Somehow it came back, not sure why. PayPal transaction is still sent status, no refund yet.

Order still stands. Tomorrow will be an interesting day.

        • PayPal transaction indicates the item has been sent? Then, you should be getting an XB1X soon.

  • +10

    My chat with eBay csr:

I reviewed the transaction and can see that this is not yet cancelled here under eBay. Cancellation should be an agreed resolution between the seller and the buyer so if you are not willing to accept the request of the seller, you can just respond to their email or just ignore this.

    Gino19:43 PM
We are receiving several reports for the same seller and item today and we are currently investigating this issue.

    Gino19:43 PM
For now, the best option is to wait for the update and you can just deny the seller's request for cancelling this order. We have already reported this seller and item to our Trust and Safety team

Thanks, but how do I ignore it? As in the email they say the order will not be processed further and a refund is in process

    How do I deny?

    Gino19:46 PM
You can either respond to the email of this seller and let them know that you are still willing to continue the transaction or you can just ignore their email and expect that this transaction shall proceed.

    Gino19:46 PM
We have already reported this incident and rest assured that this will be sorted out as soon as possible.

Anyone got any pointers as to what's worth getting with this $20 voucher? Everything @ TGG is super expensive so I don't really see what good it will be, especially seeing as it's only valid for a week

OMG! As I was writing my refusal of order email to TGG on Ebay I just noticed something!!!!!!!!!

In the email I received from TGG… it says XBOX ONE S!!!!!!!! Not XBOX ONE X! HAHAHAHAHAHHAHA! They got the model number right, but they wrote ONE S! Oh my lord. They are going down.

    These guys are total clowns.

    • +2

It says xbox one x about 5 words after that in your picture?

      • Ahhh ahahaha yep, I see it. I saw One S then started freaking out and got a little bit excited.

Oh well still going to spin it in the email to them somehow.

    • Yes some were able to do click and collect. One person scored more than 8 apparently.

FWIW here is my chat session with ebay

    Ebay
I believe you received an email from the good guys saying that the item was cancelled. You are not the first one who contacted us about this. Don't worry this transaction is not cancelled here in ebay. The issues might be in their site or store. This transaction should push through and they can't cancel this without your approval.

    Moi
So if they try to cancel it i will need to approve this before it goes through?

    Ebay
    That's right
Don't worry , this has been reported already by other buyers.
Aside from this, is there anything else that I can be of help?

    Moi
How do we go about getting them to honour it?

    Ebay
There's nothing we need to do, the purchase you made is a binding contract with the seller. They should honour it or thi.s will be taken against them.

    Moi
Taken against them by ebay? Will you guys do anything about them? My worry is i dont agree to the cancellation and it just hangs there in your system

    Ebay
Yes, their account will be restricted or suspended if they will not honour it. So it means end of business for them .

    • +1

LOL sounds too good to be true.

    • +1

Hmm this does sound promising, I will message eBay in the morning too to log this and make it clear that I don’t want the transaction cancelled. Mine is still showing in my purchases list.

    • +6

This will not happen for a power seller like TGG. They are just placating you.

      • +1

Exactly, eBay just saying what you want to hear. But when it comes to actually actioning it against TGG they won't do anything. They haven't done anything against Price Jackers, they aren't going to bother doing anything against 300 transactions.

It just means lost revenue for eBay if they end TGG store. Just a small calculation of eBay revenue from TGG:
Approx 170,000 feedback, assuming each feedback equates to 1 item, assuming each item is on average $50.
That is a total spend of: $8,500,000
eBay takes a 10% cut of that which is: $850,000….

Obviously the total spend is likely to be alot higher, but that is just a very conservative "average".

    • +1

That's for standard / casual sellers. Power sellers are given the ability to cleanly cancel a transaction they cannot fulfill (the buyer won't be able to see it from their purchase history anymore).

Sure, the analytics will still pick up TGG did cancel that many transactions and may slightly affect their seller ratings, but TGG will stay on the Power Seller program. Slightly harsher penalty from PayPal (each cancellation / reversal does incur a small fee to the seller) and too many chargebacks upset PayPal and they could freeze some of TGG's PayPal account funds for a while.

