    I bought the 681 for $650 before the 683 was coming out at a regular ebay sale. Dont even look at the RRP especially when you buy second hands on gumtree.

      Not at this stage, the reason we can do deals like this on Yamaha is because we stick with the one brand and buy bulk when we can. Denon make good receivers but unfortunately deal with a middle man importer in aus making them not as good bang for buck imo, cheers.

    I was about to buy an onkyo nr676, but am now tempted by the 685 instead. advantages to me of the onkyo is that it has Chromecast built in and supports 2 zones. Any compelling arguments in favor of the Yamaha?

          Hey guys, the RX-V685 has Yamaha's Musiccast system built in, similar to Chromecast but in my opinion much better, you can stream from Spotify, Tidal, Deezer & Internet Radio. It also has Bluetooth & AirPlay. Due to it's High Res DAC (32Bit, 192kHz), you can stream from Tidal in CD quality and above from sources on a NAS/HDD etc. There's also a control app which allows you to control volume, eq, input selections & dsp settings while streaming. The Yamaha also has a powered Zone 2 which you can set up as a second zone in the app and stream music to it independently of watching a movie in 5.1 in Zone 1. Hope that helps, I think the Yamaha is a great buy. We also never have issues with them but in case you do, there's a 2 year warranty - James

            @James90: Thanks James, the whole zones setup with the various manufacturers is confusing. My understanding was that with the Yamaha you can output to 2 zones, but only fron a single source, whereas the onkyo can input from different sources to each zone (but the second one must be analog). Not correct?
            I also need to be to change volume independently and easily on each zone and was also told this is more fiddly on the Yamaha?

              @slow: Hi @slow. I have a 10 year old Yamaha RX-V671 and the two zones are great and do not have the problems you mention… I think you've been misinformed.
              Changing sources and volumes is independent and easy. Love it.
              I'm in the market for a new AVR only because of 4K HDR support.

    I'm in the market to purchase a complete set home theater. My usage will be 50% music and 50% movies. My preference is floor standing speaker with a set up of 3.1.     I have a feeling this came as a bonus with some kind of Yamaha product as it was in a Yamaha shipping box 😎

    Also, the game pass and Live Gold 1 month/3 month free trials expired in June 2018 so don't have those
    Also beware, the delivery company just left the box on the front door step (I figured a highish value product would be taken to the post office, it may worry someone!)

      Yea received my Yamaha RX-V 685 today, i think the shipping times/courier used could be a lot better. Also, it is a bit unreasonable that the courier just dumps such an expensive high value item on the front door and take off. Very poor form.

In regards to the shipping times and couriers used, we do do our best with a small team so that we can keep overheads down and give you guys awesome prices on gear - and in most cases, ship it to you for free.       Thanks for the feedback, yes that's correct, however we split up all our packs so our customers dont have to buy "X" pack to receive "Y" item, we find most people want to customise what they want. That's unfortunate the live pass trials have expired - good thing we never mentioned them being included. Sorry to hear about the courier company leaving your item, we never select "authority to leave" so they should not be leaving them without a signature. Could you PM with your order number so we can speak to the courier company?

    Hi James, 2 questions on the RX V685.
    - Can I use 5.1.2 with the rears as the wireless MusicCast 20's? - I currently have wired ceiling speakers as rears, but was going to use them as Atmos speakers and run MusicCast 20's as Rears.
    - If I didn't do the Atmos route above, and used those channels for a Zone 2, could I have HDMI inputs playing on Zone 2 (and only Zone 2). I know some Denon AVR's only allow Analog signals through Zone 2. I have kitchen ceiling speakers that I would occasionally want to have on as Zone 2 whilst watching the TV, but with the Zone 1 lounge turned off? (keep sound localised to the kitchen whilst kids are sleeping rather than blasting the 5.1 to reach the kitchen)

      Hi, yes I believe you can do all of this with the 685.

      The Atmos config with wireless rears - yes it can do that.

      For that zone 2 setup I think you would just put it in party mode, mute the main zone and just turn the volume up on zone 2 :)

    Is it worth replacing my old RX-V465 with the HTR-3071, or should I save up and wait to buy another RX-Vnnn? I only need 5.1 but I would like 4K and the on screen display. I'd also like two HDMI outputs but could live without (tv & projector - currently using a separate switch, but would be nice if it was integrated)…. from an audio quality perspective is there much difference between my old receiver and the HTR-3071, and the HTR-3071 and current RXV receivers that have two HDMI out ports?

      Ah. Ignore this - I worked out that I will need to downscale the 4K to my old (1080p) projector, so will need to read the spec but doubt many receivers will do that so better off with a dedicated external splitter that can take the signal from the receiver output and send as is to the 4K tv but scale it down to the projector.
