    Malaysian Airlines. Lol.

    • Well, technically "Malaysia Airlines" but anyway. Flown on them twice recently, and the service was impeccable. And the plane was half empty!

      • -2

And the plane was half empty!

        No wonder.

      • Not questioning the service, I used to fly MAS almost weekly, and the service was delightful.
I am just not willing to get back on a MAS flight until they determine the cause of the crash.

In the meantime I'll stick to airlines without fatalities in the modern jet era.

      • Well, technically I was referring to "Malaysian Airlines" or "Malaysian Airline System (MAS)", as it was known for 46 years, and more specifically in reference to Malaysian Airlines Flight 370.
(The flight that went missing in 2014, prior to the rebranding of the airline to Malaysia Airlines.)

Fun fact, the airlines call sign is still "Malaysian".

  • +1

    No thanks.

  • Came expecting comments about disappearing planes etc.
People suddenly turn into Rainman when Malaysia Airlines is concerned. QANTAS!
Flown them a couple times since the disasters. Never had a problem - would definitely use them again.

Flown them a couple times since the disasters. Never had a problem

Hey everyone, look this guy didn't die - so its all ok

    • +1

Yep, I have flown with them several times in recent years and will continue to do so.

If you can get a flight on their A350 for a good price, then it's a no brainer. Such a magnificent aircraft…

      • -3

I swear you must work for them, your comments are truly ridiculous. Are you in love?

        • +2

And do you work for a competitor? Why such extreme negativity?

Have you even flown with Malaysia Airlines personally or are you just commenting based on what you read online?

  • -8

I hope this airline closes down before hurting/killing any more people. Apart from missing & blowing up planes, major complaints are extremely bad customer service (over 70% reviews are rating them as bad airline-link below) and inability to contact for changes or refund after payments have been made or flight changes.
    https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/malaysia-airlines
I mean they could have tried to find out what happened to that missing flight, but no, let's not cooperate with the investigators, let's hide, cover up & make up shit, and after over 50 months of investigation the fancy 1500 page report concludes that the flight was crashed. That gives real closures to the families of the deceased customers.
Negging this deal in hope of Ozbargainers try to find out why there is a neg on the deal & make informed decision.

Wow thanks dan0909, that's great insight, super helpful. I'm glad we have keyboard investigators like you making a real difference in our world.

      Thanks OP.

        Imagine defending a corporate entity

        • Where did I defend a corporate entity?

If only someone would notify the governments of all the citizens on board of these damning revelations of Ozbargainer dan0909. Only then may Australia, UK, US, Canada and China be able to stand up to the might of Malaysia.

    • Tell us more about your 'personal' experiences with Malaysia.

They're your average full service airline. I happily fly them when the price is right.

      • -4

Here's our experience. A nut was missing from the base of the seat next to us. and that seat made tick tick noise all flight long, wife pressed call attendant button twice as the baby needed warm water to mix with the formula, 1st time they simply switched it off and second time the lady said she will come back but didn't. ended up walking to the food prep area where they were just chatting. On the airport there was no express line for parents & only 2 customs counters open for 2 flights that had just landed, took 25 minutes just to…………………blah blah blah. fingers tired..long story short -Never again.

        • As someone born in Malaysia, I would agree with you that Malaysian is fairly rubbish for a full service airline.

      • +2

I've flown a few times with them on the their A330 in economy and once in the A350 in economy. The A330s are dated but still very comfortable and much better than the dog of a A332 that Qantas was flying throughout SEA (I think the last of these cruddy planes are in for a refurb now though). Their A350 on the other hand is a magnificent plane and much better than the 787 CrapLiners other airlines (including Qantas) are putting into their fleets. My next flight with them will be in business class on their A350 (thanks ANZ for the QFF points ) and that looks like a very decent product on their A350…

As for service on Malaysia Airlines, they are at the bottom end of full service airlines based on my experiences in economy. That said their hostesses have always been friendly, just don't expect them to always be at your beck and call between meal services and they are pretty stinghy with the grog…

All that said, I'd happily fly them if they are cheaper than Qantas and Singapore Airlines.

  • +4

Why not try them, I mean lightning never strikes the same place twice right? Oh wait.