All you really get is a warm fuzzing feeling that feeBay CSR understand. It doesn't solve anything for you. The benefits from cancellation is already getting worse, you want to drag on just to get temporary emotional satisfaction? The quicker you cancel, the quicker you can get some benefits.

      • Can you still see it if you select to view canceled transactions in your purchase/order history?

I might understand giving power sellers the right to cancel transactions without buyer consent but why give them the ability to completely wipe all trace of the transaction itself?

  • +3

Yeah it does but i guess the main thing is they are very aware of what is happening. Everyone who ordered through ebay should contact them just to log it and let them know it is not just a couple of disgruntled customers.
    Cant hurt

    • You don't really need to report it (many people already did). Read my comment above, eBay analytics pick up everything. FeeBay simply give Power Sellers the ability to do clean cancellations for a huge blunder like this. PayPal side is harsher, but TGG will be able to deal with that.

I dare feeBay kick TGG out - aren't going to happen.

      • Lol of course it's not gonna happen, would you bite the hand that feeds you? Nope, they're same kind of scamming type, can imagine TGGs tax claim on cancled sales etc. So many loop holes in the system that little business take advantage of, not to mention how much big guys can, especially if they have damn good tax agents, miracle workers.

        • +1

          But they're the good guys?

  • Received my cancellation email. Ordered 21:15pm yesterday eBay with delivery option. What a shame!!!

I'm loving the upvotes this deal received after it was confirmed we were all getting screwed :/

    • I know it's small consolation but we at least got $57 combined worth of free credit.

I feel for the people who bought gift cards and are now stuck with them.

  • Got cancellation email. Big ass (profanity) off to you, The Bad Guys.

  • +2

Last night, they had the time to update the stock levels every few hours but now have the guts to cancel all XBOX One X's orders. This crook took away my gift cards and the PIXIES eBay code.

  • Ugh just did a late shift and found out about this. Honestly so frustrated aftwr back n forth checking of 5-6 hours and finally getting one and for it to be cancelled now 😡
There are way too many comments to read so can someone please summarise as what one needs to do to get any kind of compensation?
Ps. My order on Ebay is still there with saying “order yet to be posted” but obviously got the cancellation email as well

    • +5

TGG should have sent an email out with a $20 coupon (no min spend, expiry 6/2, valid in-store & online, but not ebay).

From what I've read you can contact ebay customer service and attempt for some compensation, some are receiving a $37.90 coupon (no min spend), others are only receiving a new 10% off coupon.

Personally I'm waiting in the hope that ebay orders may somehow proceed, given that the terms & conditions of ebay apply rather than TGG's own policy in regards to pricing errors.

  • something i dont understand is how they sent an email to my personal account to cancel the order?
i mentioned it to ebay chat last night and he said it is probably via paypal but my paypal is linked to a different email.
the only way they could have got that address is via ebay.

    • They get your phone number and email address etc listed on your Ebay account when you buy something.

  • So had anyone else who ordered from eBay not yet had any kind of cancellation contact?

    • Nothing yet. Just checked then.

    • +5

Ordered from eBay on Tuesday night. Got an email at noon yesterday from the store saying my order was dispatched. Got an email through eBay this morning saying my order was on the way, so I'm assuming my delivery will be today or tomorrow unless TGG have really really screwed things up.

    • nope, purchased Wed 11:08 am and no e-mails yet.

  • I just spoke to a CSR from eBay and she said she can't issue with me any vouchers as my order hasn't been cancelled via eBay yet.
But they will do it if/when the order is cancelled.

  • +1

Anyone else enjoy that after this fun journey.
All the ads on ozB are for Xbox stuff at thegoodguys…

  • +6

Lodged with the ACCC. not happy about the handling of this process. Would this not fall under Bait & Switch in so far as the retailer has now provided a short term voucher for a small amount as it could be stated they had no intention to honour the product/price that was originally advertised?

I feel the price error excuse dwindles when you consider that so many people were able to have their order fulfilled, and that the stock levels were refilled multiple times over the course of this 'promotion'.

  • +3

300 units sold over a 12 hour period with multiple restocks. Anyone would think it is NOT a pricing error. Hope Ebay gives it to them, cause they are blaming Ebay’s automated listing process.

