SanDisk SSD Plus 120GB/240GB $30/$49 C&C (Or + Delivery) @ MSY

610

Perhaps not a world-beating price … but not exactly shabby either.

Picked up a Sandisk SSD Plus 240GB today from MSY (Glenorchy Tasmania) and the webpage suggests that it's also available at this price in other states.

  • How this one compares to the recent Kingston posted? Not that it matters since I already bought 3*Kingston…

I have one bought 3 or 4 years ago. 240g and about $100 at that time. So far no issue.

      • Bought a SanDisk SSD which failed on me after only 5years of light usage. Also have some SanDisk USB stick which seem to not work as USB 3.0 anymore. Wondering how SanDisk is reliable now…

Yeah, i remember buying one of those super tiny Sandisk USB3.0 thumb drives but they always used to overheat and crash when put into a USB3.0 slot. Completely a waste of money given the price. I've literally stopped trusting some of their claims (such as lifetime warranty, which that TB came with).

Also, they conveniently 'forget' to publish TBW figures for this drives, which means they likely have low over-provisioning and are suitable only for low end, starter drives.

  • umart?

I would skip this and go for the SanDisk Ultra II, these have an average write speed of 242MB/s compared to the Ultra II which does 405MB/s and is only $58 at umart for the 240GB version… might be cheaper elsewhere..

I've used these Plus versions about a few dozen times. Always fast, no dead ones as yet.

By comparison, WD Green are DOGS— soooooo sloooooow. Kingston ruined my trust a while back- giving reviewers one drive to test, then deliberately swapping to much slower device to retail.

Crucial are a respected brand, have only used one & it's still going after a couple of years.

Any drive is good vs. HDD. These Sandisk Pro's are good drives.

    Imho

Ummm I'm not entirely sure that's true. WD actually own Sandisk, and they are the same product just rebadged. The WD Green is pretty much the SSD Plus - both are DRAMless, both use the same controller (Silicon Motion SM2256S), and both use Sandisk TLC NAND. There will be subtle differences, and different firware, but they might as well be the same.

      More info here.

Also, Sandisk did the same thing as Kingston. The early SSD Plus used MLC, and all the initial reviews came with that.. but they quietly changed from MLC to TLC, changed controllers to cheaper versions etc.

  • I picked up the 1Tb version of this in a Black Friday sale. It's fine. It came packaged in a plastic bubble on cardboard, like from a supermarket rack, which I guess suggests where the SSD retail market is going!

I have a Crucial MX500 in another machine and I can't really tell the difference because both machines went from no SSD to having an SSD. The difference between each SSD is minimal in an older machine. It means more in a new build.

  • They also have the Samsung 860 EVO 1TB for $199 which isn't as cheap as the EBay sale but may suit someone wanting to just pick one up from their local store (although out of stock in SA & WA).

Picked this up for $45 the other day, seems to be a fairly good deal as well

    • Kingston are often under $40 from ebay. I think the cheapest so far was about $34.

  • Anyone got any deals for a 500gb one?

  • 89$ from cetrecom free shipping
