Seiko Prospex Solar SNE497P Steel Divers Watch $399 Delivered @ Starbuy

50

A highlight from StarBuy StarDeal today. Usually $499 from StarBuy, but it has been previously out of stock in recent time. I have recently picked up an SNE498 Golden Tuna, so will be sitting this one out. Although the case is 46.7mm, the lug to lug is quite short so it's a very nice fit on the wrist.

Great photos of this SNE series here at Yeoman Seiko and of the SNE497 from this Watch Patrol listing

where's watchnerd when u need one?

    • The three biggest watch guys, WatchNerd, MathNerd and PJC have all been permanently banned.

      • Why? Anyone know…I always found their posts to be great even though I'm not a collector per se. Edit see below…If this is the true story it doesn't seem the punishment is proportional to the offense. Any Mods care to elaborate?

        • Any Mods care to elaborate?

I have asked and have been denied. They do not discuss bannings with other users. No point asking. I discussed this with a few mods and some of the admins all the way up including Neil.

This was the latest discussion I had in open channel with Neil.

I have been in contact via proxy with some of these guys, post banning, but even if they were allowed back, I don’t even know if some of them would want to come back, which is a shame.

@pegaxs: It seems that the accumulation of minor infractions get you enough points to get a perma ban.

These ex-members posted so many deals and have been members for so long that anyone with any sort of quirky character inevitably will be banned.

Imagine if you only got 12 demerit points on your truck license but you never got any back - I don't imagine there would be any professional drivers left on the road.

@iratepirate: Pretty much. It seems to be that way. We have other, way more abusive and trolling users here that fly under the radar, but I guess if you’re a prominent figure here, you do come under more scrutiny and possibly held to a higher standard.

Neil did mention that they can appeal their ban, and all things taken into consideration, the ban may be overturned.

At the end of the day, it is a private website that the owner and their representatives are free to let who they want in and remove anyone they don’t want. We don’t all have to like what they do or how they do it, but we have to respect that it’s their site, so it’s their choice.

"Thanks for your 20th comment on here, so do you mean to say that the Urban Gentry and all the members on the Watchuseek modding thread are wrong?
Also as expected you never said if you have owned one."

          This is the comment…

          • @nocure: That seems pretty innocuous. He must have pissed off the wrong guy.

        • I see! he is in the 'penalty box'. That may mean that he comes back after sometime right? It surely isn't a permanent ban…?

          • @polarq: Well he did love his Invicta watches i guess.. lol very cheap Automatics i gotta admit but yeh …. will probably buy one as a beater …

          • +7

@polarq: No date of return, so yeah permanent. I hope this gets reviewed as he was a valuable member of our community.

            • @nocure: It seems that PJC (another fine lad) has also joined WatchNerd in the penalty box!

            • +1

@nocure: Hhhmmm… Yes I have bought two watches from his deals before and do remember him as one of the regular uploaders here. Hopefully, he gets back. :/

          WTF!
Watchnerd with 372 posts vs Hungryrussian with 0 posts.
you telling me a vet got trolled, took the bait, and got binned?
so… we (ozb community) end up getting punished?!
          that ain't right

          • @inamberclad: the problem is watchnerd is always bragging how many post he made and making fun of people who is not posting.

            • +1

              @HolyCr4p: well that ain't nice!
but, 372 posts (assume all but one are dud deals) vs 0 posts. it's only ever good to see a 0 after the dollar sign
              grr… oh well :/

              • +1

@inamberclad: see below… some other poster said if he didnt like someone said something bad on his post , he always bring his buddy (pjc) to attack

        • +1

Wow! So of all the watches, an Invicta killed off WatchNerd… 😕

          • @TechAddict: oh the irony!
well, i can still sleep at night, watch/maths-nerd helped when i bought a citizen, and that won't kill me!

    • Yes i would like to know too about the incident

      • +2

        the incident was
hungryrussian said this is crap watch, watchnerd could not take it and made an fun on how many hungryrussian posted.
After that watchnerd called his buddy pjc to attack the hungryrussian.
As other people (extremecable) mentioned watchnerd is always bringing his buddy (pjc) to attack other people if others don't like his post.
        That is the story

What sort of watch is this?

    • ask grandpa … :P he'll explain

    • Renewable source of energy: Solar

      • My watch is powered by Eneloops.

        • I'd expect that to be quite monstrous in size to take those batteries.

    • it is a normal watch :P

Surprised this doesn't have more ups. These are very well regarded for their price and specs. Very popular on WatchUSeek. It does wear smaller than the specs suggest because of the very short lugs. This is a good price with Aussie warranty. I prefer the black and gold 'fools gold' version myself.

The SNE499 is just $349 which is an exceptional price.

    • Great find. Added to the post. This version has a slightly different bezel lume than the dial which looks absolutely mint.