    Hi,

    Thank you for your message,

As per the terms and conditions listed on our eBay site, this was an error listed on our site and we reserve the right to revoke any stated offer and to correct any errors.

As this was a genuine pricing error, please accept the $20 store credit which can be used on The Good Guys website or in-store.

Please allow 3-5 business days for a full refund to be reflected.

    http://www.ebaystores.com.au/The-Good-Guys-Australia/Terms-a…

Pathetic. Hope they lose a lot of business over this.

    • and let me guess, it hasn't being cancelled yet.

      • I am telling them to refund me immediately.

    • I received the same reply. The order is still sitting in my account with no refund yet.

  • For those who ordered through the website where are you publicly leaving complaints? I'm not sure whether to put a post on their Facebook page or Product Review page? I'm just really disappointed in the whole process and stating that we will receive the refund in the 'next few business days' just adds an extra sting.

Can someone do a historical analysis on their TGG eBay T&Cs website?

If this existed prior to yesterday, why did none of us find it? And better yet, why weren’t we referred to it at all?

  • What do you guys play on this thing? I've been wondering that for years.

    • For me just Ryse, Forza, Halo and Gears of War games.

      • It seems their best game every year is Forza (according to annual Best Of awards), a driving game that I have no interest in.

      4k movies

Stunning quality 4K enhanced games / movies & a crapload of backwards compatible games

      • That's cool if you're already invested in MS's eco system but I don't have any 360/OGXbox games to play on it. I suppose you could buy them from their store, but I don't see myself buying the latest and best console to play old games.

BC is a nice feature to have, and a selling point but the reality is it doesn't move the needle in terms of console sales. It's a feature people say they want but they don't use it much. Data shows I think only 1% of Xbox owners actually use the BC.

        • -1

Well there are a lot of older games that my kids & I enjoy playing that are not available on PS4 but are backwards compatible on Xbox One & it’s about having that option available. I already have a PS4 & Xbox One X & no point having a PS2 / 3 sitting around when the One X handles it all plus it’s handy to game share on the Xbox One ecosystem.

I purchase consoles I want for my own reasons.. I don’t care about sales figures or data percentages. Both consoles have their ups & downs but I enjoy them both & for some reason there are so many PS owners that seem so invested in spending their time whining about Xbox rather than just enjoying their PS.

Ultimately thou I’ve been much happier with the One X lately as the 4K content of games/movies looks brilliant, the backwards compatibility has been great & the console itself is silent whereas the PS4 sounds like a jet engine trying to keep up with some of the games.

People need to just enjoy whatever system they like & use.

          • @custom-consoles: That's fair. I do the same as you. I buy based on my own reasons. It's just that I'm with the mass market in not needing BC. Even on the PS4 I didn't care that it couldn't play PS3 and PS2 games because I've already played them and don't need to again.

The biggest argument for 1X is better multiplats, but I have a 1070Ti equipped PC for that, and all of the Xbox's exclusives are on PC.

Its first party games (pretty much the only console exclusives) don't speak to me. MS is unwilling to take risks with its studios and create new IPs. The exception being Rare who were finally allowed to make a new IP, a rare privilege for MS 1st party. Otherwise they have two studios who make nothing but Forza games, a studio that makes nothing but Halo, and one that makes nothing but Gears. When the previous Gears and Halo studios got sick of making only one game and left, they didn't get the hint and instead started two new studios to take their place making one franchise exclusively. It's a matter of time before they burn out too and leave only to be replaced.

I'm trying to justify the purchase but just am not seeing it. I don't buy 4K discs. I learned my lesson after Bluray. Any disc format is going to be made obsolete every few years. 8K is already along the way and make 4K obsolete the same way 4K made FHD Bluray obsolete. MS don't make exclusives I want to play, and my multiplats look better on PC so.. eh.

            • -1

@lostn: Yeah if it’s not something your interested in or committed to then no point forking out the $$ for it as you won’t be satisfied & just have buyers remorse afterwards.

Everyone’s situations are different so it just depends on what they want / like.

I’ve never really been into gaming on PC as I prefer to just grab the controller & kick back on the lounge but I’m also really only a casual gamer so I couldn’t justify building a kick ass pc & both the current gen consoles will keep me satisfied until we get to see what the next gen systems have to offer.

