This year's theme for SID is centred around "…four, critical skills. We call these skills the 4Rs: Respect, Responsibility, Reasoning and Resilience…".

Nothing really there about Antivirus software?

    • You can make yourself and your family more resilient to online threats on the internet with a internet security and antivirus product providing comprehensive protection for your PC, Mac and other electronic devices

      • +2

The personal skill of resilience referred to, is expanded to be: "I get back up from tough situations" (as an example).

I don't have a problem with marketing AV software, and discounts are always welcome, but making a tenuous link to SID is, IMO, like marketing engine oil as a Valentines Day gift.

      • I suspect resilient isn't the word you're looking for.

Backups make you more resilient to online threats, i would hope AV would defend against them in the first place.

But more importantly, pop in some pricing examples please.

  • Yeah really hard to recommend anything other than that built into windows, or if you really want to spend money, using ESET.

        Cheers! :D

    • Wasn't sure if you were serious. Would you use this?

      • +1

I was serious. More curious, really. And to your question, No. The whole reason I run Linux is so I don’t have to run virus software.

        • That's what I was thinking. Hahahaha! I use Ubuntu and Manjaro and Chrome OS at home. Haven't had to bother with an antivirus for years.

          • @BadGiraffe: I used Ubuntu for years, but didn’t like the direction they went with their interface, so I went over to Linux Mint running Mate and never looked back. The only thing I run windows for now is for one of my specialist printers, there are no Linux software/drivers for it and I couldn’t be arsed porting them over.

Pretty hard to get a virus if you don’t open every god damn email and link you get sent. And even if i do manage to pick up some linux virus, I can just reboot and its usually gone or i can go back to a clean image backup and just start again.

  • How is this much different from your last post 10 days ago?

no different, he just look for commission money

      • I get the feeling that if you asked about the 809Z Weeblator manifest method, they would have a deal for that too.

  • Kaspersky is still Free :P
