  • Is that you waiting for a tram roll-start?

  • Lol. The lady in the photo isn’t wearing a helmet, so you can just leave them on the bike?

The lady in the photo isn’t riding a bike.

    • How old is she?

    • Lol. The lady in the photo isn’t wearing a helmet, so you can just leave them on the bike?

No, it seems you just throw helmet in nearby gutters and bushes. I Noticed this in Sydney yesterday.
I'm sure they're cheap hemets (especially purchased in bulk) but means the next person who hires has no helmet also.
Would be good if these bike-share companies added something to ensure helmets are locked back in, when you finish your hire. All too often helmet and bike are seperated from each other.

All the weight of an electric bike, the manoeuvrability of a tow truck, the comfort of a school performance and the novelty of rocks.

OP can you add in the description $10 deposit will be withheld. This will make it clear . I had to go thru all the reading to find out this .

    • Is this one of those bike hire deals where it charges after first 30 minutes, so have to get off bike, lock it, then hire/unlock again, to keep getting free rides ?
I got caught before like this. I had 5 free rides (30 minutes each) so I figured I could stay on for 2 hours (4 of my 30 minutes slots) . Found out after being charged, about having to get off every 30 minutes for it to remain free, then started setting timer on phone for 25 minutes.

      • They have extended the ride time from 30 minutes to 45 minutes across the board.

This is for a weekly pass, so from their website (https://www.melbournebikeshare.com.au/pricing.html):

        • Your pass is valid for a 7-day period.
        • Unlimited 45 minute rides.
        • If your usage time has expired and you keep the bike for up to 60 minutes you will be charged an additional $2, or $7 up to 90 minutes. After 90 minutes every 30 mins will be an additional $10 charge.
        • $10 refundable deposit per bike.
        • Thanks. It would be good if something like this was added to post.

That 'unlimited' means 45 minutes per ride.

I found out the hard way (after being charged) . Would hate to think others might get caught out for say 5 hours over the 45minutes , and charged >$30 for ride they thought was free..

So to get a few hours (or 1 day) for free, we would need to keep locking then unlocking every 40 minutes.

I immediately deleted the app after I read the comment. I rather take the tram or WALK. Thanks guys.