        • +1

For me, I am still disappointed with my XB1X purchase in general, mainly due to the games available so far. By the way, I had an XB1S before, and value for money, XB1S is still way better (and I didn't have issue playing games on XB1S on my 4K TV).

I have XB1X for more than 1 year now. Only two games I feel are impressive enough so far. One of them is Red Dead Redemption 2, the other one is Forza Horizon 4. I tried many other so called XB1X enhanced titles, but ended up disappointed (I did compare some of them to my XB1S when I had it). Too often, I bought games because they were XB1X enhanced, rather than I actually wanted the game (and I ended up being disappointed - even the graphics aren't that impressive for most of them). RDR2 is really the first game which I feel really shows what XB1X is capable of. But, as much as I really enjoyed RDR2, I don't think it is a game that I will re-play again from start. Maybe if they released a PC version later, I might consider playing it again.

BC - I did play Gears 2 and 3 through BC. It was more that I never played them before and after playing Gears 4 and 1 (Ultimate), I just wanted to complete the whole series. Unfortunately, just like the remastered Uncharted 1 to 3 on PS4 Pro, while I enjoyed the stories and set pieces, the graphics in general aren't impressive in today's standard. Overall, it wasn't that pleasant to play Gears 2 and 3 through BC (even via XB1X). Personally, I prefer not to play BC games.

I do have PS4 Pro and a gaming PC as well. I understand XB1X supports 4K and is well optimised considered it has a GPU equivalent of RX580, but in terms of PC equivalent, in 4K, it runs mostly medium to high level settings and targets 30fps. For a large number of games, I would rather 2K at higher framerate on PC.

It is a well designed console (compact and quiet), but games… really need more, especially first party titles. UHD blu-rays, yeah, you see a bit more details, but discs cost more and if the movies are @!#!@#, more details won't make the movies great. I generally don't watch a movie more than once, so spending money on UHD discs doesn't really make sense to me (I'd rather just buy the blu-ray ones).

          • @netsurfer: The hardware is no doubt good, if you can get it for this price. It just doesn't have content I want.

Red Dead is not my kind of game, but it will look more than acceptable on the Pro and I can always wait for PC if I really wanted to play it.

I played Gears 1 the remaster on PC. It really hasn't aged well unfortunately.

A lot of titles still run upscaled 4K on 1X. Most of the time it's better than Pro, but it's not night and day better.

In regards to lack of first party titles, MS has listened. They acquired like 7 studios last year. I'm just not sure they're the right ones. One of them was the Forza Horizon studio who was already making nothing but exclusive FH games, and will continue to do so. No real gain in that investment there. Another made We Happy Few. The less said about that the better. One makes State of Decay, no thanks. Ninja Theory is the big get. Their games won't sell gangbusters but are pretty decent quality. Same with Obsidian but their Pillars of Eternity series which is what they've been making recently work better as PC games than console.

I don't buy disc movies either. I watch them once. Rarely twice. Most UHD Blurays are upscaled, not mastered in 4K. Cheaper to just stream the movies.

I still want one if they are around this price. I just don't think I'd be using it much. Like a lot of gadgets I've bought as bargains but otherwise didn't use. I'm trying to break that habit.

Bought for $349.60 and now got refund for $387.50 .

They refunded me the voucher as well , lol

Plus the $20 in store voucher isnt too shabby

Better for them to just honour the purchase me thinks

P.s. just checked and it was just a straight refund and $20 store credit . I already gave negative feedback
I really think they do this to get people in their store as it has been a ghost town lately .
    Shit deal

    • where do i check for store credit?

    • check again, thats what I thought at first, but you have only been refunded the $349.60

  • I paid by gift card haven't received refund yet.

    • just recieved mine. Now have $300 worth of GC tied to my account

      • so you paid with GC and paypal?

        • I had some leftover credit from another gift card.

Almost feel bad for posting this, but mine just arrived. I'm in country Vic. There was no tracking, and it was shipped without an outer box - just some thin paper around the original box. One corner a bit munched, so hope it's all good.

You’re lucky. I guess it’s good that at least some managed to snag a bargain

      • Yes, lucky as I know there were orders before mine that were cancelled. Not sure if it was luck of the draw or living near a store that had the stock and sent it out.
