HP Deskjet 2130 Printer $15 @ Officeworks

390

I was looking for a cheap printer for rare usage at home. Found this in Officeworks. They had plenty at Airport West store.

Edit: i would like to mention that i was interested in scanner more than printer and reviews say that its a great 1200 dpi scanner for the price. I have so many documents and receipts taking space in my drawers so i wanted to scan everything, esp receipts which fade with time or i lose them, to keep record of everything on my disk. I havent comfirmed but a couple of reviews said it can scan even without the ink.

  • how much is the toner?

Oh wait this doesn't have network or wifi support

      • +10

No network support and ink is expensive. Once the included ink is finished, use it as scanner or break the top glass and grow mint in it.

@[Deactivated]: If you grow Petunia, that will look great. A printer printing real flowers.

        • Doesn't the scanner refuse to work if there is no ink?

          • @bargaino: Many reported scanner will work with empty ink cartridges and one wrote that it works without cartridges ever been installed in the previous post.

          • +5

@bargaino: Bought this last week on the same deal, have never put the inks in and its scanned plenty of things perfectly.

I had to throw away a Canon printer because it refused to scan without ink present. Really environmentally responsible company Canon…

    Consumerism gone mad.

    • Thanks, this is very useful information.

    • Reading those comments it seems the ink for this printer is not very good value so keep that in mind if you plan to use the printer more than the initial cartridges.

If you are really after the best scanner for feeding documents and easily digitising them then I highly recommend the Doxie. There are different models but the Doxie Go with wifi is one of the best. It allows you to feed anything like receipts, pages, etc in and send resulting scans to your computer wirelessly. Not sure if you can buy in Aus but I bought mine through Amazon some time back (before they banned purchases from Aus).

    • In case you had not heard. The ban was lifted late last year. You do have to pay the Harvey Norman tax tho.

    • but that costs 20 times more and doesn’t do prints

      • True that's what a dedicated scanner is like unfort

        • "best scanner" without an automatic document feeder?

          • -1

@GregFiona: Hhey dude my comment is crap and I have no idea what I am talking about <—- there you go I fixed it for you

            • @swapsey: no need to get upset! you claim that the Doxie Go is the best scanner, I like that it's portable but that's all about it really.
If you have lots of documents to scan and you are happy to pay $200 there are plenty of other options out there, options that include an automatic feeder and that will make your life much easier

  • Can anyone recommend a printer to print pictures on coloured card. My budget is $200. Thanks

You can also try using an app like Camscanner for your receipts and documents. I've been using it for the last ~6 years and it's much more convenient than having a scanner at home.

    • or tiny scanner

Thats true. That is more than enough for receipts and other stuff. Actually i could have taken simple photos with mobile. Dont care about quality in case of receipts. But I started writing letters in 1985. Loved writing letters and having pen pals. Kept writing till around 2000 and then people stopped writing. I still have each and every letter along with envelop and i want to save them in good quality. I will also email the pdf's to those who have written those letters. Spending $15 is fine for that job.

      • Unfortunately letter writing has become a lost art.

        • Yes its a shame but what one can write about when everyone is talking to eachother every second day on video call, facebook, whatsapp or at least emails? But no doubt it was such a beautiful thing that we have lost.

    • Or Google Drive. Has an in-built scanner option. Works really well.

  • Went to lifeline @ Virginia (Brisbane) today and bought a laserprinter/fax for $10. Brother Mono Laser Fax Machine FAX-2840 -currently $268 on ebay. $299@officeworks. Came with a draw full of paper. Works awesomely

    • Any more left?

      • No. Person at counter said they had had 4 of them. Lucky last.

        • thanks for sharing

  • Just buy these instead of ink if you don't need to print much.

    • Doesn't ink dry if you don't use very often?

      • where we don't use it for a long, long time, we have to do the 'clean print head' function. That seems to do the job. Uses a bit of ink but trivial in the scheme of things especially if only printing very, very occasionally

        • What is long time? I read in some fotums that it might dry up even in a week.

  • Picked one up. Works well. Will be used for very light duty printing. For $15 no complaints. For those interested … The nice thing is they no longer have a power brick adapter. Just a fig-8 (included) 240V cable from device to 240V socket.

  • Is this the cheapest printer available at the moment?

    • Couldnt find anything cheaper. There was one canon ex display printer for $10 at jb hifi without ink. Other than that i couldnt find anything for this price.

  • Can anyone suggest similar printer with WIFI capability and no toner required for scanning? Thanks

  • They must be getting monkeys to build them now

  • Cheaper to buy multiple printers than to buy the ink cartridges separately, bit of a waste of resources though.

    • The starter cartridges don't have much ink in them. The manufacturers have cottoned on to that one.

  • Pricing shows at $28 now?

    • Yeah. Went to the shop in the mid-day, they confirmed the price change in the morning.

  • Which printer is the best economically for lots of colour printing?
