If you don't currently have an AMEX card and you want access to AMEX offers without having to pay annual fees, how is this a bad deal or even worth a neg?
It is free points which you would not have received prior to the deal. 12,500 VFF points is conservatively worth $125.
I'm starting to see this often in OzB comments (maybe it's always been there and I hadn't noticed). Attacks immediately become personal because someone didn't agree - typically with insinuation that the other person is stupid.
I think your point could be better emphasized with examples like nightelves' comment rather than guessing what I don't know.
It's a good bonus offer for THIS card. But not a good offer for Amex cards in general if you're a churner, agree with you there.
Agree given that once you apply you have to wait another 18 months for the next sign on bonus. Gone are the good ole days where there was no exclusion period for credit card sign on bonus.
Not sure why you got downvoted, considering now that AMEX has a 18 month lockout between sign on bonuses. 12.5k velocity points is a pathetic waste of a credit enquiry and the amex sign up bonus.

It is a no annual fee card. Amex has three from memory: Qantas, Virgin, and Essentials.
First things first, there is No bonus points for referee for this card. Only the lurking referers get bonus points.
Second, if you get this card as your first amex card, you lose an important opportunity to get bigger introductory bonuses, i.e. 80000 bonus points, etc.
Does not worth application unless points is not worth for you. Remember, you can always make up more than first year annual fee of the cards that have decent bonus. Then you need to either cancel or pay the fee for the subsequent years.
Where this card could come in handy is if you are thinking of ditching the Amex Explorer considering the annual fee and the forthcoming points devaluation but you still want to hold an Amex in your wallet to take advantage of Promotions.
12,500 VFF points is not even worth the enquiry to my credit file. Next…
