Original PASSIONATE 20% off Selected stores on eBay Deal Post

Finally pulled the trigger on this one after posting several deals on the original X34 in the past.

Still kicking myself for not getting the old model for around $850 when they were on their way out.
Prime difference between the X34 and X34P is that the X34P is 100hz out of the box and can OC to 120HZ (On most units)

Same price at shopping express clearance - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Acer-Predator-UWQHD-X34P-34-LED-…

For some reason Futu has a second listing thats $50 more… https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Acer-Predator-X34P-34-UWQHD-LED-…

I sent them a message to confirm why this is.

Cheers

Fantastic monitor. Dropped some cash on the X34 a few months back, and no regrets here; most games now support ultrawide and once you go ultrawide, it really is hard to go back. One thing I might add though, if your desk is fairly shallow beware, the monitor + stand take up a lot of room on the desk.

That's where a monitor arm comes in handy. I got this one for my X34P, works great!

      • +1

I bought exactly that arm! Had to drill a hole in my desk to fit it… but it was definitely worthwhile.

      • That's a damn good monitor arm.

I got a $45 arm for my X34 and regret it.
The neck part, near the vesa plate that allows for up/down angle tilt, is too fragile on mine for the weight of the monitor. It still works but I'm worried whether it might eventually fail. The rest of the arm and the clamp is fine, just the neck…

Advice for screwing on the vesa backplate - I placed my monitor face down on my folded up bed quilt to provide even support for the curved screen.

  • So can nvidia cards now ustilise these freesync monitors?
Edit: oops just noticed this one is GSync

    • The freesync alternative is probably 1/3 of the price…

    • Only 1xxx series onwards, but this one is a gsync anyway.

Three of these will do me…. Edit: time to buy a bigger desk then. Edit: need a bigger room.

and I need a bigger wallet

      • oh my, forgot about that!

    X34P has better color reproduction.

    • Really, a few reviews I have seen actually say the opposite - https://www.techspot.com/review/1560-acer-predator-x34p-moni…

Stating that the X34 is better calibrated out of box.

I am not huge on the detailed colour settings - but this is what I've heard.

      • Just use calibration settings that are available online to end up with a better colour screen with a faster refresh and tighter screen curve.

I have one of these, thoroughly recommend, amazing monitor for gaming and working.

  • Now that Nvidia support freesync monitors, is there any good reasons to buy this over cheaper freesync monitors, eg. the Philips 349P7FEBUB (freesync range 40-102hz) is $850 and also there's a cashback promotion that bring it down to $750; or the kogan 34” 3440x1440 100hz freesync $600… Acer QC isn't exactly great so you gotta pray for a good panel.

Also if you ever switch to AMD, then you can still keeping using a freesync monitor.

They're all VA. This is IPS. The only comparable Freesync IPS is the Acer XR342CKP and the cheapest on staticice is $1099. Though I'd take it over the X34P simply because of the gamer branding.

Also the Gsync working on Freesync isn't perfect. Experience can vary on monitor to montior and game to game. Have had reports of Gsync working fine on a freesync monitor, then on a particular game they get blur effects and visble distortion such as lines.

  • Purchased the old one about 3 years ago and it's an amazing monitor!

    • mines just had its 2nd birthday. its awesome monitor. gives an advantage in FPS games.

  • Thanks OP I purchased this. I've been sitting on the fence waiting for a deal for a while.

Currently the only other options are the Dell or the ASUS ROG. There is an LG @144hz with HDR, it's freesync but that isn't released in oz yet, probably 1500-1600AUD.

    • Judging by US prices, that LG would be 2200+RRP. The 38" Ultrawide is cheaper in the US and has a RRP of 2200 here.

      • What do you mean? You can currently import the 34GK950F for around ~$2,000, so not sure why you would suspect it to be priced higher if/when it gets released locally.

        • "Australia Tax". Things are usually priced higher when available locally.

Using the 38 UW as an approximation because it's the closest priced monitor I could find. The 38UC99 is currently USD1099 on the US LG site and AUD2199 on the Aus LG site. 34GK950F is USD1199.

          • @TheContact: Yeah the 34GK950F for USD1199 would be the other option I would consider. Good monitor, but the X34P is good value and available now.

  • should i get this or the asus pg279Q?
    both around the same price

play a lot of fps like overwatch and mmorpg wow.

Depends how much money you want to save, and how important ultrawide is to you. I've owned both types of monitors (165hz 27 / 100hz 34). They're both excellent. The only thing left to decide is what you want out of them.

      • If you had to pick one which one would you pick and why?

    • If you want a fairly constant 144fps on high/ultra settings, and have a 1080Ti minimum, go pg279q.

If you want ultra wide FOV and the convenience of "two monitors" in a single panel for other workloads go ultrawide. Even a 1080Ti will struggle to keep this at a constant 100/120 on high/ultra so keep that in mind.

Both are excellent and you won't be disappointed with either.

  • Is this better than the 34" ASUS PG348Q ROG SWIFT?
I feel the asus hasnt had an update in a long time.

    • It will be, the X34P has 100hz standard that can go up to 120hz.
The ASUS does not have the 100hz guaranteed as there are reports it can be flakey at 100hz - which is its max.

  • Got this from HN in their last sale. Have been having some issues with it as in when I leave it on overclock all day, if I play a game after say 4 hours of idle screen time the screen starts blinking in game. This is not major though as all I have to do is restart the computer and it's fine. Or I switch on OC only before playing a game and switch it off after. I think it's a software problem as my colleague with an Asus has the same issue. Or Nvidia drivers. Issue started after 2 weeks of owning it. Acer support or HN had no idea what's happening.

But overall the best monitor I have ever owned, whether for play or work. Those excel spreadsheets look endless in this monitor.

  • Damn just missed out

  • Sold out. Looks like shopping express has price jacked slightly up to $1389 now before discount

  • Would have grabbed one but price have been jacked slightly. Is it worth grabbing for the $1,111 or waiting for another sale to comeby?

    • +1

I would wait because you will soon be able to use G-sync on Free-sync monitors (which are alot cheaper):

      https://www.extremetech.com/gaming/283261-nvidia-admits-defe…

Freesync monitors will become popular and G-sync monitors will HAVE to come down in price to remain competitive.

      • You can already do that. But experience varies from monitor to monitor and game to game

      • Yeah this does make sense. Lets see, will wait for a bit more and see but the original price here wasnt bad.
