How to Take Advantage of Cheap China International Postage Rates to Aus

Hi,

Does anyone know information about why the postage costs are so cheap from China -> Aus, yet they are so expensive the other way round?

Does anyone know any website/courier company or booking service that can allow us to book items for collection in China, then send to Aus cheap?

It is cheaper to send some items from China to Aus, then Aus to Aus

    The Universal Postal Union is why since it sets the rates. While it has been good for consumers it wreaks havoc with the postal companies.

  • Also important to point out that 'free shipping' from China is very rarely free. Out of the two which one do you think will be more popular?

    $7 Item
    $3 Shipping

    $10 Item
    $0 Shipping

    The latter is almost always the most popular as it gives people the sense that they're not paying for shipping. Zapals being an example of a store that almost never includes shipping and gives you the initial sense of them being cheap. Though they usually end up costing more once you factor in the cost of shipping.

    Then there are the shipping agreements in place like Shadowsfury mentioned. Another is the subsidised express postage through the Auspost China agreement which allows sellers to ship through couriers like Dpex and later Auspost Express. Stores like Banggood and Gearbest for example use this as their 'AU Priority Line'.

  • Isnt the main reason because it costs less for China post to ship stuff to Aus than Aus Post to ship stuff in Australia? You know, different wage rates and all?

    Hi,Does anyone know information about why the postage costs are so cheap from China -> Aus,

    They bought our northern port on a 99 year lease.

  • Shadowsfury was on the money and it depends a lot on which countries are receiving and which countries are sending. China is in category 3, whereas Australia is in category 1, so what we get to charge back to China for delivering the mail internally is small in comparison.

    This article, while US centric, provides a lot more context;

  • It's because China subsides the shipping cost for busineeses.

    If you're not a business it is expensive to post items.
