    • This is a standard AML (Anti Money Laundering Practice) requirement - you'd need to do the same for opening a bank account online or even an online betting account. They would get in big trouble if they didn't do this.

      • I never had to upload my photo with banks. Bank does online verification only and you don't even have to upload your ID.

        • Did you already have an account? if you're already an existing customer they won't need it, but if you were a new customer opening an account with a financial institution in Australia without them sighting enough ID to meet the 100 point requirement then that is dodgy AF. I imagine the department of home affairs would be very interested in that.

          • @Cunning Linguist: It's not dodgy. There are plenty of deals on Ozbargains that pay $50 for opening bank accounts. The bank accounts are opened through online verification, just put in ID and you're verified. CBA, Westpac, ANZ, NAB, ING, and a lot of niche banks does it. Gone are the old days where to have to visit the branch to verify your ID, unless you encounter an issue, then you have to visit in branch or at post office.

    • It’s governmen regulation amongst other reasons why you need to provide ID. Same as you going to a bank and opening an account.

Btc and ETH will probably be ok long term.
    ..

I got scammed in a lot of alts that have died. It's not cryptos fault, it's human greed and wanton speculation.

    • Thanks nvox.

Just signed up for an account, but it says I need to verify my details first.
I must say, this is the lengthiest verification process I have ever done.

Also haven't received my bitcoin after my initial deposit…

  • Applied to join a while ago. Jumped through the hoops with a mugshot and they never replied to the application…

    • You don’t need the mugshot to join (anymore). Just a scan of your license or passport

  • Im so behind the times

  • Does it need TFN for registration?

    • No you don’t need a TFN

  • instant verification (with upload of license) - jumped on the buying dogecoin bandwagon today - was able to buy straight away

  • So I have to give my accountant something about the free crypto… Does anyone have a document or link to the specific offer?
