  • Can this be activated with a $2 Boost sim card?

    • it needs data to activate so if theres data on the card than i can't see why not

      • I assume once activated, you no longer need the SIM. Sounds straightforward enough. Thanks.

Hopefully someone is able to test this out, would be an absolute steal if it works

    • From 31 Jan 2018, All Telstra post-paid mobile, pre-paid mobile ($30+ active recharges) and mobile broadband customers are eligible

Looks like you need to recharge $30 first

      • Do I need keep a sim on the phone or just enough the first act?

    • $2 sim don’t come with data so doubt would work. Would like to be told otherwise. You can buy $10 starter pack from Aus post comes with 3gb which I’m sure would do the trick

I wonder if that works for Belong

    • i decided to try it as with boost the carrier on the phone shows as telstra. i'm unsure if boost is the same

      • +3

Doesn’t work with Aldi mobile even though it shows as telstra

        • Nor with Woolworths Mobile.

    • No success for me with Belong

  • Is it one sport only, or does it get you all of them?

    • all of them

A tip for those who don’t have Telstra but a friend/family does and they want the Live pass.

Turn off wifi and then hotspot off their phone.

It will the think you are with Telstra and away you go!

    • Really? That's brilliant if it works ;)

      • Did it last year and literally just before I commented.
Also works if you hot spot to an iPad.

    • Confirm that it works, I did it last year too with all the ipads around the house

    • Awesome, thanks

    • Can confirm this works! Thanks mate

I have an Android phone. I can confirm you can cast the phone screen via Chromecast too… Been doing it for years.

    • +1

I thought they disabled this last year?

      • +2

I've been streaming the AFL app all last season. You need to get the game streaming on your phone 1st, then swipe down and choose the native android cast option from the phone itself (The AFL app itself doesn't have the cast option within it like Netflix and the like have…) that's the trick I found that worked for me every time.

        • It's a bit hit and miss for me with the A-League app (casting from phone). Found it easier to just VPN into Japan and stream the games of YouTube which I can then cast from my PC.

        • Cool thanks

        • Do you know if this will work with the NRL App?

        • Ok, I'll give it a whirl. I'm sure I tried it March last year and couldn't get it to work. I'm a mad AFL fan so I succumbed to better judgment and went with Foxtel Now to get HD last year. Hate that company but I can't physically get to as many games these days.

I could only imagine just how shocking it looks on a TV. Use to use the Kodi AFL add on and my eyes use to bleed watching it.

When you can get Kayo Sports for $12.50 a month (if you split it with someone else) it’s a no brainer to get MUCH better quality.

Alright in a pinch though I guess.

      • +2

Not shocking is at SD quality. Looks fine on my 40" bedroom TV! 65" prob not. What do you expect as a freebie. I also have Kodi, that does look better when its a Foxtel game as it is in HD.

        • Nothing to do with the resolution, it’s the bitrate which is the issue. The live games are served up at a maximum of 1.6Mbps, whilst the replays are a bit better at 2.8Mbps. That’s still extremely low for a fast paced event.

          <setting id="LIVE_QUALITY" type="enum" label="10006" values="Lowest (300k/s)|Low (450k/s)|Medium (660k/s)|High (1Mb/s)|Highest (1.6Mb/s)" >

          <setting id="REPLAYQUALITY" type="enum" label="10009" values="270k/s - 320x180 (Lowest)|400k/s - 320x180|600k/s - 480x270|900k/s - 640x360|1.4Mb/s - 720x406|2.1Mb/s - 720x406|2.8Mb/s - 1280x720 (Highest)

Alternatively, if you can get access to a Telstra work phone or something you can create an account and sign in on any device. You don't get the data-less streaming but you get the live passes activated for yourself.

  • +2

The AFL plugin on Kodi is the best way to utilise this on the big screen.

  • But does the live pass only work while you have credit like previous?

    • afl is showing an expiry date of 31/1/20

  • I bought the boost sim, what else do I need to do now?

    • +1

activate it, donload the apps than open them. at one point it will ask you to login or check if your a telstra customer. disconnect from wifi and have it check. it should work now

      • Do I need recharge the sim?$5?

        • i don't know. i'm a boost custmer and it worked

  • +1

    F1 please!…

  • +1

Worked via my iPad Pro tethered to Boost Mobile. Ta

    • Once u activate it can you use any kind of data

  • Doesn't work for me. Boost on and Android. Click "I'm a Telstra customer", then click "login with my mobile" it spins a loading bar and then brings me back to the same screen without logging in.

    Am I missing something?

    • are you on wifi or cellular? it only worked on celluar for me. i'm also on an iphone

      • I'm using cellular and getting the exact same issue.

Edit: Specifically with the "My Football" app for A-League.

    • same for me do not work, make some kind of error at the end

  • Any link for the $2 SIM card?

  • Hurry, Harver Norman are having a clearance sale on $2 Boost sims, now reduced to $2, Nice one Jerry - https://www.harveynorman.com.au/phones-accessories-gps/phone…

Prolly I need a $30 plan cus brand new $2 sim do not work

    • -1

Relax max. They are dime-a-dozen $2 all day long at office works. Better to get $10 boost starter pack instead.

    • They're also $2 from Boost directly https://boost.com.au/shop/

  • Others work except afl app unable to link the live pass. Is it because the season hasn’t started?
    Keep saying service temporarily unavailable

    • it worked fine for me

      • It’s good now
It took overnight for my new account somehow to be able linked to the afl lice subscription

  • +1

    Great post! 2 questions:
    1) Do you need to continue to use Boost mobile once the live pass is activated?
    2) is the live pass linked to your mobile number? As in can I activate the live pass on a boost mobile then switch back to my current sim?

  • Not sure if I missed it or not, but has anyone confirmed that the $2 or even $10 sim works as yet?
For me even the $30 would be worth it if I could get the full years season pass.

Similar to a previous request, does this create an account using your mobile number or link to your Google account/Apple account. Just trying to figure out how to make continuous use with minimal fuss.

Have unlimited wifi so not fussed about data, just wondering if I need to phone active all the time or if I can then sign into the account on any device?

Awesome post OP, thanks for all the leg work others have already done, only 40 odd days until AFL and even less for NRL, so close!!

    • +1

i know with the AFL you can link it to your telstra account. you can than log onto your account on afl.com.au and watch on your PC

  • Boost $30 sim for $8. Order online up to end of 11/2/2019.

Useful way to get a sim with $30 credit if you want to access a free pass.

  • I have boost simcard but based in South Korea. Anyone of getting this to work (with excessive data fees) even though I am abroad?

  • Great post! Do we get the data-free streaming as well with this?

    • doubt it

  • The NRL app links on Telstra’s site appear to be incorrect (links to the Soccer app). Just search in your App Store for the right one, worked for me!

  • I have tried to do this several times and it doesn't work for me.

I called Boost and they confirmed that there is definitely no Data Free streaming of any NRL games via their service. The manager I spoke with confirmed that they are 'Boost' and not 'Telstra', although any communication they send you says that it comes from Telstra..

    Bummer !

  • Thanks OP got this to work by putting the sim in a 4G modem and downloading the App on my tablet.

  • I’m on Boost but Can’t seem to get it to work. Deleted old app. Reloaded new version. Followed instructions Re turning off wifi. Keep getting message “ service temporarily unavailable” etc etc
Any ideas to get it to work.

  • Got this to work easy, on boost

    • For afl..

      The quality was pretty avg