  • +1

Destructive comments aside, did anyone have any interesting finds on combination destination / dates?

Cheapest I could find so far was MEL-KUL return. Is it just 20% off base fare?

    • +1

Destructive ….. nah!, just plain ignorant.

Is there a bandwagon the OzB kiddies won't jump aboard?

    • +1

Destructive to a corporate entity? Why the hell do you care unless you're hired by them.

There were 2 great faults that cost many people their lives. Why defend them? Let people hate

      • +3

I’m only here to check out deals and trying to make use of this 20% off deal. As a Malaysian I really only have limited choices to fly to KL (Airasia in Avalon, substandard Malaysia airlines or longer flights with Jetstar or Qantas…). I have no interest to defend MAS but merely looking for constructive comments that can help me find a cheaper way to fly home :)

      • Just curious, but are you counting being shot down by a missile as one of the great faults?

        • +1

Flying in a known dangerous area

          • @belongsinforums: From wiki (which was easy enough to find):

Some airlines started to avoid eastern Ukrainian airspace in early March 2014 due to safety concerns.[47][48] In April, the International Civil Aviation Organization warned governments that there was a risk to commercial passenger flights over south-eastern Ukraine.[7]:217 The American Federal Aviation Administration issued restrictions on flights over Crimea, to the south of MH17's route, and advised airlines flying over some other parts of Ukraine to "exercise extreme caution". This warning did not include the MH17 crash region.[49][50] 37 airlines continued overflying eastern Ukraine and about 900 flights crossed the Donetsk region in the seven days before the Boeing 777 was shot down.[51]

            https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malaysia_Airlines_Flight_17#Ba…

            • @jackspratt: Yet other airlines redirected flights. Nice omission

              • +2

@belongsinforums: It is interesting how people do not blame the party who fired the missile but instead the one who is being hit

It’s like me parking my car on the street and being hit by a reckless driver is actually my mistake. Because I could have redirected my dinner appointment to another suburb, or I could have redirected my car to a Carpark instead.

Forget about the reckless driver, because they are reckless anyway and there is nothing we can do about them so just let them be reckless (?)

Nice omission. But hey MAS pilots love their family too…

                • @b0b0: why does it have to be 100% blame on one party?

                • @b0b0: Not sure about your analogy. Is the street you are parking on in or close to an area where there have been reports of reckless drivers?

What if there was a hail warning one street to the south of where you were parked?
Would you leave your car where it was?

I'm pretty sure that everyone is blaming the person(s) that fired the missile. In fact there is a class action suit against Putin.
That aside, the opinion being expressed above is that many other airlines decided to avoid the area altogether given the potential danger. MAS (and other airlines) made the decision not to. So knowing that, their trust in the airline is eroded. Yes, hindsight is 20-20, but some people may feel safer flying with an airline that has had no fatalities, such as Qantas, Etihad, Emirates, Qatar, or Virgin.

@Tiggrrrrr: Thank you for your 2 cents and I agree with you.

I was hoping more people jump on and share what good date combinations they can find but most comments seem to be pouring absolute negativity, and none has been constructive for a search for flight to KL

If I’m searching for a flight for a vacation (not in KL) I will not pick MAS. I have friend’s friend passed away in this incident, there was already enough hatred in the community and we just wish to move on.

As a Malaysian I have no interest to defend MAS. In fact because of these incidents and bad reputation MAS may lower their price further, which in turn may be a good thing for many of us who needs to fly MEL-KUL

                    • @b0b0: Does Malindo operate from Melbourne? Had some family travel on that (KL to Perth) and they said it wasn't too bad.

However most my relatives fly out of Singapore these days as it is easier from JB.

                      • @Tiggrrrrr: Thank you! Malindo is good but they don’t have flights everyday I remember. I haven’t had lots of luck with finding Malindo’s availability but I will take a closer look

                        • @b0b0: Just had a look. Seems like no direct flights to KL. 1hr layover in Bali…

Oh well, playing the odds, there hasn't been any issues with MAS on flights to/from Australia.

              • @belongsinforums: Did you miss the 1st sentence from the wiki quote above?

I'll let you know when the next Specsavers bargain comes along.

    • +1
